Double Your Pleasure

Just finished my first DyP game - took me 37 hours, 51 minutes :D This is a truly great mod. They should put the whole thing on the Conquests CD so people with dialup have an easy time getting it.

1.5 that may be the biggest jump in numbering we have seen on any DyP update! I can’t wait!!!

Of course this means that I will have to wait for another slow download. :( Ah well, it’s well worth it. :)

I'm new to all this download and mod stuff, so forgive my ignorance.

This seems great, but will it work for me?

I don't have Play the World, do I need to?

I also read that I need to have installed patch 1.29f, however on the civ3 website it says this patch is for US users only and wont work on any European version. I'm in the UK, hence I can't use it.

Thanks in advance

No, there is a vanilla civ3 version as well. Be advised, though, that vanilla is a little harder to deal with so installing DyP overwrites some standard game files which means you can't easily switch back and forth between DyP and standard rules (or other mods). Of course, once you try DyP you won't want to play anything else anyhow... ;)

I'm fairly sure the vanilla patches worked for all english versions. Regardless, you can download the 1.29f patch from the UK Atari/Infogrames website which definitely should work with the UK version of the game. Welcome to CFC and to DyP :D

I have handled the dual install problem very simply by copying the entire Civ3 install directory and renaming it, then installing DyP in one of the Civ3 directories. I can then easily switch by simply renaming the two top install directories. All it requires is ample disk space.

You guys should think about burning the files on discs and sending them out at cost. It would make it a heck of a lot easier for those of us on dial-up.
I'm afraid we can't do that - lots of copyright issues to be dealt with before such a thing is possible. :(

You see, after your grate mod I just can't play anithing else, it does'nt intresting me anymore( I just don't play any other games for years and now I also can't play even the regular PTW it's not intresting).

PLEASE!!!!
Can't wait any longer!
WE WONT some new technologies and units!( What about limit the rail road( sa far as iknow it's impossible but it is possible to make something instead of it, like the same railroad but it will be completly new with 11 moves for every unit.
I aslo thogut about something that will improve much the game view, it's pretty peases me of that in modern time everithing looks pretty ugly full of rail roads , so why not make some building that well give extre commerce in every squre( insted of the rail road affect) or something like that ?

I disable rr in my games just to unrealistic movements. Plane transports I can see being fast but rr?

I just got it working and its great! Quite a few bugs though, are you aware of them? eg the civilopedia is empty for constitutional monarchy and camels- what are they needed for? There is the odd mention in the civilopedia of new terrain improvements such as outposts and radar towers, but they dont appear in the game

Yes, the Civilopedia is very outdated and so is the DyP site. They (Kal-el, Robo, Isak) said that they will update it all when they get a stable mod going. I'm thinking of 2005 as the date.

We are aware of most bugs but not necessarily all of them. Feel free to post things you find here or at CDG; if you really enjoy finding bugs, be sure to join the test team there so you can help test the betas too ;) I assume you are using version 0.91r; note that the next vanilla version should be released sometime this month. The civilopedia is incomplete in that version but Isak and others have really worked hard on it for the next release and it will be much better; I'm proofreading it myself as we "speak." In that version camels are unused but there are several camel units which use them in the next version. As for the outposts and such, just ignore them. ;) We are using a single civilopedia for both the vanilla and PTW versions so that Isak doesn't go completely insanse and those 3 worker jobs were part of the PTW expansion. We are trying to make little "this only applies to PTW" notes where applicable in the new civilopedia. Glad you enjoy the mod and thanks for the feedback! :D

We are working on it and we will update it all. Before 2005. Actually, we're much closer to a public release than we have been for a long time. At the moment, Isak's time and upcoming vacation are the major showstoppers. But even Isak has got to give priority to other things sometimes ;)

Only been playing DYP for last couple of days so forgive me if this has been covered.

When clicking onto bombard in civilopedia showed quick error message of file not found and closed game.

Of course idiot me was nearing the end of a most triumphant battle when this occurred, but I had not saved game in quite a while.

playing on PTW and 1.04 update

jb, can you be more specific about the text of the "file not found" message? Offhand, it sounds like a pediaicons problem which could be corrected on a game-in-progress, but we'd need the full text to be sure.

Game also crashes when right-clicking on anything in the Improvements list on the city screens.
These crashes only bring up the windows message of
"Civilization3x exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Simple fix for me is to not right-click anymore, but thought you might want to know.

Thanks for all your work

Have you installed the entire 1.04 file, and not just the update? This is weird. . .I know where your error is coming from, but how it's manifesting itself like this is interesting.

I would suggest to d/l the 1.04 full version again (28mb, hope you have broadband or a lot of time on your hands), and then update it to the latest version. This will hopefully fix any problems.

Hey, guys, is there an uninstaller for this? That would be helpfull too. Don't know if it will help out JB tho. . .

Nope, no uninstaller.
Shouldn't be necessary for the PtW version.
For the regular version, I recommend installing in a copy of the Civ3 install directory.

It sounds like your DyP install may be incomplete. Take a look in the folder Scenarios\DyP\Art\Civilopedia\Icons\Units inside your PTW installation folder and see if the file "x_firecannon civpedia lg.pcx" is in there. If it isn't, then your install is incomplete and you should reinstall and/or redownload the Full 1.04x version from http://civ3.bernskov.com/installguide_ptw.asp

That's a known issue with 1.04x and was fixed in the 1.05x update which you can get at the above URL or through this direct link: http://civ3.bernskov.com/dyp.files/Update_DyP_PtW_1.04xTo105x.exe

That's what I thought. Well, installing the 1.04 full over the current shouldn't be a problem. It would also clear this error message up.

I'm curious, JB. . . are you using the version off of the PTW disc? That was was, well, incomplete.

I'm running the 1.04 28mb update. But I did have a lot of trouble with initial installation of PTW. Was something about Win XP and the video drivers (they say). So if I'm the only one having this problem then that's what is causing it, I guess.

But let me try out 1.05, maybe that will take care of it

Thanks

Oh, and to pdescobar
that file is the, but noticed I still have a Double your Pleasure folder as well as DYP.

Do I need to delete the former?
