DocT3 Best Start Ever! (Emperor)

Early: The two units we have will not be able to take Etremont
I didnt expect them to take it since they had no place to heal.. but they did a good job of softening up defenses while waiting for more units to arrive :p

Good job on pretty much taking celts out of the game ;)

Ya, I figured it was the first shipload. We would have been able to take out a normal non-capitol city with them, as I was able to get in 3 successful attacks.

I think we should leave the celts that one city far to the south and then build up our culture so we don't have to worry about flips while keeping the cities.

I did 3 attacks too, loosing just 1 hp on the archer.
I didnt think about going after another city till after I had landed them, and was no reason to pull them back then :)

Had a look at save. Celts will give us both their 2 size 1 cities for peace, but as you said.. prolly best to leave them with the tundra town in south end as capital (or take them out of game).

Our biggest fliprisk city atm is Oea to summerians..

I see france has done some progess in war vs maya.. mayans seem to have lost a core city to france.

I am doing some more extensive testing of tech gold costs, and seems i did I mistake first time.. I compared a non required tech with government to a required tech with nothing.

In reality a tech being required adds 50% to cost, and a government adds 100.1%

UUs add 1% btw, didnt test SS parts yet

IHT: NOthing much to do.
IBT: Japan and Maya Ally versus France.
Turn 1: Rush Temple at Oea to grab a 2nd horse as well as eliminate flip risk. Capture a worker near Celt city in Japan.
Turn 2: Carthage builds Duct starts Galley. Kill a spear at Verulamin.
IBT: Celts land an archer by Entremont.
Turn 3: raze Verulamin. Whack Celt archer.
Turn 4: Utica Palace to Cathedral. Hadrantuem Granary to Market. Move on Gregovia, capturing another Celt worker.
IBT:
Turn 5: Leptis Magna Court to Market, set to grow slowly now. Lose 2 MDI at Gregovia. Japanese start the Knights Templar. KT is started in a size 3 Tundra town.
Turn 6: land another invasion force by Gergovia.
Turn 7: OUr GA ends. I lose an elite MDI at Georgovia and then I raze it. One spear here killed 3 MDI, including an elite.
Turn 8: Sumerians build Sun Tzu's.
Turn 9: Sumerians start Sistene. We are losing money badly.
Turn 10: Japanese are building all 3 wonders, KT, Sistene and Leo's. Ditto Sumeria, Maya. Cancel Alliance vs France. We can trade for Theology from France for Engineering, then trade theology to Korea for invention, leavins us down only Chivalry.

A thoroughly boring set of turns. I accidently let Carthage starve when the GA ended due to riot so it is a size 6 only still. 2 turns of deals with Korea, then I suggest we lay into them hard. I would pull the 2-fer and see how we sit.

Check all civs for deals. I think I caved to Sumeria and attacking Korea might block our route to them.

[Edit: We are giving the Sumeria Silks for 2 more turns. It looks like we might have a route, but I wouldn't risk it. Wait at least 2 turns for the attack.

I think if Sumeria demands again we should refuse and take out the two towns that are on islands we share with Sumeria. We should plan for that eventuallity. Giving them Lux risks our rep and we can guard our towns now.

If we make peace with France we can trade engineering and 49 gold for Theology[Edit: I missed seeing this mentioned on first read through above. I agree with doing it though]. I would do this. We need to keep up in tech. We don't seem to have any MA's vs France.

I think I would make peace with the celts. Tracking down their last city seems difficult. There is possibly a small flip chance with only a single defender (some fraction of a percent per turn), but I would rather take that small risk and concentrate on Korea. The flip chance will drop to 0 as we gain in culture and Celts do not. The total chance of losing a city is pretty small, I think (0.05% per turn or 1/2000 per turn until we get double their culture, or have more culture in the city than they).

Got it. I will do the 2-fer and assess how best to prepare for Korea (or Sumer. if they demand silks).

