Hi, autism is not an excuse for not spelling good, nor for the lack of understanding of a subject. Bad spelling is not even a symptom of autism.

If you've decided to be the forum pedant on spelling I would sugeest you use correct grammar, otherwise people wont take your corrections seriously.

Is not an excuse for not spelling well: would be better English.

Actually - is not an excuse for poor spelling - would be perfect.

I really really really hate people who point out grammar and spelling mistakes, really do, really really do I hate them!!!

Besides it's against forum rules so kindly zip it.

What? I wasn't saying anything about his spelling itself, other than the fact that he says that it is because of his autism in his signature, when poor spelling is not part, nor associated with, autism. He may have another disability which makes prone to poor spelling, (And I'm sure of it, as there are many disorders correlated with it) just not autism itself.

Besides, I wasn't pointing out grammar mistakes.

Autism isnt part of spelling issues i know. I have autism and it makes other things much more difficult.

I agree that it is annoying to see people nitpicking on little mistakes we all make often enough. But when entire posts are written with endless mistakes, no punctuation, no capitalization, etc, it definetely should be commented upon.
Just as it is inappropriate to yell and curse during a "real life" discussion, it is inappropriate to write like a ******** third grader on a serious internet forum.

too high, and they're after different resources

It's something that always bothered me. Why do we assume that technological progress is endless? In this case, why cant be a number of civilizations that reached a hypothetical technological limit and compete for the same, "ultimate" resource(s)?

I don't assume it's really endless (I like Stephen Baxter's Xeelee as a good example of an end to technological capabilities), but I assume that overtime, the type of resource being competed for will change.

For example, once we get fusion in the bag, then planets won't really be a necessity anymore, just hydrogen (we can make all the elements we need AND energy too). So, at that point, fighting over rocks won't really make much sense, especially given the distance.

However, for us, the rocks are important. We'll happily kill each other for oil, conflict diamonds, etc. But once fusion is perfected, then the first group to Jupiter will have a totally different idea of 'resources' than Earth people would, and have different ideas of competition.

But, along that line, stars become hugely wasteful, and one would predict engineering efforts to reduce the rate at which stars burn (just like nowadays we'd put out a fire in a coal mine, just to keep the coal around). However, if there was another stage of resource-usage, then stars would become as useless to that civilization as coal will be for us when we have perfected fusion.

However, the species that still values hydrogen will be in direct competition for another species that values hydrogen. AND, they'll be much more capable of interacting/competing than we're currently able to fight with the Zergovs for oil.

To answer though, IF there is an ultimate resource (um ... protoculture?), then the first species to achieve it would be motivated to prevent competition for it, certainly. And who knows what they would do? A logical action is to speed development/progress towards that ultimate resource, in order to get to it first, or before your attempts are stopped.
