Welcome, to my second NES, DominatrNES II: From Chariots to Corporations. This is a fresh start on the map of our earth. ORDERS DUE: Thursday, January 10, 2013 at 6PM EST

Rules
You are the leader of your civilization and in order to command your civilization, you are to send orders by PM of your wishes. In addition, you can achieve even more by writing stories and really fleshing out your culture.

Orders
Players are to give “orders” to me by PM, outlining where they will be spending points to increase statistics and other operations (declare war, make peace, forge alliance, contact NPC, etc. and what your goals are. If they're reasonable, they might be achieved.) Orders should be formatted a certain way to keep things organized. The format for orders is :

---------------------------------------------
Title: (Civilization Name) Orders- Turn (turn #)

Agriculture- (Points spent)
Military- (Points spent)
Religion- (Points spent)
Research- (Points spent)
Economy- (Points spent)

Other operations, goals, dialogue with NPCs
---------------------------------------------

Diplomacy
Diplomacy is conducted to work together, discuss important matters with other civilizations. Contacting other human players can be done either in the thread or by private messaging them, whichever you prefer. Speaking with NPCs is done by PM, and is to be included in orders as a subsection. The format for diplomacy with NPCs is this:

From: (Your civilization)
To: (Target civilization)

Stories
I highly recommend investing the time in writing a story every once in a while. It develops the lore of the NES and you will see more success if you make contributions. This is primarily a stat based NES, but without the lore, it has no substance, so stories are essential. They do not have to be particularly lengthy or eloquent, but it has to clearly display an honest effort.

Statistics
You have Twenty points to spend on increasing statistics and that number may increase with advancement technologically. When points are spent they do NOT directly increase a stat, but they have the chance to. For example, if 5 points are spent of a stat, it has a 50% chance to increase by 1. If 8 points are spent, it has an 80% chance to increase by 1. If 10 points are spent it has a 100% chance to increase by 1.There are five statistics which you can directly effect:

Population- The central statistic which is not to be overlooked, no matter how much the novelty of other stats cloud your prioritization. A population increase, which has a 10% chance to increase any of the other stats by 1. It is very important to keep Population higher than Military, but less than Treasury in order to prevent upkeep costs and to remain stable.

Military- This statistic influences your ability to wage war and maintain order in your civilization. The value of your Military statistic is used in relation to your enemy's Military statistic to gauge your strength. Having more put in Military than Population will cause a penalty to the Economy. If two civilizations are equally matched militarily, other factors could influence the outcome.

Religion- Religion can be a peaceful alternative to military. If you increase the strength of your religion, it is possible to find followers in other civilizations and it may even cause a religious conversion and award you territory. Be aware, though, not all civilizations will wish to accept your religious beliefs and may try to fight you if you impose them too much.

Research- This statistic measures your technological progression. For every 3 points in Research, a new technology is learned. The advancements progress in a linear fashion. Technology has a huge influence on your success, as a civilization with access to bronze will dominate on the battlefield, and a civilization with a banking system will generate much more income. To see the advances, look at the technology timeline further down the page.

Economy- Essentially, Economy is your earnings per turn. Each turn, your economy value is added to your treasury. (If your treasury is 10 gold and you have an economic value of 3, your treasury the next turn is 13) Your Economy can potentially suffer if Military exceeds Agriculture, due to the need to support troop costs.

Treasury- The only statistic that you can not increase directly through spending points. It is a representation of wealth and riches, and it can be used to bribe other nations into accepting your demands, trading for technologies or land, make peace, forge alliances, give gifts, etc. Later on, with things like banking, the treasury can be used to give out loans and buy more points to spend at beginning of the next turn.

Please note that stats are subject to change in other ways. For instance, after a large war, the population and military stats may take a bit of a hit. All technologies can increase stats in some way as well.

Joining DominatrNES II: From Chariots to Corporations

You must create a civilization in order to join. The civilization must be original, and of your own creation. There is no "fantasy" elements, so keep things realistic, but not actually real. To join, fill this template out:

---------------------------------------------
Nation’s name: (both standard and plural form)
Capital City:
Leader: (Title and name)
City/Province List: (At least 10 names to be used in stories, and on maps)
Societal Structure: (classes, how people live, jobs)
Interesting Information: (Some things that make your civilization unique)
Territory Color: (Optional, it will be your color on the map)
Brief History:
Area on Map: (Follow carefully. You must post an image of the map (or part of the map) directly specifying where you want to place your capital city. The city is to be marked with a dot.
---------------------------------------------

Updates

Each turn, i will post an update summarizing events and post a map that corresponds with the story. I will also update the statistics that can be seen lower on the page. I will update regularly, on a weekly basis. Usually, i tend to request orders by the end of the work week, so i have a lot of time to craft the update on the weekend. Keep in mind that late orders could result in a late update, so please be prompt with them. If you do not send orders, you miss out on spending points, and your civilization is in a vulnerable state.

