But Susie Dent helps compile the OED so she writes dictionaries too... If she were here I would get her to spank me (in a non-sexist way of course) and she could pretend it were you whom she was spanking.

A little ambiguity? Surely something is ambiguous, or it is not. We are going off-topic now though. Next time I visit my slightly pregnant sister I will ask her.

Doughnut if you want to be correct.

EDIT: Never mind, I am too tired to make any sense.

I am a corporate whore. I was brainwashed by Dunkin Donuts to use 'Donut'.

I'm used to donut (I've taken to calling the NYPD in Southeast Brooklyn the "Donut Patrol"), but I'm good with doughnut as well.

Because language, like spelling, is ultimately arbitrary.

Precisely! Just look at notes from the Constitutional Convention to see people's names and words spelled differently on the same page!

I could dismiss your argument but I feel no need for floccinaucinihilipilification at this moment in time.

I like doughnut but am not bothered by donut.

Apparently the spell checked in Firefox doesn't like doughnut, though...

According to my spell checker in Firefox, donut is not found but doughnut is acceptable, but I am using an Australian dictionary though. :D That is the way I voted, the Australian acceptable version. I am wondering would Donut King sue a company that is called Doughnut King?
