DoC Domination Challenge

I would be extremely interested in finding out the turns that each civ's domination took. Could somebody provide an easy way to calculate this?

Take the turn you end with and subtract the turn you spawned from to that number.

I take it you want this information to find the average/median finish date for Domination victory?

Well yes, but I would need a table for years & turns.

Yes, for that and comparing diffenrent civs, since years aren't comparable.

@Tachywaxon: what question?

Is the early 18th century too late to capitulate Russia? Because it's currently the 1850s and Cathy seems content to let my stack rampage through her territory. I've seen her go from Longbows to Muskets to Rifles, and I'm starting to doubt my ability to capitulate her.

You need to ensure that Cathy is under the average power rating of all the living civs.
If she has Rifles and has expanded past Russia proper already, then you're out of luck.
Things that contribute to Power aren't just limited to units, but also techs & infrastructure.

OK, I have a mechanics question.

I am Turkey, and I have four vassals, one willingly, (Austria) three capitulated. (Iran, Aztecs, Inca) I am currently trying to capitulate France, and he is saying that I have "Grown to Powerful" for him. I thought I could have unlimited capitulations, but only four peacevassals?

First step is to conquer Egypt, then Phoenicia, Greece and finally Rome. This way you can remove all the competition to the classical wonders and also deny the Byzantine spawn. After that I warred just occasionally and focused on teching. I got Rifling before I went for the conquerors, so I got riflemen and cannons to take control of the New World with. I took one Mayan city and razed other Mayan and Aztec cities to collapse them. I capitulated the Incas.

Eventually I expanded deeper into Europe and gained more vassals. In the end I played it quite safe, so there is much room for improvement.

Well it is hard to say, since I have played RFC quite much, but basically it doesn't take more than one failed game to figure out how to do things better.

I think specifically, you should take note of anything that might disrupt your potential plans for your civ.

For instance, as Persia, I would keep this list handy:

Defense:

-Expect Roman & Greek conquerors.
Have Shock units ready.
-Expect Seljuks.
Have Elephants ready.
-Expect Mongols.
Have Rifles ready.

Expansion:

-Expand into China -> Prepare for Mongol main stack.
-Expand into India -> Prepare for Mughal flip.
-Expand west -> Prepare for Arab & Ottoman flips.
-Expand north -> Mongols flip Samarkand.

Doing little things like this can improve your organization and planning.

More questions, because I feel like this will remedy some of my main problems.

When someone wants to flip my cities, do I let them flip them, wait 10 turns, and then take them back, or what?

And are the Aztecs, Inca, or Maya worth capitulating?

Some frown upon this tactic, but it is still a valid one worth mentioning:

Deny them the flip, but let them take the city.
On the next turn, the AI will move most of their units out of the city,
and you can move in via roads & mobile units or amphibiously, in the case of civs separated from a body of water.
After you seize the city, delete your troops.

Happy Turkey Day!

Game started with me inheriting 5 cities from the Romans.
Ordinarily, I would balk at this, but I decided to try out the youtien approach and it worked out swimmingly.
DoW'ed Rome after gathering my stack as they didn't DoW me on spawn and overran Milan and Rome. Then picked off the leftovers during their collapse.
Around this time, I settled Scotland too, and England wound up OCCing thereafter as I did not OB with them.
The rest is a bit of a haze, but I DoW'ed the Spanish, Germans, Arabians, Moors, Turks and later received a DoW from the Byzantines,
which allowed me to snag the Catholic shrine and some ancient Wonders in Greece.
Later in the game, the Persians respawned (note, respawned, instead of the Iranians spawning) at the same time the Chinese did and at war with the Mongols.
I paid off the Mongols to make peace with the Persians and then I vassalized Persia.
Later, the Ottomans sought a master against Russia, Arabia, Mali, Mongolia & Corea.
Since Arabia was my Defensive Pact partner, I paid them off to make peace with the Ottomans, and then I took up the role of the Ottomans' protector, putting them under my wing and sending a stack over to Russia.
At around the same time, my Trading Company conquerors arrived but I quickly made peace with the Tamils and moved my units north to meet the Mongols.
The Chinese respawned for the second time and for some reason, I got Aomen as the Chinese inflicted some losses on the Mongols and caused their cities to revolt.
China collapsed soon afterwards though, leaving behind a Barbarian Kaifeng guarded by a single Rifleman.
I made peace with the Mongols and beat them to Kaifeng.
Now that I was at peace with Mongolia+Corea, I vassalized Russia and gave them back their cities.
After that, it was just Settler spamming and pumping up my Culture slider during GA.
Game ended with me culture bombing Nice.

I think it can be done faster, I had the pop-limit already from ~1000AD on, but I was expanding very slowly and nobody wanted to become my vasall :(

Anyway, 60 cities, 44% of the worldpopulation, all holy cities and every continent colonized ;)
On Marathon you could probably win around 1200AD by settling Siberia/Mongolia instead of the Americas but since the Mongols spawn stack inside your territory (the "Seljuk stacks") I made peace with them.

In terms of "strategy": I expanded towards Constantinople and India immediately, Persian cities build walls for Seljuks, Baghdad and Damasc produce Camel Archers and Mekka builds the Spiral Minarett & University of Sankore.
Research Sailing, Paper, Engineering (movement and castles) and then I went for Gunpowder but maybe going straight for Drama&Music and stealing Gunpowder from Mughals/Mongols might be better for a quicker victory.
I whipped excessively to keep my overall population down untill the research of Astronomy (1300) and then build settlers and troops for final conquests.
