I had my first dream ever that I killed someone. The person (my dreams are almost always strangers -everyone in this dream was a stranger except a brief appearence at the end, which had nothing to do with the rest of the dream) was treatening someone else (we were in the old west and I was with a non-criminal posse getting ready for some time in the field). So this guy was threatening someone with a gun and I took the gun from him but then he drew 2 more at me and I drew and shot him. I've never had a gun work in a dream before. They always fail and I'm forced to outsmart my threat. It's the closest thing I've had to a nightmare in a long time. Really shook me.

I've no idea what to make of my western dream. I hope the sheriff doesn't continue to haunt me/try to cuff me and take me to the judge in the everglades.

Let's tell and discuss dreams, any context. Personally, I don't think mainstream, mass-produced explainations are valid. I think the same image/course of events can mean something entirely different for different people. Or is there common symbolism, to what extent

I think the real value is to enjoy dreams. To try to understand/explain them is rather a waste of effort.

Do you think there are things that mean the same thing for everyone... like X image = X, etc. Or that events mean common experiences/tribulations?

Like the teeth falling out thing... Stress, feeling loss or need to see the dentist?

Does anyone here physically record their dreams? I read a book written by Patricia Garfield who claimed in it to wake and write, in the dark, 3-5 times per night to record vivid and lucid dreams. She found correlation and causation in repetitive images and events to discern meaning. That seems a bit over-the-top to me.

You'd probably only get a mass produced answer here. Speaking for myself I don't know you well enough to say, oh that dream probably refers to this that is going on in your life.

I can usually rely on the woman to tell me what I've been dreaming about. I talk in my sleep a lot, and she can usually tell what is going on from that. So any dirty dreams, and I'm busted. I have to have my wits about me and say, of course it was about you.

Lately I have been dreaming about going out in a blaze of glory. I'll get shot up by the cops with my double machine guns just firing straight into the air after robing a bank. I've been dreaming lately about a heist of some sort in my dreams. I always die after my plans are foiled by some cop. Always though, in a blaze of glory moment.

I may just not be clever enough to figure out the meaning but I've taken the same approach you have, which is just to enjoy them as I would a movie.

I don't usually remember my dreams, even when I've attempted to keep dream diaries in the past. I get vague ideas of what I've dreamt about though. If I'm really flat-out at uni or with something else I'll often dream about it, giving me the impression upon waking that I've already been to my Wednesday classes, and what the hell is going on?

I've never had the stereotypical "Oh no, I'm naked" dreams or the like, at least not that I remember. Plenty of dreams involving women though, whcih we won't go into here.

I had a nightmare that my boyfriend's family had me backed into a corner and were yelling all kinds of insults at me, and in the background the guys from 1776 were singing their agreement. (Think But Mr. Adams- style). Not a fun night.

I had a wet dream that I was the pilot of a F-18 fighter plane over Belgrade in 1999.

I am consistently killed in my dreams, killing others, or engaged in fights with other. I've been killed practically every way I can think of.

Just recently I was choked to death and thrown into a lake. Yesterday night I was in a sword battle with someone who had long fencing swords meanwhile I was armed with a spatula, and they stabbed through my left hand.

Quite often I get sniped walking down the street of my old elementary school. Sometimes I fall to my death down a deep hole.

A week before that I was the passenger in a late 80s Dodge Ram moving at high speeds that slammed on its brakes, causing a man coming in the opposite direction in a Plymouth Cuda to swerve to avoid us. He subsequently rolled his vehicle over the edge of a deep embankment and was thrown to his death from the vehicle. When I ran down to look to see if he was still alive, and he wasn't, I decided I needed to get the hell out of there and limped to a hospital in Maryland because for some reason my left leg was broken and I had to drag it.

I once got my head cut off with a pocket comb. I've also beaten people to death a couple times in my dreams. Those dreams are pretty disturbing, actually... in them I feel enormous amounts of rage, and lash out violently and can't contain any of my anger. In real life, I'm a very very chill person, never get angry, so maybe my body just "dumps" all the raw emotion in a safe place? (what happens in my dreams doesn't actually harm anyone, as opposed to real life)

I mean, its not only anger. Sometimes I wake up sobbing uncontrollably with sorrow or joy, or I'll wake up with the memory of seeing something so beautiful that it broke my heart, but I can't remember what exactly.

I generally have really weird, esoteric dreams (I mean, crazy crazy stuff that I don't even know how my brain thought up), strongly narrative dreams (telling a very long and complex story), or lucid dreams.

1) The weird dreams are CRAZY. They've got bits from computer games I played as a child, a lot of times my sister turns into a turtle at random parts, once I had a dream that covered 10,000,000 years! I remember leading a group of people into my computer, which was actually a massive valley surrounded by mountains on all sides. We lived there for several million years, and there was this growing threat of some spidery presence living in the mountain passes... it went on and on and on, and I eventually woke up when my nation was settling this asteroid. It was like a dream version of Civilization, and my brain felt like I had lived many lifetimes. (though I can't remember much content, I *feel* like I experienced it nonetheless) I have dreams like that maybe 4 or 5 times a year, though they're all radically different.

