Earth challenge (huge size)

I decided to take Monarch diff with Catherine. Am in the middle of the game (probably) 850 AD.

HA rush with Oracle->HBR. Was a bit too slow, so I don't own the Romans land as I should.
The no tech trading makes this tricky and I am not sure if it is worthwile to upgrade some horse archers into knights and redeclare on Romans.

some screens for amusement

Can anyone tell me where it is that I need to put the file in order for civ to read it? I've put it in my saves folder but the game is refusing to read the file

^ I can't decide if I like no tech trading or not :crazyeye: On the one hand it takes away a lot of the intrigue and diplo options. On the other hand it's kinda nice to always know if you're in the lead or not as all the AIs move through the same tech sequence together.

Other thoughts so far from playing a couple hundred turns of Rome, Inca, Khmer, Russia, Native America (not finished any yet!)

Most civs have room for a good 10 cities peacefully which makes cheap organized courthouses good. Imperialistic/creative for Russia was also good, but I just didn't get on so well with the blandness of their land. I'm surprised Russia is considered the strongest and Rome only 4th strongest.

After my initial thought that it was OK the Khmer start bogs down from all the jungle, and I agree it's a tough one.

I'm also surprised that Native America was deemed the hardest. Monty makes things a bit awkward but he's manageable and there is a ridiculous amount of great land and resources. Isolation isn't a problem like normal (no tech trading), and since Europe is accessible pre-optics you have great early overseas trade routes.

Inca I can't make up my mind about. Sad to say I think rushing Pacal is probably the best idea.

Next I'm going to try China and build some wonders :goodjob:

I'd say that the no tech trading rule changes the game quite a bit and explains why Russia is considered easier than Rome. Rome's resources are kind of crap, especially luxuries, which are more important for science now since you can't rely on trading if you're in a weak economic position. So maybe the luxuries in north America are also kind of crap?

It seems like the save should start with the map and strategic resources revealed and fog of war on, given multiple playthroughs are permissable, otherwise all first playthroughs are unfairly penalized. I'm already probably going to restart my Roman game so that the copper and iron are actually on workable tiles.

Good point. People are free to scan the map before playing. Indeed, you are even allowed to see where all the resources are. But I'm pretty sure the AI will act differently when the entire map and resources are revealed.

I looked at the map before my attempt, presuming that was allowed. It helps to know of the land bridge and different resource locations (especially for Rome, who lack potentially Iron).

I finally won! Not that it was really in doubt, but it took 35 hours. I don't think I realized before how much of that was "Waiting for other Civilizations..." My computer is dragging ass.

Anyway,

An Incan Cultural Victory in 1768 AD
Monarch Difficulty
Normalized Score: 37220
Game Score: 1616

It's the best score I've had in a Cultural game, so I gave it my best shot. The crazy thing was that nobody even declared war on me toward the end (or ever). Monty just kept going after Sitting Bull, but could never take him down. Overall, it seemed to be a more peaceful game than most that have been posted. Only 3 Civs died, and I took out one of them.

Got it. Well played!

The list of players and civilizations on the front page don't really make any sense yet. The moment that some people have played with more than one civilization is when the scores can be linked and things get interesting.

I'm working on the Zulu on Warlord ;)
This time I should get a higher score! (I have been training :D)

Hey guys been lurking awhile and playing lots of Monarch Student and Immortal Uni etc games and thought i might aswell start posting my games.

I really enjoyed this map with the the fast 2 settlers and a worker start and definately plan to do another game soon with a more challenging leader.

This Ragnar one wasnt that exciting. I popped Metal Casting from the hut in Ireland around 1500BC and TGLH + Colossus with like 12 Coastal cities pretty much lead into steamrolling over Eurasia first with Berserkers and eventually CR3 Rifles against stacks of Axes and Longbows.

^ Nice win!

I'm currently doing a Deity, Egypt Cultural game and it seems kind of silly. This map is really generous to the human in both wonders and religions. Normally it would be impossible to get to Monotheism first on Deity, however it is easily done on this map. In addition, I got both Mids + ToA in my capital, the Oracle in my third city and 2 religions (Oracle'd Theology) all before 1600BC.

Used cavalry for shaka, ramsess, caesar, tanks and modern armor for the rest.
btw that river city between egypt and zulu with zero resources makes for an awesome he city.. think I had like 90 base hammers in it with levee and workshops. talk about overkill :crazyeye:.