Status check 600AD
- We have 13 cities, 82G and make +6 gpt. (science is turned off).
- Have 7 workers, 4 slaves, 1 Wa, 2 arch, 1 horse, 1 cat, 3 galleys, 9 NM and 8 MDI.
- At war vs. Celts and France; Korea is up Invention; France is up Theology; Japan, Sumer. and Maya are all up Theol., Chivalry and Invention; Otto. is hopelessly behind. We are avg. vs. Korea, Sumer. and Maya but weak vs. France, Japan and Otto.

Pre-turn:
- Make peace with France, trade Eng. and 49 gold for Theology.
- Trade Theol., 17G and 3 gpt to Korea for Invnetion.
- Trade Invention to France for 92 G (everybody else but Otto. has it already, so I figured they would get it via trade soon anyway).
- Japan, Sumer. and Maya are up Gunpowder and Chiv.
- Set research to Education; hire a scientist in Cumulodunum (temple in 6).
- We now have 108G and +3 gpt.

<Hit enter>

Turn 1 (610AD)
- Celt Wa./Archer team approaches Lugdunum. No trades.
<IBT = nothing.>

Turn 2 (620AD)
- Upgrade Wa. in Hippo to MDI..
- Kill Wa./Archer pari without difficulty.
<IBT: Sumer. archer heades back towards Kisurra.>

- Shuttling forces towards Korean border.
<IBT: Utica cathedral -> MDI.>

Turn 4 (640AD)
- Trade with Sumer.: silks for 11 gpt and 6 G.
- Trade with Japan: silks for 14 gpt and 5 G.
<IBT: Japan battles Sumer. for control of Zabalam (on horse isle). City holds against MDI attack.>

Turn 5 (650AD)
zzz <IBT: Camul. temple -> treb.>

Turn 6 (660AD)
zzz <IBT: Utica MDI -> horse; Kyoto builds Leo’s; Sumer. is building Sistines.>

Turn 7 (670AD)
zzz <IBT: one of our galleys near Hippo sinks attacking Celt galley; Hippo temple -> NM; Maya building KT; Maya building Sistines.>

Turn 8 (680AD)
- Carthage hires scientist to prevent riots; put citizen back to work in Camul.
<IBT: Utica horse -> horse.>

Turn 9 (690AD)
zzz <IBT: Maya and France make peace; Leptis Minor library -> MP; Sabrathra library -> CH; French are building Sistines; Korea is building Sistines.>

Turn 10 (700AD)
- Our forces are in place for action against Korea.
- Upgrade an archer to longbow in Lugdunum.
- An earlier gpt deal must have ended, gpt jumps to +67 (with science slider at 0%); adjust to 60% science, Education in 22 at +6 gpt (194 G total saved). Put citizen back to work in Carthage.

We have enough forces in place to do serious damage to Korea, but there are another 10 turns left on our gpt deal (this was the only way I could trade for Invention). I did not make peace with the Celts because I wanted to be able to recapture if we get any more flips.

We are fortunate that Japan and Sumer. are now at war. I went ahead with the silk trades because there was a good chance they would demand them anyway, and we really needed the gold. It improved their attitudes, and to the extent they are paying us gpt it slows down their science as well.

I think I would prefer to honor our deal with Korea and attack in 10 turns.

We can build up more troops in the mean time. I haven't had a chance to look at the save, so this is based mostly on a desire to play more honorably, than any strategic advantage (other than keeping our rep intact).

I will be at an out of town job interview this weekend, from Thursday evening untill Sunday evening. I will need a swap if I come up in that time frame. Hopefully I score the job, then I will have a lot fewer missed weekends.

Carthage, 700AD

Hm, with 10 turns left on the deal with Korea, I don’t think I’ll :hammer: during my turns. What should I do instead? I’ll try to found some more cities, at least.
Entremont really looks like a good place for the FP, agreed. But obviously it needs to grow first, and Temple + Courthouse before. Maybe even a Duct and Market. Since we surely will use our first MGL for an Army, we shouldn’t count on a leader to rush the FP; better prepare to hand-build it.
I really wonder how on Earth Sumeria managed to build so many wonders with such crappy lands, and I really wonder what future resource Kisurra on our landmass has. I think I’d even prefer a limited war with Gilgamash instead of Wang Kong…but then, we have a deal with him for 14 more turns as well.
Since we’re not gonna fight Korea soon, I rush a Settler in Oea, and switch Hippo (nice name, realy :D ) to worker; I’ll ship some of the Korean forces there.

