Earth challenge (huge size)

I was speaking in regards to my India game. Khmer was a very easy target, dying to Cats + Swords early on. If you start in the Western hemisphere, Pacal is equally as easy of a target, and Sitting Bull isn't "easy", but can be over-powered with relative ease. Then it's simply just about using your land advantage to out-tech the AI - but you know that already. The computers are already not very good at teching, and no tech trading makes them even worse. Have you done multiple attempts? I think you may have just got unlucky the first time.

In addition, there is a land bridge from Russia -> Alaska and from English -> Iceland -> Greenland -> Newfoundland/Nova Scotia.

I had just had a game where I was Ragnar on chieftain where I got to about 1990 before all hell broke loose.

I had only gone to war once and that was because Gengis Khan decided to send a stack my way which I easily dispatched and that war was done.

Pacal had only 1 city left for about 600 years now for some reason. Then I got attacked by monty who had all of N. America and most of S. America. at the time. I only had 9 cities but was second on the leaderboard and was closing in on future tech and a space race victory or possibly a culture victory.

I had a city in Ireland that he tried and failed to take, Edinburgh which was my biggest hammer producer which he also failed to take but nuked the crap out of, and London which he did actually take. I also had 2 cities on mainland europe that Caesar had tried to take from me but also failed.

By the time everything is said and done there are about 30-40 turns left before time and I'm down to 4th on the leaderboard and there is virtually no way I can get back to the top w/o a miracle

Currently I'm trying a game on chieftain as Caesar and I just finished off Egypt and I'm currently at war with Shaka and that is going rather well. Hopefully I can get either a domination or conquest victory

In my current India Noble game I started going nuts once I got Infantry+Railroads (transportation) and the AI has Longbowman, needless to say they lose pretty quick and my only time constraint is movement speed.

Had a look at the map last night. Russia looks like they have a good starting position, so I'll try a game as them.

This was the game I described in my earlier post. Hopefully my Caesar game goes much better

Crap, now someone will realize I've not submitted anything else because I'm trying to roll the Aryan uprising to wipe out my neighbors.

Events really have no place in these formats...

Agreed. I just started a Rome game, where I stole 2 of Cathy's workers. As I was doing that, a barb uprising happened, and a nice stick of I believe 7 archers popped near her capital. She defended against it, but that + my worker steals really hampered her in my current game.

That might be why civs are getting owned by barbs... they usually don't even if they are morons. However, this stupid barb event is triggered by knowing archery, and AI usually gets it fast if they don't start with it.

When it comes for comparison, events are very bad.

on another note I find that on maps like this the 3 gorges is very useful especially if you start in the old world as it grants power to virtually the entire world

Wanted a fast game just to get it done, so played on settler dif. Like Kadazzle said egypt have a monster start for cultural. I dont know if that is possibel regardsless of the starting position on this level, but this time I got every religion and every wonder i wanted. Only challenge was to figure out if it would go fastes to build wonders or go for religius buildings.

Having, on this level of cause, both tech advantages and all the religions, ending up going for both not sure that was the best play, but anyway.

Tech was mys-med-poly-mono then preisthood for oracle. Actually got to Col before oracle was finished so took phil for another religion and more expensive tech than teo. Then got aest-lit-music for wonders. After that CS for Buro and then the path to lib mostly because of free speech. Was not sure if I should turn the slider for 100% culture, here but decided to go for broadway- Eiffel and hollywood. But really dindn't get much out of Broadway and hollywood as they came in so late.

Finished just before 1300 witch was my goal as i saw that Kadazzle did that on diety :D Really interested in what you did? Wonders, religius or just mass artists ?

@absolutzero:
10 sec per turn sounds crazy. My game was on settler so the AI really dosent do a lot, meaning shorter turns so thats manageable. If i play on higher dif i also wasting alot of time between turns not 10 sec but maybe 5 per turn

And then a question. Is it allowed to submit more than one victory per game. Like saving the game at some point and then finish with another victory type

Some other guy said it before and i agree. Maybe the map should be reveal to all players, now that we are allowed to see in the would builder anyway. Im not sure that the AI will act any different having map knowledge, but it will make the first play throw more competitive.

Ohh and about the no tech trading im not sure. On the one hand i like it because it keeps the diplo simple, on the other hand i hate i because it keeps the diplo to simple :P. Well upsite is that the turns is played faster as you need less time to consider trade and diplo, on the other hand tech pace is really slow when you have to do it all you self. Im splittet about this...

And agreed on the other point in the thread, turn of the random events....

I'm just curious as to everyones play time on this map?

The game I quit was about 8+ hours of play time.

The turns started to get to about 10 seconds+ ( for the AI to move ). In my opinion once you get to that stage it's no longer fun, one reason I don't play huge maps.

Yea, on huge maps it's very frustrating, and epic speed... oh man. I just never go for domination with a western hemisphere due to boredom. Even though my comp is way above those recommended specs, there's still a couple of seconds delay per turn. Very annoying. I pretty much didn't micro whatsoever after 1600 AD. :(

I just finished a game on this map. Game time says 3:11, but it certainly felt longer than that... >.>

Anyhow,

lol@ epic speed 2 city agg warrior rush. ;) The only good Sitting Bull is a dead Sitting Bull, so I was pleased.

It's too bad Inca had to slow me down with some stupid war. Rome as well, but I'm not really sure why they thought 1 horse archer and 1 catapult was an amphibious assault.

Also, the map is soo rigged for China since its neighbors always get screwed. I actually had to switch into HR for a little bit and gift catherine 4000 gold so she wouldn't vote for Qin in the UN. I was always worried about by stepping onto the Eurasia side because I was like the only one w/o the AP religion. (I had left Pacal a few cities left but they got conquered and Hunaya had some of the AP religion) So I never invaded the other side in fear of the herp derp AP vic (AP was inland too...). Got Qin to switch to FR, but Cathy never got lib... WTH?

I also like how Cathy broke up the Buddhist lovefest by randomly switching into Hinduism. That helped so much since I could fight some phony wars with her. I love you Cathy; you always help me win when you're not next to me.

Also I never got aesthetics til like the 1800s. :S

I just finished my Caesar game with a cultural victory on chieftain. If we can do multiple victories on the same game I'll probably have a space victory up in a hew hours or tomorrow.
The final score on this one was 4265 in game and 8102 final. Finished in 1968

If I really try I could almost go for domination with an earlier save but it may take too much time
