Dune Wars

I continue to love the work done in this mod as I play , I did notice that the grenade troopers dont seem to be doing col. damage unless I missed something.

@wolfieberserker: Thanks for the feedback. I'm not 100%, but I suspect this may relate to the following bug that davidlallen has apparently fixed on his local copy of the mod. I'm hoping he will release the files soon.

Thanks for the reply. This does make sense. I am certain that my machine is solid, being only few months old, and because I have run diagnostics on the major components. I would like to have gotten a faster memory card, but a 13" machine limited me on what was available; I have noticed some graphics degradation at times, but nothing that has caused a hang. Simply minimizing and maximizing the window clears most ill effects right up and crashes caused by stack movement always allow for reinitialization and continued game play.

The only other time I have noticed the hang issue was in Total Realism 2.3. That forum also had a few posts that discussed it, but a solution was not offered. The TR team opted for a complete rewrite instead (v2.4, which I am downloading as we speak). Otherwise, I have played many hours of various mods on Huge maps without a hang. This leads me to believe that it is local to the mod files, as well. I am glad davidlallen was able to pinpoint a possible source, it sounds hopeful.

I look forward to the patch for this so I can get on with decimating some Harkonnens!

Thanks again!

Fantastic MOD (makes me want to go back and re-read the novels!) but I have encountered a crash on a couple of games and hope someone might have some ideas.

I am currently playing as the Odos and I have traded items so that I can build Reverand Mothers. I moved one into a city that is slowing being taken over by my culture but I wanted to move things along so I tried to annex the city.

I select this option, the program "thinks" for a few seconds and then Civ 4 crashes.

Anyone else encounter this? I was able to annex a city the first time I found this option but since then, the game always crashes if I try it.

Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback! Which exact version are you using? If you don't have the installation file you used, you can tell by looking in the configuration screen. In game, hit ctrl-alt-o, which brings up a multi-tabbed configuration screen. Select the "system" tab, and the Dune Wars version number will show at the upper right.

Is it possible for you to post a save-game from right before this happens? You can attach it to a post. If it is a large file, you might zip it first. If we can see the problem, we can probably fix it.

Thanks for your help davidallen. Sorry, I should have told you that I was using version 1.73 of the MOD and the latest patches for Civ irself at the time of the crash. I am also running under Win 7 64-bit.
I do have a saved game but even zipped it is over 1.3 Mb.
I notice that version 1.8 has just been released so let me try a game in this version to see if I can reproduce the crash before you guys waste your time on a bug that might not exist anymore. ;)
Thanks again for your help and for the incredible MOD!

The 1.8.0.1 patch for Dune Wars 1.8 is available here. This adds a number of new features to the mod and fixes a couple of bugs.

After installing 1.8 i spot a bug: when begin a new game, all civilizations start in one place, or on a single island at least.(dune archipelago map)

That is very strange. Many other people have used 1.8 and have been able to start a game normally. What are the exact game options you are using, such as map size, number of civilizations, etc? Does this problem happen only once, or does it happen every time? If it happens every time, please upload a save-game so that we can see the problem.

:cry:Download link on patch doen't work!  Help!

Which patch are you trying to download? The main version is 1.8; there is one patch 1.8.0.1 at this post and another patch 1.8.0.2 at this post. I am able to download the 1.8.0.2 patch fine. For 1.8.0.1, I get a message from the hosting site, mediafire.com, which says "no servers are currently available, please try again in a few minutes". If this is the patch you are trying to get, have you tried several times? Unfortunately free hosting services like mediafire occasionally have downtime.

Do we need it if you now have 1.8.0.2?

There is no need to install 1.8.0.1 if you are installing 1.8.0.2. Everything in 1.8.0.1 is also in 1.8.0.2.

Guys, I just tried your mod this week and gotta say it is pure fantastick dipped in awesome sauce. I had only heard of Dune but never saw it but wanted a new sci-fi mod. So I checked this out and have been hooked. It made me go watch the actual movie and I am having a hard time putting Civ down again. Just wanted to stop in and give you guys a shout that its awesome even for a person who only knew Dune by name. I plan to look around and find out a bit more about the lore.

Good work. ;)

Here is a savegame.

That is curious. Using patch 1.8.0.1 I loaded your save game, and I can see all the settlers and scouts on top of each other. When I look into the settings panel for this game, I see you have used DuneArchipelago, tropical climate, low desert level, and you have set an option "rising seas". I created my own new game with DuneArchipelago, tropical climate and low desert level, and I do not see this behavior; all the civs start in separate locations.

In the list of game options in the "custom game" start screen, there is no such option "rising seas", and actually I have never heard of this option. Let us start with this. Is this an option which you found and set somewhere, or is this a mystery to you also? If it is a mystery to you also, here is one way to possibly un-set this mystery option. Find file <my documents>/My Games/Beyond The Sword/CivilizationIV.ini and open it in a plain text editor like notepad. Search for the text: "GameOptions = " and you will find one line with a bunch of zeroes and maybe some ones:

GameOptions = 0000000000000000000000000000000

If you find any "1" characters on the line change them to zero, and save the file. Now start a new game (do not load an existing game) and look in the settings panel. To see it, click the "Victory Conditions" icon, the red fist, or press F8. Then click the "settings" text at the bottom of the panel. Do you still see "rising sea" in the options column in the middle?

If this does not fix the problem, I am not quite sure what to suggest next. I normally leave the climate and desert level set at the defaults; but that should not matter.

It seems like "rising seas" remained from previous new game start (without mod).
I tried to delete all configs and reinstall mod. At first time there is nothing changed. But when i change all map options, bug expires. Looks like CIV just remember a lot of options, unavailable and invisible in mod.
(Sorry for bad english :] )
