Enemy Ace asks: Are you selfless or uncaring?

Quite satisfactory!
Your honesty is what I am looking for. And you gave that.

Thanks to all for answering, keep it coming!

1. An everyday situation in my hometown. I'd tell her politely that I won't give her money. I wouldn't state reasons nor would I argue.

2. If it really looks an accident: Stop and ask if I can help, eg if someone's injured, by letting them use my phone or by taking one or more of them somewhere. The chance of running into really dangerous people is close to zero in my home country.

3. Help the old lady. If I really lose my job for helping an old lady I don't want that job any longer.

4. Summon the police by mobile phone, then I try to distract the goons from their victim in order to to gain time. Could work with a little luck.

5. I think I would call the police, did that before.

1. Too bad. I don't know this woman. Besides, there are plenty of social instituitions that could assist her a lot more than squandering off my few measly bucks. Plus what the hell kind of meal could she possibly buy? 'Go to a soup kitchen' would be my advice. Or possibly, oh god! Must I say it!? Get a job. And if children prevent you from doing this then be the adult and give them to any number of well-to-do, but childless families.

2. All the 'gangsta rappers' around here have cell phones which is the only assistance I could offer. So no stop. BLING BLING
Even if they needed a vehicle, the possibilty for this turning out very bad for me would be too weighty in my decision.

3. I would help her. If any job will heavily repremand me for being a few seconds late, then thats not the job for me.

4. I'd get away from the scene, and if I'm not noticed, phone the millicents.

5. If the law permitted me I'd beat him to a pulp, but since we live in a society that protects subhumans then I'd just have to call H.R.S.

All in all I think what I say goes for just about every other American whether they admit it or not.

1. Tell her to **** off and get out of my way.

2. Ignore them and keep driving.

3. I'd say "Hey, you ok?" and "Help, is on the way." Then, I'd call some people to haul her away in an ambulance on my way to work. Sorry, with the job market the way it is I can't afford to lose it.

4. Ah, depends on the situation. But how do I know he's innocent? He could of had it coming. Anyway, I'm not gonna get sent to the morgue for some guy.

5. I'd report it. I hate my neighbors.

Both the actions and tone remind me of Bender from Futurama! :D

1. Check my wallet for adequate protection and have her earn the money with her best imitation of a Clinton intern.

2. Do my best Bernard Goetz imitation

3. Same thing I hope someone would do for my grandmother. Let me guess, this old lady is the one that's lying in wait ready to rob me of my pie at the first sign of weakness?

4. Depends on who they were beating up. If it looked like John Ashcroft, I might join them. Otherwise, get the hell out of there and contact the authorities the moment I'm out of potential danger myself.

5. Introduce him to the swell fellows from hypothetical #4.

You have money given to you be a friend/relative/whatever to buy a pie or something.
On the way to the mall, you are intercepted by a junkie woman and her kids. She begs for some money to feed her children.
Having spotted your cash, begins to sob and asks for some money…
But you only have enough to buy your errand.

What would you do?

I would not give the money, as it is not mine to give.

2.
You are driving, and see a car that has went off the road. at the side of the road is a bunch of people.
They are wearing all the trappings of gansta rappers or what ever signifies a tough in your country.
They wave frantically and try to get you to pull over. They look distraught.

What would you do?

I would stop and ask them if they need help. I would offer to call for whatever assistance they need. I would not offer to give them a ride.

3.
An old woman trips and falls down the stairs across the street. You are late for an appointment.
If you miss this appointment, you will lose your job or the chance of one.
But would you take the time to help the old lady who is shivering on the pavement in shock, as no-one else is around to help.

What would you do?

I would help the old lady. I can always find another job, but she wouldn't be able to find another life.

4.
You see a group of thugs run up to an innocent man and start beating him to a pulp.
You are about to go to his aid, but you notice these ruffians have staves and weapons.
You could phone the cops, but this man might might be dead in minute.
Do you run up, confront the goons, and join the man in hospital or the morgue? Or ignore the incident?

What would you do?

I wouldn't ignore the incident, I'd call the police. But I would not risk my life in this situation. I might interfere if I thought I could do some good, but not if the only result would be me lying on the next slab in the morgue.

