Electronic cigarettes

At least here it seems that the e-cigarette was a total failure. Most shops who sold them don't anymore, and those who opened specifically to sell them, well, RIP :(

maybe the same case also for Turkey, I never seen anyone sold this e-cigs here :(

I want to ask if is nicotine itself realy bad for health? Well I know that when overdose its not good feeling but normally, is it worse or better than alcohol?

I don't think it's really bad for you physically. You could say it poisons your mind in a sense, because it will fill you with nicotine cravings.

Whenever I see someone with a portable vaporizer I assume they're vaping THC.

I'm amazed how many people use them for just nicotine.

I believe it hardens your arteries over time and stresses your heart considerably.

It puts stress on the circulatory system (when you feel lightheaded it's because it constricts blood vessels) and it's addictive, but otherwise all the cancer stuff is basically only because of the combustion, you'd get cancer if you inhaled wood fire daily, too.

I wouldn't go so far as to say all the cancer stuff is due to combustion. Nicotine is an extremely potent poison (pesticide, actually) after all.

No, no, FRIGGIN NO it is not. Not unless you're doing the equivalent of injecting lab rats with the artificial sweetener of 100 Tabs at a time.

Is it a poison? Yeah, but it is not potent by any stretch of the imagination in the amounts found in cigs.

Once again... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicotine

In smaller doses (an average cigarette yields about 1 mg of absorbed nicotine), the substance acts as a stimulant in mammals, while high amounts (50–100 mg) can be harmful.

...

Nicotine reduces the chance of preeclampsia,[32] and atopic disorders such as allergic asthma.[33][dubious – discuss] A plausible mechanism of action in these cases may be nicotine acting as an anti-inflammatory agent, and interfering with the inflammation-related disease process, as nicotine has vasoconstrictive effects

...

Studies have indicated that nicotine can be used to help adults suffering from autosomal dominant nocturnal frontal lobe epilepsy. The same areas that cause seizures in that form of epilepsy are responsible for processing nicotine in the brain.

...

While acute/initial nicotine intake causes activation of nicotine receptors, chronic low doses of nicotine use leads to desensitisation of nicotine receptors (due to the development of tolerance) and results in an antidepressant effect, with research showing low dose nicotine patches being an effective treatment of major depressive disorder in non-smokers.

...

Nicotine (in the form of chewing gum or a transdermal patch) has been explored as an experimental treatment for OCD. Small studies show some success, even in otherwise treatment-refractory cases.[49][50][51]

The relationship between smoking and inflammatory bowel disease has been firmly established, but remains a source of confusion among both patients and doctors. It is negatively associated with ulcerative colitis but positively associated with Crohn's disease. In addition, it has opposite influences on the clinical course of the two conditions with benefit in ulcerative colitis but a detrimental effect in Crohn's disease.

It has some bad side effects as well, but since there are plenty of people wanting to say all the bad things, I'm not bothering with that. But as for it being a poison, like I said earlier... yeah well, so is chocolate.

...........ok no need to pop a gasket

Pretty sure we're on the same side of this debate anyhow

Drugs are drugs, if you're going to be injecting a stimulant into your body in whatever way, at least be considerate about it. With that in mind e-cigs seem like a good alternative. I mean, it's not like you're disposing of needles or butts on the street, and there doesn't appear to be much of a concern of second hand vapour.

So whatever, you're an addict, you need your fix, I get it. This seems to be the best way to do it while still pretending you're actually smoking, which appears to have a psychological side to it that makes you think that you're cooler than you actually are, which I guess is why a lot of people get into it in the first place. Hey, same with heroin, right? And wouldn't people love it if heroin users were doing e-heroin instead? It'd get them high but eliminate the risk of dirty needles spreading disease for example. E-drugs seem like a win to me, although I doubt we'll ever actually see e-heroin.

Okay, I'm out then. If people won't even accept legitimate statements about nicotine, I have no use trying to talk about it.

Chewing tobacco causes mouth and tongue cancer. Riddle me that.

Cannabis smoking doesn't cause lung cancer. Riddle me that as well.

Bhsup, what OJH is saying is that smoking burns up most of the nicotine so it never enters your body, ergo you don't acquire the poison. But the amount of nicotine is, if you ate the cigarette, enough to do damage. What you're saying is that since people don't eat cigarettes unless they're children or terribly misinformed, :ack: the "poison" aspect is largely irrelevant similar to how the poison aspect of caffeine is irrelevant.

Quite. To understand, all you have to see is a dipper accidentally swallow his chew. That is about a spoonful of tobacco, but it will make him violently sick.

Marijuana smoking does cause lung cancer, but exposure is far less. Typical usage is less than 20 a week compared to 150+ cigarettes.

Yeah first thing you'd want to do is throw up and then throw up again.

Cannabis smoke has not been correlated to an increase in lung cancer at any level of smoking only cannabis. The difference between cannabis and tobacco is not a matter of volume but rather a matter of what's in it.

Not true. Hemp has much higher levels of tars. It is definitely unhealthy to smoke it. Water filtration helps, hence the increasing popularity of hookas. That said, nicotine is carcenogenic and THC is not.

I'm pretty sure we will, if not officially then as an underground phenomena.

Higher levels of tar, sure, and smoke itself is unhealthy, perhaps, but that doesn't mean that it increases the risk of lung cancer.

THC is not only not carcinogenic but cannabis is anti-carcinogenic. That might play a role in why every study I've seen so far has shown no link from cannabis to increased risk of lung cancer.
