Double Your Pleasure

Nice mod.

I've been playing the latest vanilla civ version of it and enjoyed trying out the new improvements, wonders, etc.

But I also feel like your hitting some limits here in that there's only a limited range of benefits the editor will allow you to confer. Too many of the new improvements are the same thing, over and over. More gold, More shields, more happy faces, etc.

Thanks again though for the interesting mod.

That's true, there are only so many things we can do with the editor. But the fact that there are a plethora of improvements that are basically the same thing, is also part of our deliberate design. We intend it to be possible to build up a 'super production city', a 'super trade city', 'super science city' etc., but naturally we want that to be at the expense of some other beneficial improvement type, so that for example your super science producing city, has low production, or vice versa.

It's a core design rule, that you shouldn't be able to build everything in each city - preferrably far from it - so you'll have to make a choice with each city, deciding which route will serve the city and your empire best. :)

I would love for you to also fix the colors..Like give each race the same alternate and default colors so I do not have to do it... Arabs black and Zulu dark brown...

A long time ago, Kal-El and I discussed a color overhaul -- giving all 31 civs colors which actually mean something to them such as green for the Arabs as it is the color of islam, red for the english because of "redcoats", etc. In that project, my intent was to have just a single unchanging color for each civ. Like Turner says, though, it is pretty low on the list of priorities and it stalled fairly early on in the "who should get what color?" stage.

As for simply picking one of the current 31 colors for each civ, it's probably a good idea but frankly the issue of civ colors has come up like one time that I can remember from the testers and that was simply an issue of Mali and the Zulu having similar default colors so there was never any reason to make a significant change. For 1.5, you will probably have to make that change yourself, but the original color overhaul project is still on life-support as far as I'm concerned and so down the line this may be implemented.

How about..... now! :)

We have released Patch 1.50x for the Play The World version, and you can download it from our Double Your Pleasure site (no no, it's not what you think... ;) )

Changes include (but are certainly not limited to):

- 7 new civilizations (Ethiopia, Inca, Mali, Polynesia, Siam, Sioux and Tibet)
- about 60 new units and unit artwork.
- lots of new improvements, including some that require specific governments.
- A civilopedia (you've probably forgotten what this is, right?)
- Major changes to governments
- 140x140 & 180x180 earth maps

Thanks to everyone involved, especially our wonderful betatesters. :goodjob:

Is there a mirror site to dl from? This is awfully slow.

Nope, not at the moment, I'm afraid - i'll see if we can find some, as it does seem like the world is trying to download the mod right now :) Sorry about that, our poor little server is probably getting it's back broken right now...

Thank you so much for the version. I can't wait to try it.
However I have one small problem. Because i have dial up and it is 46 MB it is going to take more than 12 hours to download it.
Is there any chance grovel, grovel, please, please that you could split it into smaller chunks or something please.
I am really keen to play it but I can't. Please help.:(

I just don't have a really good way to split it up - the last time we tried, we ended up with a filesplitting utility that required you to re-compile the files on your pc, and I ended up spending lots of time trying to help people with that. :)

My best advice is, go get a download manager, like GetRight which will automatically resume a download from where ever you left off.

I'll see what I can do about splitting up the files, but I can't make any promises, so in the mean time, check that program out. It used to be the best (IMHO) and though it's been a while since I used it, I can't imagine the programmer has infested it with spyware like so many other similar programs.

Thank you for replying. The main problem is I cant tie up the phone lines for that long a period of time. I hope you have success in file splitting.
Thanks again. :)

With GetRight (or a similar download manager) you can simply stop downloading whenever you want to, and resume the download later when you have time again. Or schedule it to download the file during night, redial if it gets disconnected and even shut down the computer when it's done :)

I have a reasonably fast computer....

that said, why is it taking sooooooooo long?!? I downloaded DYP 1.05 in no time earlier. Later I deleted it, and now I'm downloading 1.5 and it said that at 22% done, It'll be over in about 14 hours and 4 minutes....

...help?

I think the puny server at civ3.bernskov.com is breaking down because of the immense popularity of DyP. You should consider it a succes, really ;)

47%

4 hours 49 minutes

Well we're getting there... hopefully it'll finish before crew practice...

Seriously Isak, sites would love the hits they get from hosting a mirror. So why not?

Don't worry, I'm trying hard to find mirror sites right now, so hang in there. :)

85%... 1 hour 28 minutes left... practice begins in half an hour...

and for some reason, instead of going to sleep... my computer shuts itself off....

I better download before it quits...

There is now one mirror up - bad news is, it's at Fileplanet/Gamepsy, so if you're not a subscriber you may have to wait 20-30 minutes before the download begins.

But heck, it's better than nothing ;)

The link is on the PtW Downloads page at the DyP site.
