My God was Thomas Jefferson was lazy. He makes pretty extraordinary claims here, and he should provide and extraordinary argument, but no. He didn't even bother to provide any meaningful argument at all. He just say that it's so.

This statement is an oversimplification at best. While the issue of whether new incoming states were allowed to become "slave states" was an important issue (because having more slave states than nonslave states upset the delicate balance in the antebellum senate), it's not the overall issue*. The Civil War was fought for a number of reasons - economic, cultural, political, ideological-- let's leave it at that.
*: Although I am not entirely sure this is what you're talking about. And if not, then that statement is completely wrong.
