Simple question, how do you type your post?

Can you type with ten fingers and blind, or are you typings taking ages because you have to search for each letter you need and type them with one finger. :)

edit- meant to add a poll and change the title. Works great this new forum ;)
Maybe the mod can add a poll?

I type with all ten fingers. Though most of the time I'm glancing down a the keyboard.

Well, I use 10 fingers, and don't look don't most of the time (sometimes I look down, not sure why ^_^;; )

I try to use as many fingers as possible but in the end I would say that I don't actually use all 10 and I still glance at the keyboard even after years of posting...

I don't use my left thumb

I could, but I normally type (as in words) with only 4 fingers.

Thumbs are occationally for spaces, and other fingers including pinky for cursor keys or shift etc. There doesn't appear to be a specific pattern but speed isn't a problem - I can keep pace with dictation, not that is in any way related to my work.

Although I can type in the dark where I cannot see the keyboard, it takes a few taps on the board to find where exactly the keys are; I never learned to type by the rules, which includes using the raised F & J keys as a bearing.

I type fairly fast and error free, all fingers on the home row, right thumb for spaces. Dont use my left thumb either. Can type blind.

"Keyboarding" was a mindless "easy A" class in my highschool that filled in gaps in the course schedule for freshmen and seniors. I took it as a senior and was very thankful I knew how to type in college.

<edit> As a test, lay your hands on a flat table and try to visualize the keystrokes required to type a word. Hard to visualize because you don't have a keyboard to look at. But now think of a sentence and 'type' it on the flat table. It's difficult without the feedback of a keyboard, but you'll be amazed at how your body will remember the keystrokes if you just think of the words and let your fingers move on their own.

Yea I type with all my fingers, seems silly to do it by the two index fingure method, which is so slow.

I type okay. I glance a little. Usually typing with maybe 7 or 8 fingers, but I'll use all ten, especially when it comes to Shift and other buttons. I certainly let my fingers move around somewhat, not restricted to the rules of typing that only one finger can type these four or five keys.

Yeah, without glancing at all. This means sometimes I put my fingers down wrong and every letter is one key off.

So I will be on AIM and type "jrj" or "gwg" instead of "heh". Most people who I am in contact with regularly have gotten used to it; it freaks them out when they see it for the first time, though.

I can type with all ten fingers with my eyes closed... see? ;)

Though I am more comfortable when I glance at the keyboard occasionally and prior to typing.

Let me see... I will type a short story to see which fingers I usually use when I type... So once upon a time a little dog has met a little ***** and they just love each other it was great. Unfortunately, well, they've met together in Florida during holidays on the beach at St Petersburg (not in Russia). Well anyway, they were so much in love together that the dog has run from Nebraska to Ohio only to find his ***** again. Isn't that cute ?

Ok I've used all my finger except the left thumb and the two little fingers. So I'm using seven fingers. And I don't watch the keyboard. :)

Oh ! :(
Looks like I've been censored... what's the name of a female dog in English ?

I have all ten fingers on the "home row" keys. The home row keys are: a,s,d,f,j,k,l,;. I type letters and usually numbers without looking. I can probably type about 70 GWAM (gross words a minute) allowing for a few mistakes (that I deleted when I see appear on screen). When it comes to things such as "Print Screen/SysReq and special characters such as * I often look at the keyboard for 1-3 seconds to find it. I have memorized some special characters such as the # symbol, ~, and !. At first keeping your fingers on the home keys may sound horrible and ineffective however it does work very well once you get used to it :) ;) :D . Typing classes help your skill and speed in typing matters a massive amount. If you type enough you may become proficient as well.

I highly recommend putting your left hand's fingers on the keys: a,s,d,f and the right hand's fingers on: j,k,l,; if you do not already. Sometimes looking at the keyboard for about one second can help you type even if you are only glancing and not really seeing or examining the keys (apparently helps confidence). Therefore sometimes I look at the keyboard for about a second when typing things like ":".

I used to look at the keys all the time, until I realised that I didn't need to! Now I never look, only to type crazy symbols like $ or F6. Did anyone play that car race game in Mavis Beacon (I think)? The one where you had to type to make the car go faster, and the speedometer told you how many word per minute you do? That was pure genius! They should have that on the consoles.

I rarely look at the keyboard, too, so I can type in the dark. And yes, I type with all 10 fingers.
