DoC Domination Challenge

I took a 3000BC start to avoid strong Byzantium and I took my troops straight to Greece and then Italy. I also razed Constantinople to deny it from the Ottomans and found it myself after their flip. Mongols troops spawned, but I had pikes and knights to take them down, surprisingly Mongols were willing to capitulate after I had demolished their troops in sight. They proved to be a good vassals and next in line were the Ottomans, I razed Ankara and they had only one city left before capitulating. I took Makkah for the Spiral Minaret, but liberated Egypt and Iran for them. Korea also vassalised at some point.

I didn't go for the conquerors, since my troop maintenance was already high. Portugal took the Inca's conquerors and Incas offered to vassalise for war against Portugal, so I took Lisbon and Masqat for Turkey and razed Faro, after which Portugal vassalised. Meanwhile, I was colonizing Siberia and using the culture slider to get the land.

I took a 3000BC start and managed to get my hands on to Eastern Europe quite easily, naturally I conquered England as well. Russia was capitulated and other vassals were Spain, Iran, Incas and Aztecs. I sent my settlers around the world and turned the culture slider for an easy victory. Vikings are a real powerhouse.:D

I got some extra troops after the flip, since Portugal declared war and I rallied some of them to raze Paraguay and capture Buenos Aires from Argentina, while rest went North all the way to indy Caracas. I capitulated Argentina and gathered all my troops to Macapa. I declared war on America and took Philadelphia and razed Washington and St. Augustine. I then continued taking American cities one by one, but in a quite slow pace. Eventually America collapsed, but I continued on preying the indies. At some point I was unstable, but the Economy grew steadily in the homeland, so I managed to slowly gain stability.

Later Portugal respawned and vassalised and around 1960s really huge Ottoman Empire collapsed due to over expansion and their former vassals China and Congo switched allegiance to me in exchange for war against Korea and Vikings. I airlifted my some troops to China and took Korea out. After blockading the Vikings for ages, I made peace with them and Japan vassalised immeatidely. Meanwhile I was preparing an invasion against Mexico, who coincidentially had an defence pact with Incas, so I rushed them simultaniously in about 5 turns. After which I just waited for the new cities to gain land. I had the treshold 28%, until Poland respawned in middle of a Mega-Germany and I won.

This was a very enjoyable game, this was with SVN506. Went for as many religions as possible and managed to found Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, Catholicism, Islam and Protestantism. Technically I founded Orthodoxy also because I built the Apostolic Palace, but the holy city wasn't in my territory. Later I captured the Zoroastrian and Confucian holy cities also.

Got lucky at the start and grabbed Iron Working in a tribal village. Without this I don't think it is possible to found Taosim. I maxed out early on Priest specialists in Varanasi and spawned 7 Great Priests in a row from the start. Had to use one of them to partially bulb Islam, otherwise Arabia would have beaten me to it.

Khmer vassalised early and I assisted them to capture Singapore from the Indonesians. Importantly, Khmer has the only Stone remotely near India. Eventually, once China and Mongolia collapsed, my loyal ally captured almost all of China. Spain and Turkey voluntarily vassalised to me. I was waiting for Inca or Aztec to do likewise but they never did.

By the time the trading company troops arrived I had Infantry to face down the French and Tanks to face down the English. My shrine income allowed 100% research all game and I was also able to amass over 6,000g by the late 1600s, although I used a lot of this to upgrade my troops and rush-buy some tanks. I had settlers in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Alaska and Canada waiting for the final Golden Age and rush to cover the land area required for Domination.

what happened to the mughals ?

They spawned and took Delhi the very turn that I founded Protestantism, in Delhi. :(

Two turns later they tried to flip Takshashila and Varanasi, which I obviously refused. They got a few extra units because of this. I launched my stack of Cuirassiers into their stack in Delhi and eliminated it. Exit Mughals stage right. There is the obligatory "some of your forces are joining the enemy" for a bunch of turns, but it's not hard to keep units out of the Mughal flip zone for a little while.

The Mughal cameo appearance also caused my capital to move south.

Their appereance is rather annoying, imo it should be presented with large barb spawns before 1200 and be conditional on the Indian stability.

The starting situation was decent, since Spain wasn't present in Argentina. I rolled straight against Incas, who had survived the Italian conquerors. Meanwhile I settled Chile and prepared to settle Porto Alegro right after the Brazilian spawn. From Quito I sailed north through Portuguese 'Panama' channel and found indy New Orleans, which I promptly took for a bridgehead to invade America. I sent stacks of Grenadier Cavalries there and begun assaulting the Eastern seaboard. I managed to take it, but they remained strong in plains with fighters, so I had to sign interim peace and finally finish the job with tanks and bombers. Meanwhile I also conquered Brazil.

After securing the Americas Italy offered to vassalise, but that required starting a war against half of the civs, but I took the offer and Congo (fighting the same foes) also vassalised. I quickly capitulated Germany and then Spain, which was enough, with two Canadian culture bombs, for the win.

BTW, I will add 1700 scenario Domination Victories as a separate list. Of course the basic list remains the same and if the 1700 start DVs beat the earlier records, they qualify for the standard list as well.

I'm planning to try for my first domination victory soon. Which civs would you recommend for it?

As jusos2108 says, civs with large historical areas are the easiest. Russia is pretty easy as long as you survive the Mongols early. England and France are both pretty easy too. Spain was easy but now needs to work faster to achieve Domination before all of the new South and Central American civs show up.

I have accidentally won a Domination victory as Russia on more than one occasion when I was actually going for a UHV instead.

france can get decently close going for uhv as well. i needed only 7% more in 1800(with portugal and russia as vassals) and hadnt settled historical areas such as cayenne. theres just so much historical for them in north america

Colombia is really expansionist civilization, because of its UU and UP. It became one of favourite civs. First off I declared war on England, since they wouldn't open borders. I took Georgetown and razed Barbados. Then came France and I razed Chayenne and took Port-au-Prince before declaring war on Brazil. After Brazil I declared war on Spain and took Peru & Uruguay (razed) from them. They collapsed and the only civ left in South America was Argentina, who fell easily by my Brazilian veterans. I regrouped and built the Cristo Redentor.

Before attacking America, I managed to found Los Angeles and conquer indy New Orleans, which made my task significantly easier. After taking the air supremacy from the USA, they fell pretty quickly. I really had to dog-fight many of their Fighters, which was really entertaining. America was stable still when I had taken all the valuable cities, so I capitulated them and left them with their tundra cities. Poland and Iran vassalised as well.

I crushed Mexico in two turns, but they dragged Indonesia into war against me, so sailed there and after puonding their cities and destroying their army; they vassalised as well. I was preparing to declare nuclear war on Russia, but since they were already collapsing, I delayed it to keep my resource deals with Russia's vassals. They collapsed pretty quickly and soon after that I won.
