Duplicate Icons

I found all of those already. I have a compiled list of all the button definitions and I'm going through them to see which duplications are important. Many of them are for different ethnicities of the same unit type (for an example, we have SEVENTEEN different Grenadier types). Some are not. Arabian Heavy Pikeman is using the same button as Pikeman, and Mesoamerican Galleon is using the same button as Ship of the Line. I will fix these.

I'm also finding unused building definitions from when certain buildings were converted to Projects. Removing the unused building definitions will make the mod just a touch more stable for if/when someone decides to add a modmod. Too many art definitions can cause runtime errors; I think I was getting some when closing AND + Megapack just before I removed some art definitions from the main mod.

If you feel on a frenzy mood, you can eventually do the same for MCP once you've finished :D

EDIT: While I think about it, you should list all the icons that can be improved (I mean, not up to the BTS standard) and make it public. It should emulse some artists out there.

Here are some icons for unit classes that were sharing a button with a different class.

Recon and Commander units were sharing a button. This is an alternate button for the Commander class (cutting out the flag of Morale and pasting it on a blue button).

Likewise, Missile and Doomsday units were also sharing a button. This is a button for Doomsday, done by taking the original Missile class button, removing the two side missiles and blowing the center one up to 150% of its current size (then cutting it off to fit).

Yes they look good!

I noticed some of the icons have a thicker border than others. I don't know if we can easily fix this.

Well, mostly planes. If you have some eagle eyes, just look at the unit list in Civilopedia. Some, like the Biplan, Early bomber or Early jet, have a squared icon. This is quite subtle however.

EDIT:
- Offset problem: Man'O'War
- Ugly: hellenic oracle (that's the one I made :D), Balista is just... okay, Mohawk archery is quite bad because it use the model as icon.
- Border too thin: Gatlink, Bazooka, Balista, A-10 Thunderbolt
- Squared: Fret, Heavy tank, Assault tank.

That should be it.

Square buttons are buttons from mwunits that are completely missing the alpha channel. Those will be fixed when I reorganize all the buttons into atlas files; I think that will fix any other border issues as well. I think Man'O'War isn't offset in a way that can be adjusted. The ship isn't lined up the same with the water as other naval units, but there isn't anything else wrong with the button.

There is an unused Mohawk Archer button in the files. I think this one looks much better.

Indeed, really good one! Back in the past, I've tried to made some using a Gimp filter. I think we should try to make icons as homogeneous as possible because it looks so professional!

Another place where there is some confusion is Arquebusier/Musketman. The classic Musketman button is being used for the Arquebusier, and the English Redcoat button is doing double duty for both Musket and Redcoat. Several alternate Musketman art definitions use the Arquebusier button as well.

I think RI's Irregulars button would work better for Arquebusier and use the classic Musketman button for all Musketman units.

As an alternative, this is a new Redcoat button that I pulled out of the VIP mod. Then we could use the classic Redcoat button for all Musketman units. I think the first one is more visually striking.

The RFC one looks more distinct, but i think that I prefer the RI button.

I'd keep the Arquebusier icon we already have, it looks like the actual unit model and I think that is important.
The Redcoat does need a new icon, and VIP's looks good.

I agree. Icon should always match with model as much as possible.

I looked some more, and we are using the BTS Musketman model as our Arquebusier and a recolor of the BTS Redcoat model as our Musketman. I will use the RI Irregular icon for Musketman as it matches the unit model best (it has the hat, but not the straps). The Redcoat has not been modified, so I won't change that.

Something else that I have to take a look at is duplicate building art calls. I think I realized this a while ago, but I'm just checking on it now. There are actually many of these. There is nothing in the mod that stops two buildings from calling the same art definition, but the art definition carries the button, so I will need to create some new definitions to change this. (There is also nothing that stops two art definitions from calling the same structure, but I don't have the skills to create new models, so that will have to stay.)

One example of a duplicate building call is Masada. It is currently using the same art definition as the Jewish Synagogue. History Rewritten had a proper Masada button. I took it and added the Jewish symbol that we have on the other Jewish religious buildings. I also think the Zoroastrian Pantheon building makes a better building for Masada than the current Jewish Synagogue.
