Dr.NES - The D.O.O.M. Project

OOC: It is nothing against me as a NESer... my character is very... well lets just say he likes to have the attention he deserves. It is all in the game... frankly I could care less. As long as we all agree on one thing. But like I said.. my character is not as understanding as I am. :)

Sarge gets up and grunts... "Well no matter, my trusty M4 will handle anything that comes our way. Where is O'Neil? I want to get underway."

PMsing everybody the information would take too much time. Putting it in spoilers in the update works better.

@Vertinari: have you read what I said?

Also, Chand is right now checking all of our comments and the update 0. He might be about to post his opinion on the matter.

Which one of my comments are you referring to? I have made a few. According to the front page the bodies were not killed in a manner that suggests this was a rational killing and that is was probably not done with a gun or explosion. While knifes and machetes can leave messy, serrated wounds they do not achieve that I-just-got-ripped-apart look very well. If you have more information please state it clearly for the rest of us.

Emmanuel Valentine:

"I read you. Give me one moment to bring up the information."

... a few minutes later ...

"Alright, I have your information. This was provided by the Brazilian government, and many of you have voiced suspicion about those officials, so interpret it as you think reasonable."

Transmisions recieved, by date and time:
13 August, 2013: 2053 hours: routine, evening roll call recieved via radio; no difficulties stated.
14 August, 2013: 0630 hours: routine, morning roll call recieved via radio; no difficulties stated.
14 August, 2013: 2035 hours: routine, evening roll call recieved via radio; 'breakthrough' discovered; requested termination of the mission.
15 August, 2013: Morning: No signals recieved.
15 August, 2013: Evening: No signals recieved.
16 August, 2013: Morning: No signals recieved.
16 August, 2013: Evening: No signals recieved.

look down another post. Sorry. Damn glitch.

The radio messages indicate a possible disease that is fast and deadly. Since they used the word "breakthrough". It could not be an animal or human... though it is still a distinct possibility.

I was talking about when my character says that the bodies seem to have been cut quite cleanly in most cases, based on the photographs.

Damn, double double post .

"As for the "breakthrough", it could mean anything. However, the thesis of a disease sounds quite likely to be one of the causes of it. Perhaps the cause of this outbreak might be a virus or bacteria that somehow might affect the human or the animal mind and cause the extreme bouts of violence that have ripped so many people (OOC: Think of 28 Days Later). The fact that the flux of information stops between 14 August and 15 August adds to my suspicions that the Brazilian government knows more than they say about this matter."

EDIT: I made some changes to the first comment Niki makes after the mission has been described.

"Some were merely bloody; others were completely torn apart. The sight’s disturbing atmosphere was compounded by the horrible stench of the dead. Some of the bodies had been eaten; others were left to rot, their grotesque positions paying tribute to their horrible, violent deaths."

How does this suggest a clean kill with a knife?

"May I suggest that we that we disembark at village A to get a look for ourselves of the victims and one of the attack sites before we sail on to the old mission to establish a base of operations. Perhaps bring a specimen to our base so the medics can analyze it along the way."

Ruben takes a long time to look over the map. Though his eyes are fixed on the map itself, he occasionally looks up thoughtfully in response to his squad mates' statements. Finally, he interjects his own opinion.

"The mission is a good starting point. I wouldn't be surprised if it had been abandoned since these attacks began, but regardless, it should make for a secure base of operations. I've got an uneasy feeling about slogging through the marsh as well, but we should be able to skirt it in this boat. In any case, we'll be passing there in broad daylight, with everone together and alert.

"As to the threat we're facing, we shouldn't make any assumptions at all. We're here because none of the usual assumptions seem to fit. Maybe it's wild animals, and maybe it's crazy militants, and maybe it's something else entirely, so we need to be ready for all of that and then some.

"We'll set up our base at the mission tonight. Tomorrow, we can take a look at Village B, a location we've confirmed has been attacked. It's a short hike from the mission. Once we gather some information there, we can decide on our next move. Until then, keep a close eye on the riverbanks, and make sure you've got all the equipment you need."

What if we run into trouble there forcing us to move quickly away and not give us time to establish a base in which I could use my rapid fire machine gun position to keep predators and killers at bay.

"I believe this could be dangerous, and probably not beneficial. We don't want to get sick handeling dead bodies, even more so since we aren't 100% sure what's going on. I believe we should establish a base at the old mission, and then visit Village B and the surrounding area with extreme caution."

"Perhaps we should stand in a middle point: landing might be quite dangerous, of course, but we can still look at the village from the boat in order to have a first look at the matter, even if it is through a scope or with binoculars."

"Good idea. What should we do if I spot any potential hostiles? Shoot?"

No Einstein! Let it kill you.

We can observe Village A from the boat then Village B on foot.
