Should Nancy Pelosi be visiting Syria?

I mean, really.

I wasn't expressing what I thought but rather what I fear others would think.

Random thought: what message is she transmitting when she's wearing the head scarf, but her attendees are not....?

Democrat and approve of her visiting Syria. At leas she is willing to patch up the US's immage where Bush just sits back and complain.

Republican and for it. Bush seems to think outrage is a foreign policy. I really like the idea that this "legitimitizes" them. I'm sure thats what Ahmadenijad and Assad are really in the dumps about, "I'm the recognized head of state of a major regional power, but I'm just not legitimate until I get a visit from a middle aged congresswomen". Shes not trying to play Jane Fonda, shes trying to play Kissinger.

Why isn't Rice there?

And what's with all the ******** arguments that this "legitimizes" our "enemies"? I mean, back in the old days, unless we were raping and pillaging each other's villages, we talked to our "enemies" all the time.

Independent and against

For one it seems to be mostly a PR move

Secondly she is overstepping her bounds. LEGISLATE, WOMAN! (In the least offensive way possible). Let the diplomats take care of the diplomacy

And yes, Rice should get over there and deal with that police state, she knows what she's doing. Nancy doesn't seem to comprehend the idea that not everyone sees diplomacy and politics from the Democratic American point of view.

You do realise that in America, its fairly normal, and indeed expected of prominent legislators to travel abroad while in Office?

Yes

doesn't mean it's right. I believe they should do what they are paid to do: participate in congress

everything else is PR

A nice big fat target for you haters of Congressional interference in foreign affairs:

One example of this was a congressional delegation led by Rep. Dennis Hastert (R-IL) which met with Colombian military officials, promising to “remove conditions on assistance” and complaining about “leftist-dominated” U.S. congresses of years past that “used human rights as an excuse to aid the left in other countries.” Hastert said he would to correct this situation and expedite aid to countries allied in the war on drugs and also encouraged Colombian military officials to “bypass the U.S. executive branch and communicate directly with Congress.”

I got some more information on Pelosi's trip from a BBC report tonight & I'm feeling better about it as a result.

It's not just Pelosi. It's a bipartisan, congressional delegation. The purpose of the trip is to discuss the situation in Iraq. The delegation also visited Israel.

As for what she's wearing, who cares? Nothing wrong with wearing local styles of dress.

My concern was that she was parading around Syria to get some press & court American Arab support. Apparently, my concern was unfounded.

"These people in the United States who are opposing dialogue, I tell them one thing: Dialogue is … the only method to close the gap existing between two countries," "We are happy that Mrs. Pelosi and her delegation had the courage and determination to bridge these differences." ~ Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Moallem

That says it all doesnt it? bush and his big stick diplomacy failed long ago. Perhaps if bush had walked soflty with that big stick then things would have been differant. But bush was a blowhard cowboy who happened to also be our village idiot. Now it is time to get back to a more realistic and intelligent approach. "The king is dead. Long die the king."

* "Walk softly and carry a big stick.'' - Theodore Roosevelt

* "The King is dead. Long live the King!"
.

I am no fan of the other branches of my government acting counter to the executive branch. But then I am no fan of the executive branch acting counter to the other 2/3 of my government. As far as I see it bush and his ilk are rogue. So the lesser of two evils makes it so that I support such open resistance to a lame duck, idiot cowboy pirate like bush!

* Rogue
1. An unprincipled, deceitful, and unreliable person; a scoundrel or rascal.

bush is worse than a rascal and our village idiot. He is far more dangerous than all that. It is time to geld this dumb bull and reign in the harm that his herd have done. It is time to wake up and smell the burning carcasses and choose a differant path to travel. gw bush and his gang have alterior motives that run counter to what is best for the United States and the World. It is now past time to geld this beast and put him out to pasture.

By the way for the OP poll.... I did not vote for I am "none of the above". I am a free thinker who does not limit myself to political party concerns! If I had to choose a party I would be the (hopefully) upcoming Bypatisan Party. Think free and act as individuals for the common good! Please!!

Uh, there is an option for independents...

You just made 4 posts in a row. You could edit your 1st post unless you're trying to build a post count.

No even the Independents do not represent me!!!

And no!!! I care not for post count as a little investigation might point to.

(btw some 20 minutes seperated my first and second posts.)

I am a free thinker

'Free thinker' might sound all high and mighty, but it's a term commonly used by conspiracy theorists to describe themselves to make them appear more legitimate. They want to appear to be legitimate, as in real freethinking http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freethought , but their bias in deciding which facts to accept at their face value and which facts to dismiss no matter how much evidence there is, devalues the meaning of 'free thinker'.

No even the Independents do not represent me!!!

So, I guess that leaves the extremists?
I would guess that since you seem to want Bush dead.

Get off that consiracy theorists boat for it has long since sunk! Only the sheep cling to it hoping for a salvation which will not come. You are as done as a lambchop which is long overcooked.

And then you speak of freethinking yet you base your thinking on recent propaganda. I base my thinking based on paying attention for over 30 years. EVEN NOW I do not deliniate myself a Republican. Democrate, or Idenpendant. I am me and I think as I do depsite what others think! Frack parties. I think as I do! I will not limit myself to other peoples thinking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If not for some unusual delay in records requists for the United States official library of records... then I would have some current info to counter the sheeps major current falsehoods. But the Library of Congress has a HUUUUUUGE backlog (2 yrs plus) despite gw bushs removal of information for us. I am sooooo sick and tired of running into roadblocks that only the sheep observe as worthy. We (you not me) are being manipualted by a system which has been exerting its media influence for more than 30 years (confirmed!!). Once the Library of Congress can catch up to this unprecented requests, and once a REAL AMercican President lifts the bans that bush has placed upon public record... then you to will also know beyond a shadow of a doubt. I have been looking at this problem for 30 years now. The evidence is overwhelming. And it pisses me off to no end that now that we are in the so callled "information age" that I cannot referance documents that I have read! By the time they will come bush will be a confirmed corpse and much of his Freedom of INformation Acts will be repealed so long as they dont get their 'democratic' electee into office. You will know if their man is in office or the peoples man is in NOT in office if once banned public record is finally turned over to our people. I trust not Obama. I would vote Macain or Powell, and wonder about others but I would not trust Obama who has quite ties to bush. Whatever the case we wil know when we know wont we? Then it wil be too late.
