Hello all!

This is my first post :) So sorry if this is sth very obvious...

I've checked all forums regarding civ4 and I haven't found how to calculate dot map values which will provide vital information regarding number of farms
needed to grow city to max population.

I know that there are (very good) beginners guides. In one of them (I think it is Sisiutil strategy guide) there is a small information regarding dot maps.

I know how to prepare dot map technically (for example screenshot + paint)
but I don't understand how to proceed with calculations.

Could you give me an example?

Thanks in advance!

Best regards,
Lukasz

If I'd ever critize any work Sisiutil has done it would be the chapter about Dot Mapping in his strategy guide ;)

Some time ago I started a thread about dot mapping and there are some excellent answers to my questions that should shed some light and make you see that population cap is not the only, or even the most important factor in dot mapping.

Concerning the calculations you speak of, it's nothing more complicated than:

1) at population 20 you can work every tile within a city's fat cross
2) each population requires 2 food
--> 3) to work each tile a city requires food production of 40

Then count how much food does the city produce after its resources are appropriately improved. If that number is 40 or more no additional farms are required to reach population 20; if it's less than 40 you need one extra farm for each missing point of food.

But still, population capacity of 20 is not a requirement for good city location.

Thanks a lot :goodjob:

Thread link provided by you is all I need about dotting. Thanks again!
