"Easy way to stop smoking". Why did it take so long?

Mise said:
No, the actual head-rush you get... that good feeling when you smoke it.

I see. The "head-rush" is actually a fix. :) Nicotine is drained off your blood system after 30 min, so you need a fix :)

I'm 17 years smoker. I know perfectly well that when you smoke long enough you don't have no "head-rush", smoke taste is disgusting and the only thing that is left is to wonder WHY FOR CRISS SAKE DO I CONTINUE TO SMOKE THAT ****???? :)

I'm a 20 years smoker and I just feel the same as you do. I jsut ordred the bokk on Amazon, I will have it tomorrow. Thanks Leha. If I succeed quitting, I'll owe you a greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeat deal.

You have no idea how right that is I mean an extra 3 years on your life at least statistically? That's priceless. I smoke when I drink, between 0 and 60 cigarettes per week, I get imenese pleasure from the action of smoking, I also sometimes get a head rush, but not as you say if I smoke say for a week every day, which frankly rarely happens and usually means I need to cut down on my drinking. My doctor has asked me if I want to quit and I've said no I don't smoke enough to really be adicted as such, I have given up for 3 months, I suspect it was so monumentaly easy with no cravings because there are long periods where I don't smoke normally.

Good luck, man. Read it carefully and follow instructions. Don't try to quit while you are reading. You'll feel the temptation.

The book is a tool for people who want to stop smoking. it doesn't work for people who do not want to stop but are just curious about the book.

I read it, but didn't want to quit. Leant the book to a friend who also smokes a lot, he read it, but didn't quit. It's indeed a good book if you want to quit but can't because of all sorts of excuses you are trying to convince yourself of.

For me the experience was the following one (my comments in bold

If I could tell you, I'd be an author of the book :)
My personal opinion is:

1. This book makes you to agree you are addict (real drug addict)
I was aware of that before I read the book, so I agreed

2. It proves all "pros" for smoking are false.
All, except for one. The social aspect.

Also I can't keep my hand unoccupied. (That's why I roll my own ciggies, the act of 'rolling one' is just as addictive to me as the actual smoking)

3. It makes you to accept that all your arguments "smoking is not the worst of the evils" are funny (my personal argument was that smoking is much less harmfull than car exhausts :))
It doesn't matter which evil is worse. Impossible to say really. I never use that argument. (Only when debating anti-smoker's simular arguments).

I think it's safe to say that smoking is the most unhealty habit I have

4. There is some element of brainwashing (which is good, because smoking has some element of brainwashing, remember all those movies?)
By your command :scan:

Overall: It helped me to quit in most wonderful way, (snip) Now I'm sure I won't. :)
Good for you. Glad to hear it :)

Edit:
I urge everyone who wants to stop smoking to give this book a try. It is no more expensive than pack of cigarettes and really helps.
The book made a lot of sense, and I think it could really help.

Good luck :goodjob:

Well, for me, it still feels good :) Maybe when I get to your stage where I don't feel the headrush I'll stop. Or maybe by then it'll be too late :(

Either way, I tend to limit my smoking, so that I go (say) a week without one, and then a week smoking like a chimney  . Personally I think I have the willpower to quit, but for me it's more of a crutch than anything else :undecide:

Recently (about two months ago), I've read Allen Carr's book describing the easy way to quit smoking, and I don't smoke cigarettes since then. And never will, I'm positive about that. Also, as I understand, you have chance of 95% to quit smoking after reading this book. (I'm sure it is not a lie as I see my family members, co-workers and friends quit smoking one after another after reading this book)

I too successfully quit smoking thanks to this gem of a book. I bought it on a whim and I'm glad I did. I've offered it up to friends too, some also used it successfully, others didn't but only because they still refused to accept the facts that Carr presents.

I am just really curious what the book says that makes it so compelling. I quit cold-turkey over a year ago, I think. that was after 10 years off and on. yes I still have cravings.

And I find those numbers on the sight highly suspect, since EVERYONE I know who quit, quit cold turkey. I don't know wnayone who used gum, or hypnotherapy, or some book, and I know alot of people who have quit smoking.

The book is basically a cold turkey method, and Carr warns the reader away from gum, patches, cutting-down methods etc.

In summary the book tells you to quit cold turkey and not be miserable about it, but to be happy. It outlines the excuses people make for not quitting and breaking them down. Really, it is not a "method" but a fine treatise on the smoking habit.

Sounds like an interesting read, if nothing else. (Though I'm always wary of books that tell you what you already know, or what you want to hear, i.e. that make you say to yourself, "That's exactly right! This book really speaks to me!")

First, sincerest congratulations to you, Leha, for kicking the habit! It's a nasty one and you'll surely be much happier now that you've quit.

That said, I personally do not want to quit. I love the taste of my ciggies, and yes I realize it's an admitted sign of addiction, but I also love the feel of the first cigarette in the morning when I wake up.

I was wary of it too, I don't know why I bought it, but I'm glad I did. I felt it doesn't tell you what you want to hear, but what you need to hear.

When I speak of the principles as discussed in the book with smokers (some current some ex), people often get very angry and defensive, it says things alot of smokers really don't want to admit, but which I am certain are very true.

I personally think what he says is what people like Neomega figured out on tehir own. Some us just need to have it spelled out for us.

Fair enough, just remember that it comes with the price of having fewer mornings. If you're okay with that, then it is indeed your choice.

EXACTLY. :goodjob:

I think this is essential idea why this book works. We just lie to ourselves so much we don't see truth anymore. This book tells truth we know very well deep inside.

know of any similar books (perhaps by the same author?) for other addictions? what are their sucess rates?

I read an interview with Carr some years back. He said he's tried some of his techniques with other addictions with limited success.

i so wanna quit too... its been 9 long ugly years. ill try this book, thanks leha.

btw, if you keep reminding yourself that you dont need to smoke, it help a great deal, at least in cutting down.

Well, if the book is read for free on internet sites, why dont you give more info as to what actually is in it?

No, I don't think this book is for free on the internet, except when it is illegal stuff :)
I for example read it for free in russian translation, but I'm sure it is violation of copyright. You can buy it at amazon for ~5 euro.

About more info read a little this thread. I'm not sure I can explain more.
As was already said here it is essentially cold turky method, but it is pretty easy one, because book gets you prepared psychologycally in amazing way.
