Why there is such hatedom is because of empty promises from the developers of Duke Nukem who constantly say "DUKE NUKEM FOREVER IS COMMING!", months later past its never released. It's vaporware with numerous empty promises of being releaced
Source Modders would have gotten that done by now if TF2 was doomed to never been released. I don't remember seeing TF2 having numerous release dates tossed out for years. Then again it's Valve were talking about with Valve Time. Not Duke Nukem Forever Time.

So many childhood games of mine got remade (or got sequels) sorta recently. And most of the remakes were either some commercial average crap or just sucked. It's kinda hard seeing great franchises ending up to be crap games.
That's why i'm pessimistic about such things.
I kind of agree. At this point, a company must almost be punished for such ridiculousness. Blizzard is almost as guilty, announcing games way in advance. It's not the same, since the game never really becomes vaporware in the case of Blizzard, but it's just ridiculous to make it appear that a game is so close to being finished yet take 4 more years to have it come out. My interest in Starcraft 2 completely died like 2-3 years ago. Hopefully they can release Diablo 3 before this happens to me again, but seriously, the last major update to their Diablo 3 website was like over a year ago... For a huge title that they've retardedly decided to annoy me about first time like 2 years ago. It's almost disrespectful to lodge themselves into my brain for so many years. I have other things to do with my brain cells. They can't just get free rent in there like that, it's brain spam.

Then they delayed it another two years and, by the time it did finally come out, it had been stripped down to something so childish it was practically unrecognisable..

I don't have bad feelings about character-development or anything. Duke is a simple character, really.
What I'm worried about is that he's somewhat officially not appeared in anything these days except random internet-parodies, and though I've enjoyed his old games in the past (especially the first one), I don't know if they can live up to it now if they single-handly try to make this, despite their efforts seemingly failing, or despite that they haven't even made a Nukem game before "now".
If it's about, I'd look forward to it though. Time to Kill for PsX was an old favorite of mine.

Hate to be cynical, I mean I grew up with Duke 3D as well, but if it does release, itll be another overhyped yet terrible game.

I personally think it would be really cool for the most legendary vaporware of all time to finally get published. What would make it mega-cool is if the game actually turned out great!!
Seriously, just because it takes a long time for a game to be developed and/or released doesnt make it bad. Take SC2 for instance. Awesome sequel, and very, very well done.

To quoth the many people round the world. Duke Nukem Forever IS vaporware. It's even won numerous vaporware awards many MANY times it's not even funny.
It does not need to take an ENTIRE DECADE to develop and release a game! Seriously, if it takes a long time for a game to be developed from the first time it was mentioned, It will make people lose intestet. Ever heard of the boy who cried wolf? The developers of DNF were crying wolf for the what past YEARS and have nothing to show for it?
I'm sorry, I'm not being pessimistic, I'm being realistic here.

It kinda did. RE4 and 5 are barely in the same universe as the early titles, so one could easily say RE's dead, and a new franchise has begun with RE influence (and a few characters, though largely changed. I'm looking at you "Jill" from RE5), only done in more of an action-based way rather than the original franchise's survival horror theme.

No, its not needed, but sometimes thats just how things happen. No one is saying they needed a decade to do it, but it took a decade to do it. Thats not quite the same thing.
Which is only going to add to the hype and interest when it does get released.
As long as your still being a realist if the game gets put on storeshelves we are ok.

The game will still be (barely I assume because it was well-demoed at E3 and I expect Gearbox to release more videos and Q&As) vapourware until it hits the store shelves and people are playing it.

So everyone who has purchased Borderlands GOTY Edition and/or Borderlands on Steam has received a CD key for early access to Duke Nukem Forever (on Steam its under the Borderland's DLC CD keys).
