Doviello+

So, what do you think of the Duel system?
It's nice. However, I'm not using it that much... I always say to myself: why wasting a unit for some XP points? I may be wrong in assuming that. I did use them in order to prepare a small contingent in order to take down a city. I think it's very useful but I may not use it well :p

What portrait do you change it to? The original?
This one: http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/4876/humanbarbarianchick.jpg. I think it fits greatly. I was a bit concerned with the blonde hair but I think it's right.

True, you are losing a unit... However, the surviving unit gets experience, and with the xp system in going from 2 units to 1 with half of the other's xp is actually a good thing... Your new units will start off even better. :p

Actually, seeing as the Doviello are basically Nordic barbarians blonde hair fits. I'd be tempted to use it if I knew how to generate the popup images.

I'll try that in my current game :p I just killed Orthus, which is always cool for waring!

You mean with the sort of border effect? I've made popup images without it... because I don't know how to do it either  But I do have the picture and button ready and in use in Orbis. I forgot the popup...

So, I officially hate modular loading... Since Lycanthropic is now a prereqOR for Cannibalize along with Undead, the entire promotion file can no longer be modular.

Okay, time for some settled Features...

  1. Mahala is now Neutral.
Decided that I like it. She's very close to evil through BA, and as she was already on the Evil-Neutral border, it's only a change of 20 points. Just doesn't seem 'evil' to me, especially after rereading her pedia entry.
    1. Most likely going to make her Financial/Ingenuity/Raiders. If any traits change, it'll probably be Ingenuity.
  2. Baron Duin Halfmorn is now a Doviello leader.
    1. Agnostic/Lycanthropic
    2. Very evil, much further down than Charadon... And as he's agnostic, I don't think he'll EVER climb out of that well. :p
    3. So long as Duin is in game and alive, he cannot be built by any civ, meaning Duin can NEVER build himself.
    4. Lycanthropic grants the Lycanthrope promotion, increasing movement by 1 and allowing Cannibalize with combat 2, same as Undead.
    5. Duin will recieve a Beastmaster UU, basically a Greater Werewolf. Must be upgraded from a powerful unit.
  3. Lucian gains a cheap version of Hero... Need a name for it still.
    1. Free xp up to 50, rather than 100. Not sure whether or not to allow Heroic Strength/Defense

I believe there were a few more things but I can't remember them.

Thought I'd post these:
  1. Duin's favourite civic is Slavery. Forgot to mention that... Almost made it Sacrifice the Weak, but he's agnostic.
  2. New 'Challenger' icon, so the duel spell won't show the Enraged promotion anymore... Still the same icon, just has an effect applied to it.
  3. Lucian gains "Heroic"
    • Heroic Promotion:
      • 0.5 experience per turn, to a max of 50.
      • 10% chance to avoid bad lair results. (Hero has 25%)
      • 10% chance to resist spells. (Hero is 20%)
      • Allows Heroic Strength/Defense 1, does NOT allow the second level.

I'm loving the Photoshop effects, btw. Finally caved in and grabbed a copy.

That's actually what I'd like to do, but I'm not sure how difficult it would be.

Going to try <PromotionExcludes/>, see if that takes care of it.

Edit: And yes, it is just that easy. Had to shuffle the Heroic Strength/Defense prereqs around in the file a bit, but there's no difference in game other than being able to have either Hero OR Heroic for Heroic Strength/Defense 1. 2 still requires only Hero.

I don't like the name Heroic.

How about "Accomplished Warrior" instead.

Also, is Lycanthropic enough of a trait for duin? perhaps he should have Aggressive or Raiders or Warlord. something like that.

Honestly, neither do I. It's just the working title.

Accomplished Warrior could work, but it doesn't seem Barbaric... Warlord is too much, though. I'd be tempted to call it 'Pack Leader' if not for the fact that he already has that promotion... It's an effect promo that just sets his name to Lucian. I'm guessing it's so that as he upgrades, he keeps his name and artwork?

It doesn't have to seem barbaric. Hero isn't particularly evil, but many evil world units get it. It's just a generic thing to designate a powerful unit.

Accomplished Warrior would be similarly generic. And less important than hero, which suits it.

Actually, making it generic is why I originally went with Heroic. Want to leave it open for other minor heroes. Accomplished Warrior is too bulky.. Maybe just Accomplished.

Also, I'd say go ahead and allow capturing of metal weapons and enchanted blade promo.

Working on that once Duin is done, actually. Just need to put in his Beastmaster UU.... Other than that he's done.

The exposed midriff is impractical, and pure fanservice. It's very out of character.

I'd have to say I dislike it for that reason.

Less fanservicey than what I currently have, actually. I just don't like the vanilla picture for her.

I thoroughly agree that her default pic leaves a lot to be desired. I never even knew she was female until magister mentioned it.

But unecessary exposed skin is a definite no, when you live in a frozen wasteland. It's rather immersion breaking.
Perhaps a better one could be found. *consults google*

Edit: Nope, it looks like every artist in existence can't resist the opportunity to draw bewbs and exposed skin. I can't find female warriors wearing anything remotely practical.

If you find a good one, post a link and I'll see if I can use it. :goodjob: Currently using this from Orbis... Immensely better than the manly pic she had before, but I agree about the exposed skin. I just don't want her to look like a man.... :crazyeye:

Ok, I'd say the one opera posted is significantly better than that. The short hair has a more practical look, and she's wearing fur and a huge claw, which is very doviello.

I'd say go with humanbarbarianchick.jpg until something better is found.

Perhaps you could even crop it just above the belly, so the bare patches aren't showing. Then it'd be perfect.
Edit: nope, that doesn't look good actually. But I'll see if I can do some photoshopping in general

Is it obvious what I've done?

I tried to emulate the natural shadowing, and not make it too noticeable.

.dds version attached to this post. Feel free to use if you find it satisfactory.

It's as you like. This little fanservice doesn't displease me (quite the opposite, I think it's kinda cute even if hard to maintain in cold lands :p). It's still way less than many other pictures I found. I'll try to find anything better or ask somewhere if it's possible to have the belly covered (although WarKirby version is okay). I've attached my dds version and a button (this one can be used without modifications).

WarKirby: It's not that obvious but it still has very curvy body lines. Especially when compared with the rest of the armor. A stretched effect on the middle and a bit of loose somewhere would do the trick, I think. I'll see if I can have it modified.

Valkrionn: What about Champion or General for the promotion? Or Veteran?

I'm glad to see Mahala neutral :goodjob:

I like Champion for the promotion. Or Veteran. My vote goes to either of those.

Although I'd say champion has more prestige than veteran
