EB Store Update

Just logged into my ebgames.com account and it now says my order has shipped and has a tracking number. But on UPS it says the shipment with that number still hasn't been picked up.

Mine is the same - ready for pick up but not left yet

I understand people's skepticism when so many people are hearing that the game comes out tomorrow.

With regard to the original poster, I called EB Games and had them check the date in the computer (the date they expect the game to be on shelves). THEIR date hasn't changed- they still expect the game in store today, no later than 5 o'clock.

So, good luck everyone! I will post when I get it!

I thought he said he had it in his hands. So when they are expecting it to be delivered would be moot. I am confused.

Yes, I question that too! And, as stated above, he may be messing with me!

Also, I talked to 2 different people.

Did it ever occur to anyone that the stores may HAVE the game already, they just are telling you they don't so you don't beg them to sell it today?

i doubt you'll be lucky enough to get it. I've been harrassing EBGames all day, both locally and abroad, no EBGames is to get it today. I suppose there's always a hail mary chance, but seeing as EVERY EBGames i've called has said "Tomorrow" and "No we don't get ANY shipments this late in the day."

So... ya

That is what I think is going on. When I called a gamestop this morning the manager told me to call back after 2pm. When I called back an employee answered and said he would check. The manager then picked up the phone and said no.

When I called a different store they gave me the, "actually, it doesn't come out until tomorrow."

I don't get it. Even if "release date" means "ship date" why make us wait an extra day if they have it?

Nope. If they have it they will sell it. There is no incentive not too.

I suggested they might be saying "tomorrow" to avoid seeing a rush tonight for the game and not yet having it. Even the stores that expect to get it today might not commit and say they have it unless it's actually it.

But once a store has it, they'll sell it.

Oh crap, if they get it I'll flip- I forgot about them- they sometimes get stuff one day in advance (they did with conquets)...

-a seattlite who don't wanna drive out there but WILL if he has to!

Hehe, yeah. Same here. I pretty much always go with them though, since as you said, they get stuff on thier shelves fast. They understand gamers and won't keep the boxes in the back until tomorrow just because they don't want the hassle tonight. I hate heading that way and back on the damnable 520 though. ;)

OMG! i just called Best Buy on Clarck Street in Chicago and I was told that they got a very large shipment and it would be out in the next 2-3 hours. I asked if he was sure, because it has been a long day, and he said YES!

Who needs the world series when I can have Civ.

just kidding, if they win tonight and tomorrow I will leave civ behind for a few hours and go party;-)

The guy I just talked to there said the game is not available until Wednesday.

Uhhhhhh, not true. Many media products are "street dated", meaning the retailer pays a heavy fine if they sell the product before that date.

There is plenty of incentive not to sell the game early- how about a 100,000 dollar fine?

No kidding?

What is the street date on Civ 4? Cause if it's today, as I said, there's no incentive not to sell it.

In other words, my post still stands, unless you demonstrate that the street date is tomorrow or later.

Of course, everyone has been talking about the shipping date, not a street date. The restriction on selling before a release date is a given.

So there's the release date, shipping date and now a street date. I hope when i go to the store tomorrow they don't come up with a shelf date... :viking:

There seems to be a bit of confusion over when CIV4 is going to be available.

According to the FIRAXIS website and many other sources, the release date was today, October 25. This is correct. However, that fact does not/did not mean that CIV4 would be universally available as of the release date.

In geographic locations, which are near distribution hubs, EB, Gamestop, Best Buy, etc., will most likely have the game on their shelves today (as of 12noon or later).

For all other locations, including much of the East coast, the game will have shiped today (from the previously mentioned distribution hubs) and will be in stores tomorrow, sometime during the day.

Had FIRAXIS/Take2 stated that October 25 was the 'street date' for CIV4, the game would have simultaneously been available throughout the country. In this instance, the game would have shipped last week from the distribution hubs to the stores/vendors. The vendors would hold the shipment in the back of the store until the street date. Vendors face monetary penalties for selling a 'street date' game prior to the time indicated by the publisher.

These same publishing tactics are present in many other media as well including movies and books.

It is definately aggrevating that this distinction was not (and is not) made more apparent. However, I hope this clears up the lingering confusion.

Can you show me where I said what the street date is? I was simply refuting your claim that there is no incentive for retailers not to sell games early. I provided a clear example of a reason why a store would NOT sell a game early.

Therefore, your post sits down.

Potatomand and Icecool,

when did you place your order?

September 3rd

I also pre-ordered the Collector's Edition via the EBGames website for in-store pick-up,

I checked my account status and it states:

"OPEN"

what does that mean, exactly?

Mine says the same thing.

I'm not worried, though. Everywhere I've called (and read about on here) says tommorow is the day, regardless of what my order status is.
