Religion system.

Having discovered Druidism. I was then the fist to Theology. I immediately got a message to say 'Christianity has been founded in a distant land'.

Next turn one of my ciites can build the 'Discover Christianity' building. I build it.

Next turn I get a box to say I discover Christianity. But I don't. I get (I think) the Druidism song.....Gaaaah!

Religion advisor still says Christianity founded by an unknown civilisation.

Methinks there be a problem with the logic in the Religion system.......

Can you post a savegame. Maybe the midgame penalties are.... hmmmm challenging.... Keldath ??

your sure you founded christ?
cause basucly,
say you and another civ - civ a for the discucction,
have both a ub that gives christ,

say you got it first - then you are the only one who founded it,
civ a - can still build the christ building, and it will get the christ tech, but wont found the religion -cause you already done it.

from the sounds of what you wrote - another civ got christ,
almost at the same ime you got theology,
then you built the christ building and got the christ tech...but didnt found it - cause you where beat to it by "a distant civ/land".

current me if this wasnt what happened :)

as i wrote, i never got to play bts, and nither my mod,
i sit around weekend, and just mod for 8 hours, so youll be able to play the latest,
that my fun, to see you guys play it.

About religions ... you could make the discover buildings to wonders then they couldn't be done twice. Though with a wonder per city limit of 6, this can be nasty: 1 dioscover wonder, one great shrine, leaves only 4 others.

One think you should remind with wonders is diplo mali. Having a different religion will cause diplomatic troubles. Having more then 7 religions will only increase this trouble.

What you could do is the following:

significantly increase the number of foundable religions (to 14-32) and at the same time decrease the diplo hit to 1/2 or 1/3 of its vanilla size. If possible you could change the religious civics:

- paganism, shamanism, organized religion -> standard diplo hit
- pacifism, syncretism -> halves the diplo hit
- antittheism, theocracy -> doubles diplo hit
- free religion -> no state religion, no diplo hit

Basically anything fanatic concerning religion doubles the diplo hit, while a more tolerant pov halves it, or circumvents it all together.

You must play with Revolution and Dynamic civnames OFF. You also need to check and tune the DCM components. I guess it's not obvious in the first post. Keldath. I think you must put this right up front!

To check and tune the DCM components go to globaldefinesalt in the OL xml folder. My settings are:

Selected (1):

air bombing
battle effects
ranged bombardment
archer bombardment (some say this causes probs - I don't get probs; I love it!)
fighter defense

De-selected (0):

civ customiser
civ changer
stack attack (definitely de-select; still a prob)
opportunity fire (not sure if this is a prob)
active defense (not sure if this is a prob)

Load OL mod. Go to OL main menu and select custom game. De-select revolution and dynamic names.

The nerf of financial has been overdone a bit. 20-25% is ok but it should be on commerce, not on income. As it is now you have to either switch repeatedly from no research to 100% research to get that 20%, or it turns completely useless.

Well, in vanilla financial means you get 1 third commerce on every tile that produces 2 commerce already. For coastal cities this means basically 50% more commerce, which translates directly into 50% more research if you have research at 100%. So vanilla financial means 1 more research per coast and town. This can easily increase your research by almost 50%.

As it is in overlord you get 20% ... but only on income. The full 20% you only get if you set income at 100%, changing your commerce into income. If you do research at 100% ... you get nothing out of that trait.

To give you an example look at my map, the place of London.

London at the start, with 8 base commerce, 1 commerce from the worked city tile ... and lots of unworked surroundings. Lets say we work a coast tile to get agriculture quickly.

In vanilla you'd get 2+1 commerce, translating directly in 18 (8+1+2+1, and 50% from capital) research.
In overlord you get 2 commerce ... and nothing, as you have research at 100%. So its 16.5 research only. The same as non-financial civs.

The same town at size 9 using the sheep, the fish, and all 7 other coast tiles.

In vanilla you'd get 18+9 commerce, with the base you get to a whooping 54 research.
In overlord you'd get 18 commerce from the tiles ... and still nothing. A mere 40.5 research. You get nothing out of the trait.

What you can do once you are running at a deficit (being unable to run 100% research over longer time), is to set research to 0% for some turns, accumulate money, and then run at 100%. But thats a) micromanaging hell AND inefficent.

Now if financial would give 20% on commerce directly (look at the capital, it gives 50% on commerce), then it would be different.

London size 1 would be still at 11 base commerce only, but with a 70% modifier -> 18.7 research.

London size 9 -> 27+70% = 45.9 research.

You see what I'm talking about? 20% on income is worthless most of the time, while 20% on commerce is as valuable as +1 on 2 commerce. If it needs to be nerfed set it to 10% on commerce, thats still more usefull then 20% on income.

well....my first trial was to make the religious buildings as a wonder,
but, once i set a building as a wonder,
i cant set it to be unique building for the nations...so i had to do it the way it is...

i would enlarge the quantity of religions, and i will.

and ill implement your commerence ideas.

Hi Guys,

Well.

Complete CTD block. Can't get past this one. No Python exceptions, no MAF messages. CTD after hitting 'end-of-turn'. Damn! I thought this was a real stable version. Don't know if it's connected with the map or the mod or the add-ons. How do you figure these out ?

I have had the occasional 'random' CTD previously, but a reload always sorted it out. Damn!

i ran more the 1500 turns with aiautoplay, and didnt had a ctd,

what year is the ctd occuer?

i keep reading the revdcm thread - they tracked a few revolution ctd related, and sla ctd relaed,
so that must be the source.

i cant check it cause im to busy right now,
maybe its an art related crash,
when the game closed - did you get a microsoft massge ? or did it just closed?

try to do this,
start agame - without the map,
vhoose 3000 turn game,
do autoai play - ran 3000 turns and if you get a ctd - see if you can reload and continiue,

:)
 
Hang on. Sorry. This is with Bastian-B's GEM map. It's enoooormous! I suspect that it's to do with that. I haven't had a single irretrievable CTD with 'vanilla' OL2 1.6

No messages except for the standard MS dialogue and do you want to send the error file etc.
 
*laugh* Yeah, I thought to use the GEM map as master map and cut down from there as I did fpr vanilla and other mods. Just need the input about resource placement and such.
 
It does my head in. 2Mb+ savegame file and Civ goes awol ! I ain't getting MAF messages but I'll bet it's why I'm getting CTD. The map design looks good. I know I only played some but starting as English on that little island I thought the balance woudn't work out, but it was great. Resources just about right and the game was really cool just pulling me into the European maelstrom. Really pissed when I couldn't get through the crash !!

Let me know how I can help - start as another civ and keep going as long as I can ???