2) the narrative dreams are the ones I feel very strong emotions in, and they're usually pretty realistic, with people I know in real life, real places, etc. Though there's usually some fantasy element as well. They can be anything from love stories to James Bond like action stories.

3) the lucid dreams I'm in some way aware that I'm dreaming. It usually starts off as a narrative (though most of my lucid dreams are nightmares, strangely :(), but it gets all confused. One thing I do a lot is if something bad happens, I just go back and change events in the dream, and move around in the dream time line.

Probably the most distinctive thing in these dreams is that I have no sense of time or sequence, I just jump from moment to moment, forward or backwards, and by the end, they get really muddled and don't make sense after I wake up.

I'm always eager to see what other people dream about... it's the strangest, most unpredictable and unknowable part of the human experience, IMO.

Do you sleepwalk or talk in your sleep?

When I was a kid I sleep walked a lot. I don't anymore, but I tend to talk in my sleep and laugh in my sleep still. If I fall asleep around people and wake up usually its following laughter or something I was saying in my sleep but I've been told it really just comes out as nonsensical ramble or weird sounds.

I had the most awesome historical dream.

The year 1916 Berlin Germany and I was a German soldier fighting on the front lines. For some reason the front line was in Berlin clearly the war had not gone well. The trenches were a road over from the Reichstag and suddenly I discovered a breakthrough that would win the war for us gloriously poison gas. Mustard and chlorine specifically. So I went to Reichstag and met with Hindenburg inside and I told him we should the gas on the allies to crush them and win the war. He told me no that the rules of war did not allow it. I told him this was a new technology had no rules governing its usage yet. He told me regardless the rules of war must be followed. So I went back to the front line and shouted "Hindenburg has betrayed us! He has betrayed Germany!" and gathered a group of soldiers and we went to the Reichstag and overthrew Hindenburg.

Then my dream ended. I wonder if Germany won the war.

I posted this in the rave thread. Deutschland über alles

I constantly have dreams that start out like a normal day of school, then some psychotic criminal attacks the school or something will just spontaneously explode (happened to my pen in a dream and the next day, it broke). When a criminal attacks, there's always someone (sometimes me) who organizes a small militia and we somehow beat him.

I also always run really slow in my dreams, but I'm not running from anything, I'm just running for no reason.

Nothing, except how one spends 1/3 of thier life.

Thus, I'm not into meaning. I'm into enjoying, going lucid and generally making that 3rd of my life exist positively for myself. I think it's a shame to waste a 3rd of one's life in darkness and nightmare.

Eco, try some DMT and you could be spending all your time in dreamland.

That's ok, 1/3rd of my life is plenty for dreamland. I don't really want more, I just don't want to waste it.

Last night I had a dream about a white squirrel that had rabbies. It was freaking out in the tree so we tried to capture it in a cage, which worked but we didn't put a lock on the cage so it broke loose in a fury and started attacking us. When it ran at me I stomped on the back of it with my boot and blood squirted everywhere but somehow it was still alive dragging itself towards us.

This dream followed one where Carrot Top was held up in a house with a gun after dissing R Kelly who wanted to kill him, but the cops came and arrested him. I was helping Carrot Top escape from R Kelly.

I had a dream that we could teleport into other solar systems. I watched as a small space craft went into an clear tunnel like thing (this was apparently in a nebula). It was strangely disturbing to see them crash on a planet, a rock one, at the end of the tunnel thing.

I was sitting on a Sunny, grassy hill inside a sort of hogwarts/Princeton looking giant bookstore/library with two of my friends, a guy and a girl. After a while, Amber, the girl left, to go into the bookstore, and Ben, the guy, and me sat on the hill waiting for her to return. Soon, though, we decided that the only thing to be done was to follow her inside to find her.
as we wandered, looking, we got the impression that something was following us, hunting, so we started running and hiding, and got separated. As far as I remember, the end was with me hiding somewhere, with a profound feeling of loss.

Kill the hunters. Or make friends and acquire a physical gift. You must confront them, if only to bear witness. I project force and move fast to be safe and win usually. When you are not hunted, you can swim (and breath underwater) and fly.

Any kind of interpretation just seems like a horoscope, or a fortune cookie. I think you really have to search to get any meaning, and then if you can manage to come up with something it's probably a reach.

I once had a dream where my friend transformed into a Werewolf and ate my sister alive. :D

...I frequently have zombie dreams as well. Yay for the zombie apocalypse?

Just recently, I had a dream where my 5 foot Shadow plush came to life and started talking... I forget what he said in it though. T.T

Years ago, I had a dream where my sister fused with Chucky. It was possibly the most scary thing imaginable and why I remember it to this day.
