DMI XIII - The CTON

On a side note... What happend to Deviant Minds? That website... is not the one I remember

Rex held the domain and when he disappeared from Civ life (presumably to get a real life) he let it lapse. There wasn't much traffic over there for the last six months of its life in any case. Still sad though

Open the save, everything looks nice. Though our cities could be planted closer together. But we're playing vs. lame Emperor AIs, not vs. NumberOneMercury. So it should be okay.

IW comes in.

And we have Iron. Our cap can be described with one word: SICK.

Please note I didn't add anything in WB - that's HB maps as they are :D .

Time to head for Monarchy and HR. So Poly is fired up.

Followed by Priesthood. The Oracle is gone unfortunately.

As turn 50 had passed I thought it was time to harass our neighbors a bit. Over the plains the sound of hooves is thundering...

...and the ruins of a city testify the Mongolian wrath...

Monarchy in 8, our cap will skyrocket then. I have not slaved it - 3 pop slaving is not great, and it will be happy soon anyway. Trained more workers too and a Settler. We got a new city. We have a small stack opf enemies coming in, nothing to fear.

Have fun!

Got it, look for the report tomorrow

Ok, pretty boring turns. I just played 9 turns to finish Monarchy I DID NOT REVOLT the next player should do so. I want to say I think Monarchy was a mistake, Construction for War Elephants would be better- that is the tech path i have selected, but we can debate it. After Construction I INSIST on Currency so we can continue to expand and just build wealth to keep our tech going. Additionally we need BIG stacks, I inherited 4 Keshiks that were very injured near Holy Rome, you can't do much with just 4 Keshiks, even one archer and one spear in a city on a hill could stop that. We want BIG stacks. BIG STACK > 50 units

If we want to pillage and I think we do, recommend a couple of keshiks and use the general to make a 2 move shock axe to keep up with them, use the next general we get to make a 2 move formation spear to join the raiding party. Sorry for the lack luster report, but really do you want to see a screen shot of Alt+Keshik?

Well, I took Monarchy for our obvious happiness problems. We can't whip that much without HR. Of course War Eles and Catas are great, but I don't think Monarchy was a big mistake. Agree though with Currency after Construction.

Got it. Unlikely to be able to play and post before Tuesday though.

Played nine or ten turns (I think) up to the discovery of construction. I was keeping some notes but now gone and lost them so I'll try to reconstruct from memory.

Our pillaging party down in the HRE kept running into spears (so the AI ain't always dumb) and one battered survivor is limping home after failing to pillage a single resource.

I noticed our high unit maintenance and poor research speed so to speed up construction I worked commerce tiles instead of production and built a couple of libraries in between the keshiks.

Swopped to HR first turn coz happy cities are productive cities. Odds and ends of pillagers turned up and were duly dispatched (lost two keshiks taking out a spear/chariot combo).

Made a mistake on using GG on a C2 axe who's now a C2medic2 axe (1xp from medic 3 healertype). Sent 4 keshiks out who managed to raze a carthaginian city, lost one, two more are at risk from wandering axemen.
Ramesses (that famous Carthaginian) has sent a stack wandering round our territory (axe, 2 spears, 3 chariots) who are awaiting elimination. We've got ourselves another GG awaiting placement.

I switched to feudalism last turn but no beakers have been invested so we could swop to currency without losing research.

Overall I'm a bit disappointed with my set. No major disasters but a bit meh.

Load it up and have a look around. The forces are spread a bit thin (and they are only keshiks at the moment).

We're set on Feudalism so I change to Currency.

Not sure on the best use of the GG. Can use on an elephant I suppose, which I end up doing.

I lose two keshiks at over 90% odds in a row clearing out Ramesses' invaders. They get cleared and currently there are no unfriendlies about

We get to Currency and I leave off, Code of Laws seems a good next choice for courthouses and maces (eventually). No beakers invested.

The troops are being assembled (including catapults etc) in Old Sarai, except for the remnants of the invasion force (3 keshiks) who are pillaging. Is it time to get invading (once we build up some more? Are we razing or keeping?

Happiness is becoming and issue but I built colosseum's where possible. We are negative at 60% research (so courthouses and markets might be the way to go)

We may need an extra city or two in the north (or even south) for some extra grunt. Not sure. 5 cities doesn't seem enough.

We would definitely need a couple more cities to catch up in research. I still think we should pack some cities closer to the current cities though ... we are currently wasting a lot of food and good tiles in each city due to the happy cap, which we won't be able to counter except by stacking up MPs.

The current trend of no screenies in reports should be discouraged ...

I'll take a look at the save and come up with a dot map later tonite.

And to make up for the previous no screenies reports, my report will be only screenies :mischief:

Well, the dot maps ain't pretty, but here they are.

We can put another city (orange) up north if we want, though I don't see much use for it

Civ4ScreenShot0003-61.jpg

And the south, shouth-east I have 2 dot maps for

A (more spaced out cities)

Civ4ScreenShot0002-62.jpg

and B (a little more closer in cities)

Civ4ScreenShot0001-67.jpg

I personally am more included in A and skip all the rest, but y'all can chime in and label the priorities for the next settler. Though how many cities are we shooting for in an AW game anyway?

So does that mean you want new dot maps?

I would prefer closely packed cities to our capitol ... we can never hope to grow a city to size 21, hence there is no problem with overlap. Given the obscene amount of good tiles in capitol, packing cities close to it is so much more optimal.

100% agreement
