Enemy Ace asks: From Whence Does Your Nation Gain Moral Authority?

1. Is it OK for your nation to make a decision to bomb someone else, based on the view that they have the right to do so?

This depends on the reasons behind the decision to bomb. I think most people would agree the UK had the right to bomb Germany during WW2.

2. Do you believe your nation has more moral rights than many other/lesser countries?

Since I believe that people have a responsibility to protect the rights of others and my nation is founded on guarantees of these rights then, yes, I believe my nation speaks from a higher moral ground than nations lead by rulers who deprive their citizens of the same rights.

3. Looking back at your own nation’s history, do you think you have a moral right to advise/warn/attack other nations?

A lot can be learned from history. In the US, slavery and oppression lead to a bloody civil war. In Europe, bigotry lead to the extermination of millions. It is not only the right but also the duty of nations who are working on keeping these atrocities in the past to advise, warn, and even attack those who wish to continue these practices today.

4. Do you worry about how other nation perceive your country?

I worry more about what other nations are not perceiving about the world around them.

5. Do you think that the ‘might is right’ philosophy is correct, should your nation just bully it’s way to the top?

I can think of one nation that "bullied" its way to the top by being a significant factor in defeating other nations trying to bully their way to the top. Yet, despite its massive might it has not even tried to use its power to conquer its own "island".

6. Can you justify bombing another country based upon your nation’s perceived moral superiority?

Can you justify standing idly by while watching someone beating the heck out of his children?

Where does you nation's moral authority come from?
America, i think. :)

What do you think? Is it right to think so?

Please attempt to answer these questions!

1. Is it OK for your nation to make a decision to bomb someone else, based on the view that they have the right to do so?

i don't think so, not unless they attacked first, but that isn't a moral question.

2. Do you believe your nation has more moral rights than many other/lesser countries?
No

3. Looking back at your own nation’s history, do you think you have a moral right to advise/warn/attack other nations?
No, but if it is a general consensus from a bunch of other countries (ie the UN) about laws that you have agreed with, you should listen.

4. Do you worry about how other nation perceive your country?
Yup, Regional security would be nice.

5. Do you think that the ‘might is right’ philosophy is correct, should your nation just bully it’s way to the top?
Not at all, it's disgusting.

6. Can you justify bombing another country based upon your nation’s perceived moral superiority?
No.

1. Yes, a nation can use it's military resources as it pleases.
2. I believe non democratic countries are of lesser moral, as they don't serve the idea of a nation
3. I don't consider history to be a part of this.
4. Only to the extent that has an actual effect (in trade, etc)
5. Might is right, but no nation is strong enough to completely bully around, nor would I think my coutnry should, as it would greatly hurt the people of our nation.
6. Yes I can.

Is it OK for your nation to make a decision to bomb someone else, based on the view that they have the right to do so?
Depends on the situation entirely. It was okay for Britain to bomb Nazi Germany but it wasn't okay for Nazi Germany to bomb France.
Do you believe your nation has more moral rights than many other/lesser countries?
Yes, if by lesser countries you mean dictatorships.
Looking back at your own nation’s history, do you think you have a moral right to advise/warn/attack other nations?
History has nothing to do with the moral right of the present. Just because someone did something wrong in the name of my country two hundred years ago does not mean I can't occupy the moral high ground now. Judge people by their actions not the actions of others.
Do you worry about how other nation perceive your country?
Absolutely not. I don't care how anyone else feels about my nation, just like I don't care how anyone feels about me. The moment you start caring is the moment you start changing. And you should never change simply because someone else disapproves. Be yourself and to hell with the rest of them, that's my motto.
Do you think that the ‘might is right’ philosophy is correct, should your nation just bully it’s way to the top?
I don't think a nation can bullu it's way to the top anymore. The days of Empire-building are long gone. America is not about to attack France regardless of what disagreements they may have.
Can you justify bombing another country based upon your nation’s perceived moral superiority?
Yes I can. Anyone who commits crimes against humanity should be bombed into hell and there ain't nothing someone can say that will change my mind about that.

It seems that it is easy these days to assume that you have a superior moral philosophy,
thus, you are able to make choices on behalf of a different country.

Where does you nation's moral authority come from?
National Moral Authority is a myth. No earthly nation possesses any such thing.

I think that only God has the right to rule, and of course it is right for me to think so, as I am a Christian.

I don't think Jesus has any bombs...

Of course. The Kingdom of Heaven lays claim to its right of rulership because its founder is the Creator and sole owner of the universe and all its contents, and therefore cannot be disputed as the logical choice for how to dispose of said chattels.

Jehovah, God of Armies, has made warning to nations in the past, His prophets have been advisors to kings and pharoahs, and as to His military power... ask any Assyrian or Jerichoian you might meet whether or not God's word is law...oh yeah, that's right. There aren't any more Assyrians et al...

I have no king but Jesus, and his kingdom is no part of this earth. It worries me greatly that many see his nation in the false light of Christendom's pale shodow, rather than in it's true colors, and thereby percieve it as flawed or foolish.

Of course not. Jesus was chosen for the kingship of earth based on his many fine qualities, as judged by our mutual Creator. When he takes control, there will be no question of his authority to do so.
