DMI VII - Team Vanilla

Any thoughts?

Spoiler :
Well the accidental trading for Masonry meant we couldn't bulb Nationalism from our Great Artist, so we had to slightly change our plans.

We would need to self research Nationalism and we decided to trade for Monotheism and Drama and bulb Theology with the Great Artist.

We then researched Liberalism, taking Military Tradition.

Gunpowder was our last tech required for Cossacks and the minute this was researched our production changed slightly.

Around this time, we noticed a member from another team snooping around our game.

Now, Ralph had gotten somewhat of a name in recent sucession games our team have played as a navy builder. Essentially, we would neglect the navy and every time Ralph's turn came around, he would whip out a nice looking navy for us to destroy before the cycle came around again. From the view of the map we had, it was obvious it was a ring-pangea type map, so navy wasn't going to play a big part, so Ralph took charge the turn after Gunpowder came in and concoted the following two armies.

The keener among you will notice that in the latest patch, Cossacks have been nerfed from strength 18 to 15. Our plan was to attack as follows.

In 1440AD, war was declared.

By 1500AD, we had achieved the following victories.

We did lose two cossacks though. Not happy.

The writeup looks good, as usual.

As for next victim, well its obviously Louis or Wshington or both if we can handle the load. I would say Washington then Kublai then Izzy and if we can support a second front then Louis.
I agree with Washington next. But I'm concerned about leaving HC alone for too long. My guess is a second front is probably going to be in order.

Yeah sorry didnt realise I was up, would have said sooner. My missus Brother is off to live in Oz in a few weeks so she wants us to spend time with him this weekend. Yes Oz, another Pommie draining the dollars from the Aussie economy!!

Ohboyohboyohboy...

"Bang bang bang, die suckers! Hahahaaa..."

Got it. Finally get to play with the Cossacks. Rifles are a slight problem (especially with the nerfing) but shouldn't cause too many headaches. I'll work on ridding us of Washy and then Kublai and forming up army #2 for Louis.

stuge, picture may tell more than 1000 words but a save can tell even more.

lurker's comment: Ozzy, the game is attached at the final screenie.
Oh! And nice idea, btw! :D

Looking good and nice tasty Cossack work Stuge if ever I saw it :goodjob:

Ralph

Rifles aren't really a problem with our production. Newly built, combat 1/pinch cossacks soften them up nicely and then the vets have no problems mopping them up.

Also, captured workers make good scouts/baits. Send them near the target city and the AI will usually take them back. Rifles are much easier to kill on flatland or hills than in cities with +60% defence. I used this to good effect after capturing New York.

We should add cannons to the western army. Better to focus on taking Kublai out first, though.

A few MM suggestions.

Places like Heliopolis that desperately need a border pop should build culture for a few turns to get it rather than waiting for a Theater et al.

Don't forget that we have unhooked seafood resources at Yekat and Rostov.

But looking good, worth scouting Louis land as he is doing well tech wise and will probably be the toughest nut to crack but just applying overwhelming force will do it.

When do we switch to Razing rather than keeping cities mode may be worth debating.. I haven't counted tiles but if we wipe out America Khan and Spain do we get domination without having to tackle Louis and HC? That would involve using Galleons to get our Army across the water to finish Isabella..But you know how much I like building ships!!

Ralph

I survey the great Russian empire and I like what I see, except the buggy BUG python exception error I get when I load up the game  .

The best way to deal with the rifles is probably to have withdrawing cossacks followed by gunpowder promoted cossacks.

I switch a few cities to culture for border pops as per Ralph's suggestion. Louis is very backwards in tech, so we should be looking at hitting him as well as Kublai, so I start sending cossacks his way

Our finest cossack is sacrificed at the gates of Boston but his was the only loss.

We might consider West Point somewhere as well.

This makes me laugh.

Kublai doesn't seem to have rifles yet.

Louis seems to be an idiot.

Washington's last stand costs 2 cossacks. The RNGod was with me, as I has one withdraw and 2 wins at <50%.

And just like that Washington is dead.

Yep, he is an idiot.

I had 7 cossacks in Seattle, waiting to deal with Washington before declaring on Louis as well as many more on the way, so we will be fine. Getting those defenders out of his cities will help us as well.

Actually, Louis is pretty serious. If he brought both stacks to play at the start we'd have lost Seattle.

A third stack appears as well.

His first stack is dead and most of the second.

I stopped here as we need to make a decision about war with Mongolia.

Here are the fully healed cossacks in place (they can move straight away if required).

Should we declare? I think so. He may be close to Rifling.

Louis is bringing some serious heat to Seattle. We lost a couple of cossacks to one mass attack. The woodsman promoted pikes are difficult to root out (who says the AI is dumb). We should be all right but will be a while before we can go on the offensive.

We are currently at 30% land. We can actually create a bridge between us and Izzy through Louis, so I imagine if we take down Louis and Kublai and Izzy we will win.

I'm not sure whether we need to do a round of whipping to generate a new batch of cossacks. West Point as well (is 16 turns in Moscow) for 10xp cossacks?

I would prefer to achieve domination purely through enemy acquisition but we can send out a few settlers to speed this along if we want.

We are 6 turns off Steel, when we can throw some cannons into the mix.

Ralph is UP!

Declare on Mongolia now. Cossacks vs. longbows is awfully funny.

I suggest withdrawing from Seattle, allowing Louis' stacks to occupy it. They'll be much easier to wipe out on the flatlands.

Ok this is my got it and I would also advocate taking the Battle straight to Kublai while we have a tech advantage.

Stuge's sneaky plan for Seattle looks nice and will probably be implemented....

Ralph

A brief report (played 10 turns) but things are progressing. Turns are certainly quite time consuming now.

Before I got all bloodthirsty did a wee deal with HC and remembered to ask our friend Khan for some cash and he kindly gave me 160 Gold at which point we naturally declared
HCDEAL.jpg

Now on the French front Louis was suiciding units at such a rate that I basically hunkered down in the city collecting experience. And we finally broke out in 1680 and moved onwards to capture Chartres in 1700 gaining our foothold in French territory.

On the Khan front although technologically weaker he had a lot of troops and it was a long slow ground losing some Cossacks to CG2 Longbowmen on hills but by the end he was basically gassed out and having taken 4 of his cities it should be smoother sailing from now.

Especially as the next player gets to play with Cannons.

Tips
WW staring to bite so I have sprinkled in some theatres as the culture slider is very inefficient without them.

Khan still sneaks Knights past our cities so keep an eye on our lines he nearly caught me out occasionally.

I have tried to cancel most go to orders (basically sending Cannons to the front) but may have forgotten a few!!

It would be worth designating a couple of workers as Combat Engineers to road the last few tiles into France to speed our cannons.

Enjoy

Ralph

The SAVE

Aaah, I see now.

How's MLG3 going FB?

lurker's comment:
This will be my last threadjack, I promise!
Well, MLG3 is sitting on my HD, waiting for my return.
I even had to uninstall civ recently due to space issues. It reminds me to buy a new HD soon! :coffee:
This life of working 10/12/14 hours a day is time consuming, y'know!
At least I can still read the forums!