Hey, do we need Iron atm? Our second source near Leptis Minor will be pulled in in 3 anyway…ship Iron, 6gpt and 124gp to Sumeria for Gunpowder and Dyes. France is the only advanced Civ lacking Gunpowder; get Chivalry and 1gp (all they have) for Gunpowder.
Sumeria, Japan and Mayans have Chemistry.
Nice, we have an already connected source of Saltpetre next to Lugdunum, and another one SW of the volcano near Carthage unconnected (would be in the borders of a city on that single grassland tile).
Sumeria lacks Saltpeter, Japan has it. France and Mayans lack both Horses and Saltpetre (but France has unconnected Horse on the island W of our landmass, and Saltpetre in their core).
Ooc, try to get Chemistry for Saltpetre from Gigamesh, but that’s an insult.

Can shave off a turn from the Library in Theveste by switching tiles with Utica.
Turn off research for one turn, to get a cash reserve again.
Enter.
IBT:
Maya and Sumeria ally against Japan.

Turn 2: 720AD
Sumeria has Education (PP would have been smarter anyway). Completely turn off research, 22 urns at +2gpt isn’t worth it; we will be able to buy it earlier anyway, better start a minimum run on PP ASAP. 60gpt and Saltpetre is already doubtful for Education on monopoly.
IBT:
Japans asks friendly for a small donation of 23gp…cannot resist.

Turn 3: 730AD
Japan is really keen to resettle that rubble N of Hippo. Bet there’s Oil in the Swamps. Settle Cadiz 2 N of Hippo because of that (not a really bad location, 2 fruits).

Turn 5: 750AD
Iron online again.

Turn 7: 770AD
Brennus wants peace – no.
Japan, France and Sumeria have Education. Buy it from France for 150gp and 41gpt. Education, 100gp and 19gpt to Mayans for Chemistry.
 Japan already has Metallurgy.
Hire Scientist in Oea, PP.
IBT:
Lagash completes Sistine

Status reported:
We’re currently shipping 66gpt to other Civs. I simply couldn’t pass on the Iron for Chivalry deal, but after that, no more resource deals with Sumeria. We cannot attack Korea without disrupting our trade route to Gilgamesh.
Japan is up Metallurgy, but that’s all.
Japan is still at war with Mayans, and most likely with Sumeria.
We have a few Knights and Muskets already.
I’m unsure if we should fight Korea or Sumeria next, but that has some time anyway.
Founded two more cities, we should also settle the grassland near Carthage and connect the Saltpetre (though this is risky, Sumeria may demand it), and a city near the Gold S of Cartahge/ E of L. Magna.
Dunno if we should make peace with Brennus, don’t know if he will drop off some trash next to Carthage (we have enough units there, but if his empty Galley sinks ours, Carthage will starve).

The Save

Gyathaar, do you need a skip?

Might be easiest to just skip.. else I will be up in many games when i get back for weekend, plus I want to finish COTM5 then too :P

I have a RL conflict that will prevent me playing until next Wednesday (10/27), so if my turn comes up before then go ahead and skip me.

Preturn:
Looking things over I probably won't go to war on my turn. We have too many long term buildings in the works.
I make only a few minor changes.

Early: We have a Mine on our main deer square? That needs fixing. I will change it to a forest to get the extra shield. (I am hoping someone didn't cut a forest down and replace it with a mine. That move generates negative shields). Not terribly important, but remember you want forests on tundra and not mines.

Mid: Upgrade 2 horse. We don't have sufficient gpt to get any tech. 2 towns built.

Late: Korea has PP, but not Chem so I trade and get some cash as well. A few more troops are moved over to the Korean continent.

Notes:
A quick dull set of turns. Many towns were on projects that started before I got the game and were still going when I ended.

I didn't check deals the last turn, but left that to the last player. The sumerian deal should be running out this turn or next.