PLEASE READ: (This pertains to all players joining at the very beginning of the NES. You may quickly reserve a location by posting your submission with just the civilizations name and the map specifying your capital city's location. The rest can be filled out later when you've got time. I know all of you are scrambling to get the spots you wanted in the Pre-thread. Be aware that settling outside of the grey areas can result in isolation, slow trade and advancement, and barbarian danger, so it is advised that you stay in the grey to be in on the main scene.) YOU MAY POST NOW!

FIRST POST!

Will wait to see which areas are interesting before claiming.

EDIT: And yes, this will be the one where slaves literally rule.

Ha! :ninja: Greece on the second post.

Nation’s name: The Anotona League, Anotonians
Capital City: Aecan
Leader: Archon Peteus
Place Names: Uruna, Dephalna, Enoch, Lotuak, Punnis, Barbatan, Ilos (name for Greece)
Societal Structure:The Anotonias have four distinct social classes: Councilmen, Citizens, Commoners, and Slaves. The Councilmen are anyone who is a part of the government of Anotonias which includes actual councilmen, head judges, high ranking officers, and the high priests. Their immediate family are also on their social level but are still called citizens.

The Citizens are the people born in the Aecan region and make up the upper and upper-middle class of Anotona. If a Citizen is male and of age he can attempt to join the government and become a Councilman, but usually only older Citizens become Councilmen. The Citizens enjoy the right to elect their Councilman and serve as the elite soldiers of the Anotonian army. Regions that have been under Anotonian control long enough and have shown good behavior can apply for citizenship of their people. So far only Uruna and Dephalna have obtained full citizenship with Enoch being in the transition stage and thus having only partial citizenship.

The Commoners are the non-citizens of Anotona, they are either recently conquered or their region has been showing resistance to Anotonian rule. The commoners make up, to no one's surprise, the lower and lower-middle class of Anotona. They mostly serve as farmers working hard to feed Anotona's armies and craftsmen. Another common profession is that of a sailor who helps man Anotona's navy in times of war and makes a living serving on merchant ships in times of peace. The Commoners from relatively stable regions make up the bulk of Attica's armies and lifetime service carries the reward of citizenship for their immediate family.

The Slaves are criminals and prisoners of war.

Brief History: When Anotona was first formed it was ruled by the highest ranking general of Aecan who would conquer the surrounding lands and rule with an iron fist. While they attempted to conquer other lands the campaigns were at best temporarily successful and at worst a disaster. This was due to the armies being made up of mostly the disgruntled lower class who were conscripted into service and held no love for the general. Over time certain families began to become wealthier as they transitioned from farming large pieces of land to being landowners who let other people farm their land for them. This became the new aristocracy who would most always be secretly at odds with the general.

After a particularly horrendous failed attempt at conquering Uruna the aristocracy overthrew the general and put in place a council of elected aristocrats that would rule over Aecan. The aristocracy took on the name Citizens and had a lighter rule on the Commoners became more proud of their government. Due to the more democratic nature of Aecan they were able to pick officers and generals partially via merit rather than what family they were from. This allowed for the successful invasion of Thebes after which all Aecans took on the name Citizens and dumped the title of Commoners on the people of Uruna.

Now Anotona has conquered all of Central and western Ilos and have started to expand into Barbatan only to be met with stiff resistance from the people there. However due to their lack of organization the most they can do is harass the armies of Anotona.

I was gunning for German-esque areas.

Color: (bright red)
Capital: The orange dot by the river.

Oh I read the gray areas and my heart SANK LIKE A ROCK IN THE OCEAN. Oh well.

No real life places. I don't want to see familiar names. This is to be original. You can still base things off of other things, but i don't want to see things named The Roman Empire, San Diego, Luxembourg, Attila the Hun, or the Emancipation Proclamation. This is to be entirely of your own creation. Also, be sure to post a map with your submission to properly claim an area.

Renaming is done. Map to come up soon.

Oh I read the gray areas and my heart SANK LIKE A ROCK IN THE OCEAN. WHYYY!

can you come up with a new name? I don't want this NES to be too related to my old NES. Lycia has had it's days, you know? :D

can you come up with a new name? I don't want this NES to be too related to my old NES. Lycia has had it's days, you know? :D

I changed my claims and my name. I hope it is satisfactory?

Sorry, I'm terrible at names. Lycia took me a half hour to come up with, and I'm obsessive over a good name (if it's even slightly wrong, I must endure it for the entire game course).

I will have my history come later, but keep in mind I shall be more of a war-mongering nation, rather than a peaceful trading nation. You have been warned (should you choose to settle near me)!

