Now, it's in fear of meteors, supervolcanoes and global-warming. If we were right about all times we would be doomed, the Earth would be a medicinical wonder. World will end, that's scientifically proven fact. It will take just about 4 billion years.

As for the human race, I hope it will end much sooner. We need few Cylon baseships on the orbit to show us, what's really important...

You can blame the William Miller and his Millerites for that, the progenoitor of the seven day adventists, and the general infusion of Armageddon Myths into fundementalist religion. He predicted the world would end in 1843 on the basis of a passage in daniel 8:13-14 predicting 2300 days before the return of Christ, of course since day means year in the bible this was 2300 years. Of course when it didn't he predicted it would end in 1844, he was wrong and soon after his cult dissapeared, unfortunately his ideas stayed around to burden future generations.

Of course they're not solely responsible, many scholars in the church foretold of the end of the Earth in 1000 AD, and Nostredamus with his typically vague prophecies came up with two dates, both of which have passed.

Revelations has a lot too answer for, who would of thought a man with a penchant for popping halucinigenic mushrooms would of come up with such widely credited prophecy? There was much wrangling in the Church about including Revelations, mostly because it was at odds with the New testaments message in many areas. I truly wish people wouldn't take it so seriously, the idea of the end coming soon is not constructive in anyway and I quite agree it's at complete odds with the positive message in the New Testament.

A meteor seems to be the most obvious way to destroy much of the life on this planet, but since the chances of impact are still very small, I am fairly confident that I will be able to live my life in peace, and that thousands of generations will be able to after me.

indeed, the mystery is why anyone had any faith in his prophecies at all, I mean the man got one thing right(the death of the French King in a hunting accident) And an absolute truck load of things wrong, added to which most of his prophecies were so vague they could of meant almost anything.

Is this a prediction of the fall of the twin towers as some suggest?

Let's face it it's referring to an Earthquake or volcanoe, and how many cities have been destroyed by those or had their towers shaken. People will lock onto the mention of towers and a New city, New York, as if the rest of the innacuracies pale before such divination.

I watched a documentary about the Yellowstone volcano. Well if it does erupt wich will be likely a super volcano, it will be a real disaster.

It happened before our time, a super volcano erupted 73k years ago and almost signed the end for our ancestors. They said around 3k individuals survived.

Although, none of the scientist said they could tell when it will erupt, but it will thats the only thing we know for certain. Could be this year, this century or the next.

Same thing with the magnetic poles flipping, same thing with La Palma. Who knows these things. Better to live without fearing them though.
