Do you think there is room for it in the American electoral space?

The details are few at the moment but it sounds like his America Party’s platform is spending and deficit reduction, and free trade.

Is he going to seriously back candidates, and could they be viable, or are we looking at a spoiler for some congressional Republicans?

In the USA, do candidates above a certain threshold receive some physical protection? Can this explain why he is doing this?

Running American Party Senate candidates states with GOP incumbents up for re-election would be perfect.

Musk is dissatisfied with the Trump budget and tax bill, then following a poll launched on X, decided to start his own party.

As far as I’m aware, it has just been announced and there’s no platform or even a website as of yet. In my observation though if you want information, going to the party’s main page is the worst place to find it.

BUILDING AMERICAN JOBS FOR AMERICANS
American workers more than ever job in America working for more American jobs and we need more jobs in America for the job-working American worker. Jobs! America!

uh...That is a DEI picture and those are no longer allowed, especially since the black guy looks like a supervisor. He holds the communication device, is talking and pointing and wears the white hat.

Years ago I worked at a place, semi-public I guess you could say, where I did web graphics. One of the requirements was in all pictures to have different races in the pictures, but our limited stock photo library didn’t really have what we needed, so it was my job to cut and paste folks together into a diverse enough picture.

It’s as Bismarck said about legislating, it’s like sausage-making: you don’t want to see how it’s done.

Will Musk's party substract significant amount of votes from the republican party? If so it will be the best service Musk could do to the US.

He just needs to capture enough votes in key senate and house races to give the Dems a win they aren't expecting.

somewhere I came across information that the creator of another third party helped win the election of Clinton in 1996, just taking a lot of votes from the Republicans.

It was said that Ross Perot was a spoiler for George Bush in 1992, but if polling after the fact is to be believed, Perot supporters would have split evenly enough between Bush and Clinton as to have no impact on the race.

A better spoiler may perhaps have been Theodore Roosevelt running in 1912 against Taft and Wilson.

He'll do it like he does everything else, half-assed, and it won't go anywhere.

I think there are a lot of times when he’s quite the workhorse, but I think his talents are best in technology or engineering areas or marketing related to them, not the skills necessary to build a political party.

His talent is in giving the impulse to do something and then actually competent people do the work while he then goes off-rails and has to be managed.
At one time I'd have said it makes him ill-suited for politics, but by now maybe it's actually the best bet against someone like Trump. Or not. I'm not going to try to predict anything considering how weird the world has become.

I think it will take more than him getting in a hump over Trump to create a viable Third Party.
All he needs to do is fund 5-10 critical races with a few million dollars in a few states. $20 million dollars spent on House races could easily tip the house and scare the beejeesus out of the GOP. A bit more might even flip the Senate. Either or both going to the Dems would screw Trump big time.
