East African Sword Dudes (12 November 2006)

Yoda, i know full well what a katana is- i'm a sword collector. But at civ scale they do looks very similar, especially the curved katana's.
But but but... the tsuba can be seen in civ scale!

thats minimal, you could even go as far and say that the ethiopians could have produced guards on their swords that look like tsuba ;)

The Ethiopian swords in Quinzy's pictures don't have tsubas, but they do have wider bits at the base of the pommel which obviously function in the same way as hand guards - so I say that at civ-scale you can't tell the difference! Most swords have something like that, after all...

It is visible enough. From your preview, I immediately thought "Japanese katana", not "African sword"

Yo, Plotinus...Great Work on these Sword Dudes! Seems you have hit a nerve concerning the Sword for those that are into absolute authenticity. Personally, I like what you have done very much and the sword looks fine to me at Civ Scale.

Is it just me, or does that Ethiopian Swordsman look like the African immortal from "Highlander?"

Anyway, great units all! Non-european units are ALWAYS appreciated!

I've always loved your units Plotinus. These are no exception.

Nice work!

Plot, if you are registered on DAZ3d.com, you can download, for free, a HUGE selection of various European and Mid-Eastern swords done by a guy named Questor.... You have to suscribe to their newsletter to get access to the free stuff page, though.

IMO, its worth it, since the set I got has two different rapiers, Cariburn swords, Scimitars, Shamshirs, Tulwars and other usefull choppy/stabbity instruments.
