Today might be the day the Dutch government falls due to a big fight inside one of the leading parties: the LPF. For the Dutch people, or few that know a bit about Dutch politics, I'd like to ask: who would/will you vote for this time? I'm sure quite a lot have been seriously dissapointed in the LPF, and realize that Fortuyn's followers (in the party that is) aren't as smart as himself. And honestly people, how many of you actually exected this government to last for longer than a year? (I didn't, and if it for some strange reason will....then I won't eat for 2 days ok?)

New elections are upon us pretty soon I agree with you willem, can you already vote BTW? I thought you were 16/17???
Anyway, I voted CDA last time just in order that the the CDA (which in my opinion is a reasonable party) would become the biggest party and not the LPF. I never trusted the LPF: just a lot of talk but no good ideas or people to actually do something in politics.
Now I think I will return to the party I always voted for: GroenLinks.

Bl**dy ***l, are those all national parties??

I don't think I'd bother voting - I'd rather campaign for a First-Past-the-Post voting system. :D

Could you give us some info on what these parties actually stand for?

I concur with logain, can you give a brief summary on their views on major platforms please?

Perhaps this thread is only for the Dutch... They are the only ones who really know what is what downthere. We can only say we support a party that attributes to the same ideology as we do, the Dutch know the specifics of the parties. We might as well just say "I'm a neo-liberal" for instance.

:) Indeed, I'm only 16, so no voring for me...ok, here comes some info:

LPF: new party of murdered leader Pim Fortuyn, right wing, though not racist (very close to it when you ask me), with popular ideas but politicians that are actually guys from the street who only seek advantage for themselves.

CDA: Christian party under prime-minister Balkenende. Not left nor right wing, have only missed 2 governing periods after the war (1994-2002), decent, strong party.

VVD: right-wing, though very close to center. Usual liberalists I'd say.

PvdA: left-wing, though close to center. They're the labor party of Holland. Very popular since the war, winners of past 2 elections (except for last) under Wim Kok (who retreated before last elections). My fovourite ;)

GroenLinks: the green party under Rosenmoller, left wing, bit further than the PvdA. Very good in the opposition.

SP: most left party in Holland, about as popular as GroenLinks. Not communists, seem to like the opposition, pacifists.

Christenunie: very small christian party

Leefbaar Nederland: old party of Pim Fortuyn, he was kicked after racism comments. Founded by a radio guy, does very well on local elections (cities), but is almost the smallest on national level.

D66: central party, has been in the government with the VVD and PvdA for 8 years, but keeps losing support. The referendum is something hey've been fighting for since the party was founded.

SGP: right-wing, sometimes a bit fundamental christian party. Forbid women to join them because it's against faith....:s (maybe I'm confusing them though...please correct me if I'm wrong)

All the other parties are actually jokes, none of them got enough votes I think. The last two are parties for older citizens, about the rest I can't say anything: too unknown.

I guess you'd vote VVD then....

and it's final now, the government has fallen :)

Imagine:
Yesterday the queen burried her husband and today she has to recieve the prime-minister to accept the government to be discontinued (don't know how to describe this properly...).

I reckon the queen has got something else on her mind than a few idiots who decided to begin a government and ended up rolling around through the streets fighting and yelling at eachother. It's a disgrace really...

I agree. Actually I think they should have done it 2 week ago or something...actually they shouldn't have started, it was doomed to fail, but then..it was what the people voted...

Probably LPF or the SGP, although one doesn't know a thing about Dutch politics. Pim Fortuyn was a good man, although one's never too fond of the gay politicians, to put it mildly. :D ;)

This was also the shortest government since WW2, only 86 days.
BTW only 7 (SEVEN!!) HOURS after the start the first member of the government already resigned. Also a record if you want to know.
I think I'll vote PvdA.
LPF is going from 26 seats to about 3 or 4 according to the polls.
People are really fed up with them.

I think the CDA are the partners of my CDU here in Germany,so I'd vote for them.

Question:Would the government have lasted longer with Pim Fortuyn alive?

I think so, I do. Pim Fortuyn was the undoubtful leader of that bunch of...well, dunno how to describe 'em...the mian thing that drifted the party apart was the fight over leadership. Fortuyn would've kicked everyone endangering the party, and no one would have questioned his leadership....things are different now though, as you can see.

Gadzooks!

That many political parties!
Election time must be a bit boring in the land of windmills!!!
