DMI VII - Team Vanilla

Umm call me daft but I cant see a save Oz...

Ralph

Ok so off we go into the “Time of the Cossack”

Plan

  1. Confucianism – Theocracy
  2. Hand research Engineering
  3. Upgrade Horse Archers (who can be employed to take the two barb cities in our region whilst we build an Army of Cossacks.) The other will scout out Hatties cities so we have a feel for number of defenders in each.
  4. Some cities will use the Whip whereas places like our Capital have sufficient production that they are better off hand building our troops
  5. Also we have some non BFC forest which our workers can usefully chop (e.g 1 N ¾ W of the capital)

So kick off MMing cities slightly to emphasize :hammers: and take the Confucian switch (Religion first then civic due to upkeep costs)

Turn 1 1340 AD Decide we might want to Promote our Level Swordsmen to a Maceman and use him to Escort Cats for Hatties hill cities so rearrange troops a bit. Looks like Hattie is genuinely trying to take Vandal with X-Bow + cat, who knows maybe our Sword will sneak in…
Take Theocracy

Turn 2 1350 Not much going on..

Turn 3 1360 AD. First upgraded HA starts taking down Phoenician as with Cows , Wine + Grass Iron it’s a keeper.
Unfortunately Hattie only manages to upgrade Vandals Archers so we are still in wait and see mode.

Turn 4 2 pop Whips in Rostov and Yekat.
We capture Phoenician which comes with 2 workers.. Nice
phoenician.jpg

Turn 5 1380 AD Upgrading complete Engineering in 6
Khan makes peace with Louis followed next turn by Isabella

Turn 6/ 7 / 8.. Coffee & Cossacks

1440AD – Engineering and Armies built so time to Pause

We have 14 Cossacks ready to roll

2 ready Stacks

and 1 forming stack,

Rostov and Yekat can whip a couple more in 3 turns.. and they are now coming at a good rate to Pound the AI

The Save

Enjoy

They were nerfed in a Patch, 1.74 I think but it might have been 1.61

Whaaat? That's no fun...

We'll, I've got it, but with the way things are going right now in RL, it may be better for me to swap, unless you can wait until the weekend.

Oh wow! I forgot all about the Cossacks getting reduced to str 15 in the patch. :undecide: This would seem to negate the "compare the versions" idea of this game. Since we are basically playing with the BTS Cossacks, just without all the bells and whistles of BTS.

Oh well. But I'm pretty sure that we've gotten to Cossacks early enough that they should still pack quite a punch against our AI opponents. Do we still want to go for conquest or do we rethink the domination option? Either way, I think at a minimum we keep the Egyptian cities.

Conroe would be up next, so if he can play before the weekend (which starts in 5 hours 15 minutes for me) he gets first shot at the Cossacks.
Definitely won't be able to play in the next 5 hours. But then it is still Thursday. :p I might be able to play tomorrow. Definitely would not be able to play on the weekend, though. So, a tentative got it, but if I don't post tomorrow, then Kodii can have the Cossacks back. If that is OK with everyone ...

This sucks a spunk-flavored lollipop. What fun is there if we can't have the übermensch cossacks? A remotely fair fight is nothing compared to a total massacre. :mischief:

Well, as Ralph noted, everything is ready to go ...

The battle plan would be the one laid out by our fearless leader ...

Spoiler Oz's battle plan :

And indeed the first city to fall was El-Amarna. The Egyptian culture no longer bisects our borders.

and ...

then ...

Byblos was built upon a hill ... as a result, we lost our first Cossack in taking the city.

Hatty's Galley begins pillaging the fishing nets at Rostov. I didn't think of it in time, but I should have queued up a Galley in Yekaterinburg to intercept her Galley.

We would go on to lose our second Cossack taking the Egyptian capital. This city was also built upon a hill.

After playing 10 turns, I think it safe to say that Hatty is out of steam. She attempted a couple of counter attacks on St. Petersburg. Unfortunately, she thought sending in Knights would be a good idea. :D

Builds were nothing but Cossacks, with the exception of a couple of Explorers. Our stacks needed medics ...

We captured Angor Wat, Notre Dame, and the Great Lighthouse. The Taoist shrine at Pi-Ramesses is bringing in 6gpt. The prize will probably be at Memphis with the Jewish shrine.

We completed Printing Press on the final turn. We have a couple of research options open to us. We can go Guilds with an eye towards either the free GM at Economics or Replaceable Parts. The other option is Chemistry is only 10 turns. Guilds is available for a trade ...

A great scientist was born. He will lightbulb half of Chemistry for us. I'm guessing that if we had Optics, he might lightbulb Astronomy for us. We could also use him to build an Academy in our GL city.

The save is now over the 500K attachment limit. Back to you Kodii!

Grens would only be useful against rifles so would only probs need these if AI is close to that. What about if we can use GS to bulb Astro this and chem so we can get some frigates to help bombard coastal cities and watch for those sneaky galleys??

Maybe going to Economics, then Astro then Chem? I'm pretty sure the AI is pretty far back behind.

And... got it!

lurker's comment:
Bummer about the Cossack nerf - wasn't aware of that. I didn't pay attention to the 1.74 changelog as I usually play BTS nowadays. Still Cossacks vs. Longbows is a huge mismatch. You played very well so far, as could be expected by such a skilled team...

On a second look at the save, I think there is a chance that someone already has Economics. Hatty got a GM recently, but that might have been from somewhere else...

I think we'll have sufficient money from taking cities, so I'll head towards Astronomy then Chemistry.

I could have sworn I reported before falling asleep... I guess not.

I started by trading to get Guilds and Optics. Upon seeing that everyone already had Banking, I decided not to chase the GM, as we probably lost it already. I also noticed that the GS would still lightbulb part of Chemistry, so I let it be so and began to hand-research Astronomy after that. After Astronomy, I suggest Steel for those uber-Cannons.

Bad News:
-Hatty recaptured Alexandria
-Washington captured Vandal

I stopped right after Hatty was gone, as we need to decide who our next victim is. We lost some Cossacks to good odds, and Hatty got Gunpowder near the end of her reign, so hopefully she didn't manage to trade it (forgot to check). I have some units on go-to to Elephantine if we decided to strike Washington next.

After playing, I realized I probably should have played up to the point where our units were healed, so I apologize for that.

Mighty Dwaarf's is UP to play with the cossacks.

As for next victim, well its obviously Louis or Wshington or both if we can handle the load. I would say Washington then Kublai then Izzy and if we can support a second front then Louis. Washington has had Gunpowder for a while but cossacks can be pinch promoted and still eat muskets.
