Edinburgh instead of Inverness

maybe it is just me but I always get slightly annoyed when I read Inverness.

I mean has anybody ever heard of the world metropolis Inverness ?

But in every RFC game there is Inverness the 5-8 Mio inhabitants metropolis. I mean real Berlin has 3 Mio inhabitants you know.

It is not even random, but there must be inverness as is it created and flipped automatically.

So If we need a big city in Scotland, why not just to Edinburgh. I mean Edinburg is no world metropolis as well, but at least the name is known.

Edinburgh is located one tile south of Inverness. You move the cow one tile left (or maybe just remove it .. no 8 mio metropolis in scotland , you know, and then you place Edinburgh (and you can call it by this celtic name you give to inverness, if you like. I mean who knows where this long forgotten city was located).

What do you think ?

Yeah that is his point, I think he wishes the independent city in Scotland to be Edinburgh and not Inverness so you don't end up with a huge Inverness in 19th and 20th century Britain :)

Yes , that is my wish

Then the seafood tiles need to be moved closer to Edinburgh. I actually like 1E of Inverness and build Nottingham instead of London--then you get 2 good cities rather than 3 cramped ones.

And if you need a Celtic name for "Edinburgh", I believe it is Dùn Èideann. If you want to be realistic, I think it would be a better city, though I'm not too sure about gameplay.
This reminds me of an idea I had - would it somehow be possible to make it so you can disband a city when it flips to you on spawn?

Specifically, the useless Yemeni city.

Yeah, it's slightly annoying.

Another vote for disband upon flip. Some of my America starts give me Philadephia or Boston/Popham which I never particularly want.

I don't think Sana'a has much of a use to me when I played as Arabs either, but I've never won as Arabia or America so my opinion is probably not that good :p

Well, Edinburgh isn't exactly a huge city either. If modern population were the only factor to consider all the cities in Britain would be on adjacent tiles (London - Birmingham - Manchester). I think Inverness should be kept where it is so the AI will still settle northern England - better to slightly misrepresent Scotland than not represent the UK's most populous region at all.

As for not being able to disband flipped cities, I'd always assumed there was a reason for it. It's so annoying having to keep the AI's stupidly placed cities, someone must have mentioned it before.

Sure, but it still bugs me that Inverness is the Scottish representative in RFC. Who cares about the representation of Northern England specifically? London should be good for all England.

I agree. Inverness might be a nice placement for gameplay, but when we get to modern times it really bugs me too. Its a shame the scale in RFC couldn't be changed (or the map made substantially bigger), I'd have liked my five cities in Britain to be London, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Belfast and Dublin :D

It's in the wrong place cheesemijit.

Perhaps you're right, I never settle three cities in Great Britain anyway and the AI is probably hampering itself by doing so.

Sana'a builds two workboats whilst Mecca builds the spiral minaret. So far I have never failed to build it with this tactic. (Also I research paper at the same time, you then get paper right after you finish the spiral minaret and a forge, ready for the university of Sankore. Unfortunately I have never managed to get the Sistine Chapel...)

Yeah, I know I was testing it too, but what I didnt test was giving Manchester a 200 score in Settler Map. Could you please check this ?