5.
You accidently have witnessed a neighbour ruthlessly beating his children, under the guise of ‘discipline’.
This creep is breaking the law, and is unaware that you know his secret.
but when you meet this guy, he is always pleasant, putting on a face of normality.
Do you report this individual to the authorities, or keep treat it as not your business?

What would you do?

I'd report the scum.

Tough questions, I know.
But I am really eager to know what your level of caring for others actually is.
Please be honest and don’t answer just to appear like a ‘good guy’ to your fellow posters.

Thanks for taking part. :)

I answered your questions before reading the rest of the thread.

I would offer her a hot meal, clothes, shower, possibly living conditions. Whether it would help herwould remain to be seen, the children......I don't rember a omnipresent being saying, Ok! I've got you all hoked up, what do thing about being born to these guys? Any help I gave the mother would be for thier sake.
btw...I've done this before

Stop and help. If it turned ugly, I'd still stop the next time, :) I would'nt have anything else to take

Any job worth haveing would understand. If they didn't, f*** them, I don't wan't their money or their crap.
I've been in this circumstance too  not an old lady but someone needed help. it was two months before I found another job. The manager fed me some pretencious bulls*** so I said fine, and left.:p

generaly I'd call the cops for all the good it would do ;) If I had the chance, I'd kill them. unless there was only one on one, then I'd just yell at them WTH? If told me to f*** off I'd throw a rock at one's head and run around the nearest corner, turn, wait, crack the sternum of the first one to come around.
If the rest are able to get the upper hand, that one will remember me.

I'd not report him, unless it was severe. Sometimes the DHS's 'fix'
is worse than the problem. I'd say something though....agressively.

1) I'd keep the money. First of all its not my money. Secondly, if i gave money to every junky i've seen, I'd be as poor as them, and they'd be in the exact same situation as they mostlikly will spend it on drugs. (yes i know not always, but most of the time the will)

2) Chances are a gang has a cellphone on them. So if an accident did happen the cops or ambulance would be on its way. There's no point in me sticking around as i have no training in life recesitation. If i do see blood on them or some clear evidence it isn't a setup i may pull over(with locked doors) and then ask if they did call for help, if they didn't then I'd call if i had a cellphone. I would be very apprehensive at first though. I'd be ready to floor it away.

3) Yes, I figure i can explain this to my boss or whomever i have the appointment with. And if they don't care that i helped an old woman (assuming they actually believe the story) then i don't need to work for them.

4) Call the cops and keep my distance. Maybe try to draw a few of them away, but first I'd call the cops. The only way I'd intervene is if i was with some people and with enough to stand a chance.

5) It depends what you classify as beating. I think that spanking isn't abuse. However hitting with a closed fist for example is beating the child. I am hesitant when it comes to reporting him as if i am wrong, I may have very much f*cked his life over if it got out that he was an accused child abuser. He'd be fired mostlikely, even if he was cleared of any charges.

Helloo!

Here are my questions:

1.
You have money given to you be a friend/relative/whatever to buy a pie or something.

Since it is not my money to give and the value of giving money to a junkie who only claims to have children is dubious (more likely to end up going towards drugs and supporting her lifestyle) I would have to decline and buy the pie. I do frequently give money to beggars if I do have change on me however, but not if the money is not mine to give.

2.
You are driving, and see a car that has went off the road. at the side of the road is a bunch of people.

If they look distraught then I would trust my instincts and help. Could be dangerous if they are good at play acting, but most people I meet from all backgrounds are friendly towards me and I'd take a chance.

3.

Lose my job over missing an appointment for a good reason, that isn't a job that is slavery :p

I would without hesitation help the old lady, she is probably loaded :) (the pensioners of this country are the richest sub-section of the population by the way!).

It would depend on a few things, like whether there is someone else there to call the police and an ambulance for us both. I'll be perfectly honest and say that I'd call the Police (and an undertaker) before going in if I felt I'd be defeated in the fight, no point making a futile gesture.

Report him to the Gestapo. It says quite clearly the beating is ruthless.
