Can some smart person please post some info on Medieval Britton & Ireland? To be more specific about time period here are some Kingdoms of the time: Wessex{England}, East Anglia{England-ish}, Northumbria{Scotland}, Strathclyde{Scotland}, Alba{Scotland}, Munster{not cheese, Ireland}, Connacht{Ireland}, Ui Neill{north and south, Ireland}, Ulaid. I can't remember the year exactly, I just know that it's probably before 1100 A.D.

I fear you're going to have to be a little more specific with your question. As it stands your question could be answered with a dozen books and I can't see any point in regurgitating information that can easily be found in (whisper it) Wikipedia. Alternatively if you want a simple introduction to the period, the first couple of books in the Short Oxford History of the British Isles should get you started.

Hm. Can you provide a wikipedia link? It's sometime during King Alfreds rule{over Wessex}; also I think it may be in the later 800's

"The Mammoth Book of British Kings and Queen" has information on hundreds of British rulers, includiing legendary ones from before the Roman conquest of southern Great Britain.

It's in my sig.

The kingdoms you list in the OP were around for hundreds of years. Is there some specific event you're trying to find out about?

Nope. Anything related to those Kingdoms listed above is wanted info in the thread, so long as it's during/before/not to long after the Vikings came around.

Hm. Thought it was a civ4 scenario, which explains why I could never find it. For 20 minutes. For 20 Long, LOOOOOOOOOONG minutes![pissed] Oh well. Time to download.

please post what civ it is next time!

I don't remember - I got info from all over the place. Some parts (such as the info on Hwicce) was very hard to find, so I looked at some fairly obscure books in the British Library. Most of the religious information I had already from one source or another, either my own studies (the Christian bits) or my girlfriend's (the pagan ones).

If you want more specific reading lists, Asclepius would probably know better than I.

It wasn't as hard as finding information for my African scenario though. I think I found a total of one book on the Kanem-Bornu empire, ever, and even that didn't have much actual information in it!

Seconded.

Don't be put off the cheesy title. This book is a hardcore piece of history and one of the best introductions to Dark Ages history in Britain.

Strathclyde in that period was a real powderkeg. It was populated by Britons, Saxons, Picts, Scots and Norse factions all at once or at intervals. Think of it as a Dark Ages Bosnia, but even more volatile.
