Down With The British!

Yes actually they did. But I don't really expect you to admit it. I bet you still think the war was to free slaves.....

No. The war was fought to stop the forced spread of slavery. Though I don't expect you to admit to anything that's true.

Y'all have a great day! I'm off to my brother's to blow up large sections of the rural area around Truman Lake, eat barbeque, and have some whiskey! :D

The Civil War was 150 years ago. The devil worshiping traitorous slave owners lost. Get over it already. :p

No. The war was fought to keep a bunch of rednecks from making asses of themselves by seceding from the greatest nation on Earth.

Firstly, I'm with Jeremy Clarkson on cricket, it is just not as fun to watch as baseball, or paint dry. Secondly Rule Brittania! Seriously though, have a great independance day.

Despite being a foreigner, I'm pretty comfortable in saying that that is much as a myth as saying that the allies fought WWII to end the holocaust.

This statement is an oversimplification at best. While the issue of whether new incoming states were allowed to become "slave states" was an important issue (because having more slave states than nonslave states upset the delicate balance in the antebellum senate), it's not the overall issue*. The Civil War was fought for a number of reasons - economic, cultural, political, ideological-- let's leave it at that.

*: Although I am not entirely sure this is what you're talking about. And if not, then that statement is completely wrong.

Well, I had a kick-butt time at my brother's! Suki discovered ponds and got gloriously dirty, which means a few hours for me to clean my car on Sunday, but that's okay. :D

Hope everybody has had a safe and glorious Independence Day!!!

Paragraphs are your friend, Mr. Jefferson

I think in my next term paper I will constantly substitute underscores for paragraph breaks, and, upon being questioned about it, declare that I taught myself grammar by repeatedly reading the Declaration of Independence, and if he has an issue with it, he can speak with my mentor, address, Monticello, VA.

Happy independence day, Americans!

(people from CA are simply not Americans)

My God was Thomas Jefferson was lazy. He makes pretty extraordinary claims here, and he should provide and extraordinary argument, but no. He didn't even bother to provide any meaningful argument at all. He just say that it's so.

You really don't know what self-evident means, do you? You're grasping at straws in an attempt to burst someone's bubble. Stop it.

To simplify, without the issue of slavery there is simply no reason to suspect there would have been a Civil War.
