Do you miss Age of Empires? Remake in the works - 0 A.D.

I dont know about you guys, but I am personally RTS type of player. Civ is the only turn based strategy game I play. I think the concept of Empire building is what attracted me to civ in the first place. Also competative working multiplayer is what kept me in civIV. Since now multiplayer is non-existant and tired of waiting for almost a year with no patches to adress it, I am thinking or some other game to get really into. I think Age of Empires was the perfect game. Historical, Very competative multiplayer, ratings, clans, international competitions ect. If you guys enjoyed that, there is a indie remake by fans called " 0 A.D. " It is goign to be freeware and you already can download the betta. It looks pretty awsome. Problem is, while a good RTS is occasionally fun to play for awhile, I could never really get into the whole RTS genre. LOL, TBS is my comfort zone.

Interesting, but it's not very related to Civ, is it? Though the original Age of Empires was inspired by Civ, since Ensemble Studios' Bruce Shelley worked on Civ with Sid Meier. :|

Aoe, and starcraft are the two games that really got me into online multiplayer I heard they shut down the online for aoe age of kings is this true? if so its sad as I poped in age of mythology 2 years ago and there were still 300 people playing it.

It is whole bunch of fans of AOE got together to remake the game they liked. A volonteer group basically of aspiring game designers who think this will look good ona job application resume. That is why it is taking forver for them to complite it. Right now they dont have a demo- just a beta version (which u can play). They are still in development however.

I've already heard that 0 ad is an interesting project, and the devs have put a lot of work into it...it will be interesting to see how it develops.

Wow, this looks amazing, it seems to apply the historical applicability of Rome: Total War with the multiplayer applicability of AOE. I've been playing that series for 10 years and I still player AOEIII over ESO from every once in a while. Great find Ermak. I can't wait to play the celts, downloading now.

I've been checking out Age of Empires: Online recently, and I enjoy it, but in many ways it seems like a bastardization of Age of Empires rather than actual continuation.

I kind of miss it but like Drakarska I never got into that type of RTS. Still have my discs though, and AoEIII was an awesome 12 cent purchase on GFWL marketplace.

Microsoft said they disbanded Ensemble Studios over the issue of the employees there being pricey, so now they decided to make Age of Empires Online (the bastard son). Real pity. They killed a great series. And it's not the first time Microsoft has done that. -_-

You lucky bum, whenever I even try to open AoK it crashes to my desktop. I hear a startup sound, see the screen, and then I'm on my desktop again.

I've somehow been able to start it 3 times properly since I got it, which isn't nearly enough.

Is there AI yet?

I'd like to know as well. I can't handle war and economy at the same time against humans. That's why I mainly play Civ and TW. AI is perfect for me.

My Age of Empires Collector's Edition (includes AoE, AoK plus both games' expansions) still works very well but every time I click Diplomacy, the game crashes. Apparently I just need to go rage on everyone in the game.
