nice job...i'll grab it from here and let ruff play on the weekend.
i still think purple shoud be next, and to get copper, maybe 1w of it in order to nab those fishes and still have a few hills to work.
also, we have to get 3 civs to friendly so i think we should use the cheat when we first meet a civ to boost ratings. when we meet anew civ for the first time, we shud gift them something and it bumps relations up a whole bunch...its usually like 50g or so, right??
im trying to get bug and bull to work, but so far, am unsuccessful. i get a "this save needs bug 4.3 mod" but i thought we're using 4.4?? idk....lmk...
re the copper - I was thinking of a city to nab those fish too. There are a ton of hills in that area, but not enough food to work them all. Lets see if we can spread them around a few cities.
my desktop has decided that it hates me and will not boot up (freezes at mup.sys). Guess you can move me to 'perma-skip' until I have read it the riot act.
You probably know the deal ... wife is an Apple-fanatic, I'm a Windows guy. Her mac starts 'acting funny' and its 'this thing is broken, I need a new one'. Mine starts to get the wobbles and its ... 'hmmn - what is going on here? Let me see what I can google'.
Turn 45/500 (2200 BC) [30-May-2010 10:41:53]
What? I've lost my internet connection? Its slow or non existant? Flip the box on its side and crack it open to show that the little green flashing light on the network socket is out. The yellow-brown one is one, but no green one. I know - lets try the classic windows solution to everything ... reboot.
St. Petersburg begins: Warrior (8 turns) Moscow begins: Settler (7 turns) - for the chop overflow
Turn 46/500 (2160 BC) [30-May-2010 10:44:53]
Nope - nothing. Same old problem. Hmmn. I get out an old network card (I was using the connection that came with the machine) and insert that. Turn it back on and ... bingo! Internet connection. Yay.
Moscow begins: Warrior (2 turns)
Turn 47/500 (2120 BC) [30-May-2010 10:53:29]
What a minute? Why does my task bar look like Windows 95? Right click on the desk top, select 'Appearances', check the theme drop down and only 1 is listed. What is going on. I google this and it suggests that my theme service has stopped. I start the services and, sure enough, the theme service is stopped. Along with a bunch of other automatically starting services.
Turn 48/500 (2080 BC) [30-May-2010 10:54:03]
I restart the theme service and I can go back to my nice blue XP task bar. However, when I load up a pbem game, civ4 reports that I have no audio services. I check the services and that is stopped too. ARgggg!
I've got to work out where these bugs are coming from. I mass produce a bunch of warriors and send them out on Barb Spawn busting duties (see pics at end).
I've also decided to divert that new shiny settler to Purple dot - lets get that locked down and then back fill.
PC problems are driving me nuts. I pick up the stupid case and throw it against the wall ... maybe that will help. Wife asks what I am doing and I say I am debugging my windows XP installation. She totally understands where I am coming from!
Oh oh, my settler with warrior escort is in trouble. A Barb archer has turned up. I leave the warrior in the forest and move the settler away. I am going totally pants down here!
Other Player Actions: While defending in the wild, Dick Longman loses to Barbarian Archer (1.80/3) (Prob Victory: 43.2%)
Well, that didn't turn out too well. Guess I should pick the pc pieces back up and see what I can do.
Turn 50/500 (2000 BC) [30-May-2010 10:55:46]
Now my newly installed (but old) network card isn't finding an IP address. Swap in my wireless card and I am back in business.
Turn 51/500 (1960 BC) [30-May-2010 10:56:51]
For a turn . This is getting really frustrating. It might be time to go nuclear!
Other Player Actions: While defending in the wild, Scout 1 (Moscow) loses to Barbarian Archer (2.40/3) (Prob Victory: 27.2%) While defending in the wild, Jack Hammer (1.32/2) defeats Barbarian Warrior (Prob Victory: 74.9%)

But wait ... before I do that - let me just back up my c drive to my 1TB portable drive. Waiting, waiting, waiting ... stupid virus scanner is scanning all the files I am copy. My own fault for selecting a non efficient way of backing up.
Ok, back up finished. I then image my current crappy set up using acronis - something that I picked up last time I had to do this. There are only so many times that I actually want to format my C drive and reinstall windows.
Turn 53/500 (1880 BC) [30-May-2010 10:59:09]
Backup image complete. I review the latest 'good' image that I have and it is from Oct 2009. Guess my non existent backup routine is working perfectly! I restore to that image and go to the movies to put off finding the source of the problem.
Options
restored image is junk - hardware issue and I pass it onto a local shop to fix
restored image is good and it was software / virus / trogen / other and I can just reinstall my missing progs / copy my missing files
Turn 54/500 (1840 BC) [30-May-2010 11:00:02]
Back (movie was pretty good) and I am greated with a nice smiling windows XP screen - nice blue theme. Computer sounds nice and quiet. Wonderful - it was software / bug / virus.
Turn 55/500 (1800 BC) [30-May-2010 11:01:04] Moscow begins: Worker (5 turns) A Quarry was built near Moscow
Naturally, McAfee goes nuts saying that I haven't run a scan for 6 months, my definitions are out of date and there is new versions to install. Stupid linear computer.
That barb archer (Combat 2 now) cannot make up its mind to attack my capital or my defenseless city. He wanders in the dark for a few turns. While defending in the wild near St. Petersburg, Rex Tyrranus (0.98/2) defeats Barbarian Warrior (Prob Victory: 76.9%)
Turn 57/500 (1720 BC) [30-May-2010 11:03:04]
We don't have enough workers (2 for 2 cities plus a settler when I started). I let Moscow grow while building ten zillion warriors and then double whipped a worker, letting the overflow finish another worker and the overflow from that finish a settler ... this game loves me sometimes.
Other times it hates me ... this isn't possible! Attitude Change: Tokugawa (Japan) towards Gilgamesh (Sumeria), from 'Cautious' to 'Pleased'
Turn 58/500 (1680 BC) [30-May-2010 11:04:12] Moscow begins: Settler (2 turns)
PC is back to normal. The Oct image had nearly all of the software that I typically use so I didn't see any that I have to reinstall. Downloading some updates, but nothing major. I am NOT d/l windows updates at this time. I will be putting in place a backup routine before I trust ms with that.
Turn 59/500 (1640 BC) [30-May-2010 11:05:18] A Mine was built near Moscow Research begun: Writing (5 Turns)
I restart writing after picking up pottery. We should start throwing down some cottages soon. Still need more workers but I think that we can put Moscow on a warrior pump, grow, double whip settler, overflow into worker, repeat cycle.
Unfortunately, the next player has to stay with the pants down defenses in the West .

If so, this is the problem I had. In the end I had to install it the other way and manually move the folders into the mod directory and install again. What you're experiencing is the installer trying to create folders but Vista not allowing it to, so it returns a non-specific failure error. Took me a while to work out.
sooo....tried installing as a mod, as the single player option; tried backing up custom assets and renaming CA, still nothing...getting stuck on the initialize screen...or rather, on the main screen, before initialization.
have win 7 (or whatever this new one is called, win 2010?)
