Do you belive being gay is a choice, if so try to choose to be gay yourself, just for a day, you'll find you won't succeed. Case closed.

I tried it once for a day, but I couldnt stop laughing, so I gave up.

Give up after only one day? Didn't you learn anything in kindergarten: If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.
;)

I think that in a few cases (although certainly the minority) being gay is a way to get attention for some people. Although it is certainly natural in most cases!

When a 16-year-old girl claims to be bisexual because her friends laugh at her and parents ignore her, it's a choice.

When a 16-year-old boy in Alabama is scared shitless that his abusive, drinking, redneck father will find it, it's not a choice.

True but that girl will always, always, be attracted to guys and nothing can stop that.

You are an idiot. This is not what choice is about. You cannot force yourself to go against what you believe. Choice is about having options and then making a decision from those choices.

Then you do not see that there are lesbians out there who refuse to even be seen with men.

There are, but if you try to force yourself to be a lesbien no matter how many women you have sex with, if you were not born gay, you will never be gay, at the most you'll be a straight person acting gay.

I'm really tired of Alabama being the standard by which backwardness is judged. For pete's sake, pick on Mississippi. They're a lot more screwed up than we are. ;) And for the topic of this discussion, I don't know if homosexuality is a choice or not. I'm not homosexual, so I couldn't say.

It seems to me as though I can imagine it.

Option A: I'm bisexual.
Option B: I have a really, really twisted mind.
Option C: I can delude myself very thoroughly
Option D: Being gay is a choice.
Option E: Some or all of the above.

:crazyeye:

Then those are pig headed idiots. They don't speak for all (or even the majority of) lesbians. One of my closest friends is a lesbian. She's never ashamed to be seen with me, not even when we've gone lesbian bars together (where I've never been made to feel unwelcome).

What the hell are you talking about? That film was about a young gay whale coming to terms with his homosexuality, the freedom bit was just a metaphor for him finally coming out of the closet and being accepted by his familly and peers. Honestly you must of been watching a different film from me:rolleyes::D

This is a complicated issue on the one hand there are people who are "Born gay" and there are people who become gay or bisexual or whatever. It's a complicated social and heriditary issue. Ask yourself why does homosexuality exist in humans or for that matter in the animal kingdom, surely it's not a viable evolutionary state and should therefore have died out? It's thought that the gay genes if you want to call them that are advantageous to a familly dynamic or have some evolutionary advantage that isn't obvious but whatever the reason there here their queer and they aint goin' nowhere?

Sidhe, carlosmm2 gave a more complete explanation of that in another recent thread, but the answer is basically that there's no "gay gene". Instead, sexuality seems to be affected by the level of testosterone, and possibly other hormones, in the foetus. That level is affected by a gene complex that is expressed in a range of testosterone production. It's advantageous for that range not to be centred on too high a point, because that would produce males on the high end who were too aggressive; with the seemingly optimal centre point, males on the low end tend to become homosexual.

What?! It clearly demonstrated and symbolized the emergence of a gay old whale from the shackles of modern western fascist ideology.
Fascism? Shows how much you know, apparatchik

The "aquarium" was obviously a metaphore for capitalism, the water a metaphore for the blood and sweat o the labourers, and the boy a metaphore for Karl Marx.
