Donut FTW!

Doughnut.

Who the heck thinks it "doughnut"? Is this an American/British thing? Donut in the US, dougnut across the pond?
Doughnut has always been the correct spelling. It's one of those words corrupted by advertisements like in the name Dunkin Donuts or Tastee Donuts. When I was a child there were places that used both either spelling. Around the age of 10 or so, the places that used "doughnut" had either disappeared or changed their names.

Well it's doughnut in the UK but a few "Donuts" have reared their ugly head anyway.

We should just call them toroids and be done with it. (1-toroids I suppose to accurately describe the genus EDIT: and to distinguish them from 3-toroids, the new name for pretzels).

Exactly, even in the USA, 'doughnut' is the correct spelling. The spelling was corrupted by advertisements like you said, Phlegmak.

Hemroids? Is that American for haemorrhoids?

krispy kream. what ever those.

Crap, I want krispy kream now.

"Doughnut" is a delicious breakfast food, while "Donut" is an automotive stunt best performed in a dirt parking lot.

Doughnut, I suppose. Both of them are ultimately fine with me. I'm usually more concerned with the quality of the pastry than with the way the maker chooses to represent it. :D

Oh, and I also usually spell it "variant," not "varient." ;)

Doughnuts for breakfast!?!? Are you insane? Have them for elevenses with a nice cup of tea.

Huh? What happened to decimate? Apart from the meaning of it has changed (from 1/10th dies to nearly everyone dies of course).

It's "come out" of it a bit better than "gay" though I think.

On the subject of words that have had their meanings changed, you never see any proper geeks around these days (as in, a circus act performer who bites the heads off of live animals).
