I bet he is lurking. Then when someone gets near his 11.000 plus he will just start spamming away like a maniac.

I've only recentley come "back" which is odd since I just got a job. So that must mean, school drives me back to Civ/CFC.

This site isn't that of an addiction, I came every other day, for various reasons (school, mood, others)

Addiction, but not harmful. I still have a g/f, good social life, do sports, get good grades, etc.

Im addicted, but i dont care

Hmmm...Cgannon was a regular poster 22 years ago when he started this thread. He has been gone for a very long time. The question might well still be relevant. CFC is an old form social media with similarities to Tik Tok, Instagram and FB, Bluesky etc. I think it is less addictive than the more modern forms as it is slower in its content flow and more interactive. CFC is my primary social Media and has been since.....2001. Am I addicted? Of course not. I can walk away easily anytime.....

@Richard III I see that you have been here a bit longer than me. You should post more.

Heheheh.

I used to go pretty long periods of time between visits/posts. I've been more consistent these past years. In general, I don't view CFC itself as an attachment/addiction, though it does provide a peculiar sense of socialization that I am in search of and thus have it fulfilled here. I often think to myself that I'd stop coming here if a better alternative appears. That has yet to happen, so to CFC I still go. Discord is nice and has offered a different kind of socialization, but not the kind of presence that a forum does.

Addicting? Sure any board can be. For years I was on another gaming site until I quit cold turkey. It just wasn't very inspiring anymore. (Believe me, the folks were a lot dumber there...)

I've actually had another account on Civ Fanatics since 2012 (?) or so but lost track of it, so with the coming of Civ 7, I just made a new one! But I imagine this will peter out in a few years time too. Or maybe the next Civ will be out before then.

You can ask an admin if the two accounts can be merged.

I haven't played since my XP decided not to work right anymore, but the forum itself is addictive. It will soon be 20 years for me.

I take your advice on games. It's one of things that I spend the most time on and you are one of the smartest voices I hear, when you choose to speak.

To play a game of Civ and actually like it, to like playing games that last 8-12+ hours, you actually need brainpower and patience. That's a big level of entry for current generation.
Therefore I like to hang out with other people who possess such brainpower.

Besides, reading politics was interesting when I was younger. I joined when I was 21.

I was too shy to join fiftychat and timezone didn't work in my favor, but I love Aimee's, Valka's, Kyriakos' posts (I mention them, because they (these people) haven't disappeared though years) and then during some time periods I had other favorites as well.

Compared to physics/math/general science forums which sometimes are too elitist, this place has less of elitism. On the other hand, I would bet that average IQ of this forum is at least 115.

Also it is fun to see people growing up. I wish we talked more about family stuff - how it is to be a dad, do you get pleasure from helping your brother's or sister's kids grow up, do you still talk with your dad if you are 50 yourself etc.

Also for some reason I realized in 2020s that this forum actually had several trans or LGBT people and reading their stories was cathartic.

I check CFC daily to see if there is something else than politics going on.

Oh, and I miss Lemon Merchant. She was a really nice person.