Nation’s name: Sakhanate of Ajk-Kūta/Kūtamkl
Capital City: Alk-Kahdu
Leader: Sakhan Hanaadikq
City/Province List:
Alk-Arason
Alakho
Alk-Joqkor
Subhalk
Alk-Aakush
Joyu-Nlu
ak-Bibal
ak-Moynlyu
Societal Structure:
Kūtamkl society is divided into several distinct "maki", which are essentially social classes or castes, but are more strict and defined. The Jhindha are the noblemen of the Kūtamkl society. One can only join the elite jhindha maki by birth or marriage. The jhindha are the only people in Kūtamkl who are able to take the position of Sakhan, and they typically find their jobs within legislature or as merchants, which, due to their high standing and influential status, usually lead to a few families dominating the jhindha scene.

The Hokjang, on the other hand, are the professional artisans and craftspeople of the Kūtamkl society. Unlike the jhindha, any person can join the hokjang maki by apprenticing themselves to a master hokjang of their chosen art. It is surprisingly easy to become an apprentice, as most every Hokja [Master Craftsman] is willing to take on an apprentice, or two, or even three, to continue their craft. Hokjang are an interesting class, as they only garner the proper respect for their class. Even a master farmer is more respectable than an apprentice jewel-carver or jeweler.

The worst-respected maki in all of Kūtamkl society are the Srib, the serfs and slaves that are, by Kūtamkl law, allowed to be owned by any hokjang or jhindha, no matter how disrespected they are. However, the srib hold a surprising amount of respect from the Kūtamkl people, due to the fact that they do most of the work in Kūtamkl society. Thus, despite the officially worth-dirt status of the srib, they are treated rather well. Srib are taken by legal decision or prisoners of war.
Interesting Information: Most crimes are punishable by death, and the others are punishable by ridiculously cruel punishments that I won't go into.
Territory Color: That red on the map.
Brief History: The strategic positioning of the city of Alk-Kadhu as a gateway from the Two Rivers into the Great Sea led to the formation of a coalition of several tribes in the area under the Salted Crown of the Sakhan of Alk-Kadhu. From this new coalition, easily the most powerful state in the area, both conquest and diplomacy led to the formation of a new, centralized, state, its lifeblood the rich trade leading straight to the city of Alk-Kadhu.

Nation’s name: Republic of Tartessos (Adj: Tartessian)

Capital City: Tartessos

Leader: Rabban Arganthos

City/Province List: Portus, Mainake, Akra, Gakir, Karene, Attin, Etruria, Dephna, Espanta, Cordabo

Societal Structure (by order of Social Power):
1. Sanhedrinii / Bani - Members of the Sanhedrin (equivalent to Roman Senate). There are 70 members, excluding the Head. All Sanhedrinii are given the honorary title of Ban (Master), while the Head of the Sanhedrin is called the Rabban (Greatest master). The Rabban is elected by the Sanhedrin when the previous one resigns, dies, or is removed from power. The Rabban can only be removed by a Sanhedrin vote. Bans tend to keep their title for life, and it is passed down through family and tend to ll be very wealthy.
2. Divinii - Priests. Many Sanhedrin start out as Divinii who then inherit the title from a family member. Divinii tend to be of Sanhedrin families, and their parents commit them to the gods while they are babies. The Head priest, a.k.a. Ban-Divi, is always a member of the Sanhedrin.
3. Militari - Soldiers. All Militari are citizens of the Republic. Many Sanhedrin start out as Militari who then inherit the title from a family member.
4. Citii - Citizens. They make up the bulk of the population. They are either merchants, fishermen, or farmers.
5. Incitii - Non-citizen freemen. They tend to be merchants.
6. Shatli - Slaves or prisoners-of-war. They are either used as household slaves, farmhands, or (typically) miners in Tartessos' many dangerous mines.

Interesting Information:
The most unique facet of Tartessos is their approach to sexuality, especially homosexuality. It is not only accepted, it is revered in society as the Tartessians consider sex in all its forms divine. Homosexuality, especially between men, is considered more divine since they are engaging in intercourse not for the purpose of having children, but for the sake of pleasure, the ultimate prayer to the gods. If a Divii is a homosexual, they tend to be boosted up the ranks quicker. However, heterosexuality is also considered divine, as the nation could not continue without it.

Territory Color: Gold-Orange or Maroon

Brief History: The city began as a local trading hub for the region, but soon grew into a large center of trade. Ilossian merchants were especially attracted to the Western city, and their culture soon became very prominent in the city. The local gods and the Ilossian ones became intermingled after time making a new unique polytheistic religion. The Tartessians also adopted the Ilossian value of democracy. Recently, Tartessos' armies, led by the wise Rabban Arganthos have been succesful lately, making Tartessos the most powerful state in the region.
