Do you have a gun?

For the record, the only physchoanalyzing I was doing was thinking that you must be a hobbyist.

I didn't think you were implying anything bad. But you're correct. I do keep and carry one occasionally for self-defense purposes most of the guns I have are for recreation and collecting.

BTW as far as collecting I'd like to have all the authentic standard service WWII rifles from the major participating countries:

Japan - Arisaka Type 99, Britiain - Enfield SMLE, a No 4 and Jungle Carbine, Germany - K98, USA - M1903, M1 Garand and M1 Carbine, Russia - Mosin-Nagant and SVT-40, France - MAS39, Italy - some type of Carcano, etc..

So far I only have one of those but will be adding more in near the when I have more time and money.

You read the title. If so, why do you own a gun? What kind? How Many?

As it would be illegal, I do not have a gun. (But if it were, I still would not have a gun.)

now i dont have a pretend interwebz psychology degree like you do, so you're probably right. but i think its because they're not pansies and realize that guns are cool. what do you think of my diagnosis dr.troll?

Getting shot with a gun ususally isn't that cool.

"A fear of weapons is a sign of ******** sexual and emotional maturity."
-Sigmund Freud(???)

Freud would more likely comment that a(ny) weapon - but specifically a gun - is a symbolical extension of a man's you know what. (Which makes just as much sense, as guns are owned by women too. That "you're average person" associates guns - and cars - with men is more telling of the average person's intelligence than of reality.)

Every man serious about protecting his own family should own a gun, or at the very least know how to use one. That is the only way you are going to be able to defend yourself from more than one attacker, who may happen to be physically stronger than you. If you've ever had to investigate a strange noise in the middle of the night, you'll know how comforting that weight in your hand can be.

Of course, you are always free to play the part of a helpless victim - like these guys:

or this cute story:

Sometimes waiting 20 minutes for the cops to arrive is not an option...

Firing a gun is pretty cool though.

It's so cool you need to protect your ears while practicing at the firing range.

There's no way to keep safe from criminal morons. Part of the problem is that guns are so easy to obtain in the first place.

I don't have a gun. I have, however, large stockpiles of nerve agents.

Yep, accidentally or mistakenly shooting your son/dog/guest/etc.... damned comfortable.

age is a poor excuse, there are kids younger than you out there in the world who are fighting war's.

Excuse? I was just saying that where I live its not even legal for me to own a gun at my age. Where did you get excuse? I don't even know if I wan to own one when I grow up.

I imagine most people have a gun due to some sort of emotional or mental instability. Or maybe they have one for criminal purposes. Or maybe they have one because they feel powerless and insignificant without it?
I would agree if you substituted "most" with "many" in your statement.
There are perfectly good reasons to own a gun. Even for mature, mentally stable, law-abiding people who do not have problems with self-esteem.

I think based on that statement we can safely exclude you from one or more of categories brought above. Guns are not "cool". Owning a gun means you must potentially be ready to use it for its intended purpose, which is to kill.
Killing is not "cool". It may be necessary sometimes, but it is definitely not "cool".

I'm a little confused because hossam never stated that killing people was cool to begin with so why are you putting words in his mouth? I think guns are cool and interesting. People think other weapons such as swords, bombers and tanks are cool too...And? Doesn't mean that me or anyone else thinks that killing and death is "cool."

Owning a gun doesn't have to entail the idea of killing a person either. Lots of people own guns for purely sporting purposes that are kept unloaded and locked up tight and would never even think about shooting anyone even in self-defense.

My dad owns a couple for hunting but they are properly locked up and I don't have access to them.

I'm also looking into collecting WWII Rifles and pistols but I'd also aim to get the weapons of lesser known WWII combatives like Ethiopia or Brazil.

I'm sure it's just to protect your family:crazyeye:

Many weapons are not really useful for sports (hunting, shooting range etc.), for example, shotguns, are you shooting pigeons?

No, but I plan to get one when I turn 21.
