EOC2 - Ruling the Waves

Turned down research to 8 as even at 10 still takes 3 turns.
Renamed Bergen, FP_Bergen so I can remember where FP is. Also in Bergen, changed one citizen assignment as was losing food.
Oslo changed from Harbor to Lib so can get green hill, worker and then harbor.
Took 2 citz from mine working to coast in Uskudar so Salonika can get market in 30 instead of 45 turns.

_T 1 1210ad
Extend trade of dyes from Portugal for horse,ivory, wines.
Move along coast. 4 workers were found loafing and having a big party in Urfa. We fired the old crew boss and got those lazy Vikings back with the program.

_T2 1220 ad
No techs to trade, lowered research. FP and physics in 1T. I was reminded you can't load an army in a Caravel. Boo Hoo.

_T3 1230ad
Barracks in south. Started Gravity research because we like apples. Spain doesn't want to trade, we're still ok with happiness, we'll deal with this later.

_T4 1240ad
Upgraded horse to knights. Almost time....


_T5 1250ad
Declared time to play with Dutch. Unloaded 3 knights from WWind2 on hill by Breda.
Moved WWind2 to Alesund, loaded 3 cannons from upgrade last turn and moved back by Breda and unloaded with Knights. Here's situation before counterattack and naturally Dutch have swiss mercenaries.

Breda:
Hills south-- 3 knights and 3 cannon
Hills 2 south--2 knights, 3 MedInf, 1 Musket

Rotterdam:
Iron Hills-- 6 knights

Delft:
Hills north-- 4 knights.

_T6 1255
No counter attack at all yet. One sword moved towards Alesund. Weird.

Breda battle:
Lost one knight, killed on swiss and redlined knight. Killed another swiss and now yellow knight. Med Inf killed one sword. Now see another sword coming from Leiden. See longbow defending.

Rotterdam battle:
Lost one knight. 2 Knights earned purple hearts and are red lined. We captured Rotterdam!!!!

Delft battle:
Did not go so well. Lost 3 knights, killed on swiss. One 3/5 knight left versus one 2/5 swiss.Ugh.

Trades:
Econ to Liz for MT. Finally get Spain back on board, Spices and TM for Econ.

Liz wants Salt for 5gpt, we accept for 29gpt. ;-)
Our 3/5 Knight defeats a weak sword attack. Cannons do nothing, rush Barracks in Alesund. Upgrade a couple of knights. Only 180 gold left.

_T8 1265
Medieval Inf by Alesund defends well vs another. Unfortunately a longbow sent him to Valhalla.Med Inf kills our Musket by Rotterdam. Now our turn.

Since a cannon hit, gamble with elite sword on Breda. He dies but Med Inf captured Breda. Med Inf defeats Dutch MI by Breda.
Knight takes care of longbow by Alesund and is upgraded.
Knight by Amderdam captures worker. 3 in position to cut road to capital.

_T9 1270
Broke road by amsterdam. No defenders so loaded up knights for upgrade. On ships back to main continent.
Only 71 gold so set research low to have enough to upgrade.
Need one more offensive for little 2 tile island to NW. I have a cannon and longbow but new more power....

_T 10 1275
Dutch MI headed towards Istambul, well was. Sword took care of him, no change in tactics.
Got all Knights upgraded, only 30g in treasury. Reset research to level 9.

Next player:

1. I forgot to check trade relations. Doubt if anything is available but go thru the rounds.
2. Incense has a Sapahi, but needs company for attack on Delft. You have a bunch of upgrades by Caravels so should have no problem.
3. Stack is by Leiden so it should fall your first turn.
4. In a couple of turns you will have Sapahi by Harlinge, ships are there so should be another piece of cake.
5. I would not battle in the mountains by Amsterdam, we are stronger in offense but not defense. Make them come to plains. After you have a bunch of defenders you can land a mixed stack by Amsterdam to play with the Dutch mice. I would recommend 4 cannon, 2 longbow, 3 muskets/rifle, 2 sapahi

Looks like the next 2 rounds will be lots of fun, enjoy

I think I'm going to break from tradition and stop here, because there are some pieces on the board that the next better player really ought to move, because this turn can set up the next 10. We could load up and rest up at Rotterdam and push to Amsterdam, or we could leave enough Sips in Rotterdam to skirmish against what the Dutch send there, and redeploy the rest to take a coastal city on more open ground along the western coast.

Some assets:
Istanbul: 1 elite Sipahi (promoted whacking something the dutch dropped off last turn
1 Sip in Iznik, 3 in Antalya (2 in a Galleon)
4 wounded Sips can heal in the rax at Rotterdam this turn. MDI Army and 1 wounded Sip SW SW of Amsterdam. The MDI army is holding a mountain that can be used to stage an assault against Amsterdam.
There are 7 Sips in the city we just took south of Incense.

Interesting plays Scoutsout. Sometimes in the midst of an active session it does not make sense to arbitrary break at turn 10. Seems like a good call. Butz should enjoy it.

Yes renegotiate was on and sound was off. Thus reminder to next player, don't forget to check preferences at start of turn.

It will be interesting to see how this develops. Dutch are sure weak now.

Looks like things are going well. If the Dutch go like this, then the rest of the world should just be a stack of cards.

Well, to be perfectly honest, I can't take a turn just yet. My cable modem is not cooperating, and I am now up in 4 sg's, so please bear with me. I do indeed hope to dive back in to this one very soon. Hopefully a day or two will make a world of difference. ;)

Yes, the move did go well, although we are only partially moved in beause we decided to completely renovate the apartment before we got settled. Meh, better to do it all now and get it done, right?
 
I'm glad you guys are okay with me playing 9 turns. I did that by accident in SGOTM2 and drew a few guffaws from the team. :blush: Then a teammate only had time to work in 5 turns, leaving me with 15. I had to take off my shoes to be able to count past ten... :crazyeye:
 
I believe Bede is up in Bede01. If Butz doesn't show in a day or so I expect Bede can pick it up, he's around...
 
I would be kind of surprised if Butz does not pipe up, he has been standing firm even through all the other dropouts and delays.

Hmm. Very surprised Butz decided to bail now, he had much better oppurtunities than now, when we rebuilt the team and got the game rolling again.

Since Butz has not responded, suggest we assume he bailed. He can always ask for reinstatement.

England will pay way over market for Magnetism because it will let her build MenOWar but she doesn't have the iron needed or will pay the same for ToG. Sell her ToG instead as she now won't have the cash to research Magnetism anytime soon. She has nothing left to pay for lux or iron so I think the deal worked. Take the money and turn up the research on Steam Power due in 5@100% with 14g net income :)

Assault on Amsterdam is seriously stalled.
Dutch are determined to retake Delft. They are sending more units north than they have in Amsterdam it feels like.

6-1355
Repositioning and healing the injured. The determined Dutch attacks at Eindhoven wipes out the Sipahi army. We do finally consolidate the two tiles leading north.
7-1360
It takes an MDI army and three crippled Sipahis but AMsterdam finally falls into our hands. The inability to get cannon into the mountains really hurt the seige effort there. There was just no place to put them that wasn't exposed to counterattack.
Willie is completely without strategic resources so I think we have seen the last of the Swissies and MDI's. Longbows and spears are all he can build.

Portugese come calling wanting Protection and Passage. Nope, not right now.

Theodora's dromns belch fire all over Eindhoven.

Consoildating hold on Amsterdam and investing Utrecht
Byzantines flame the defense out of Eindhoven.
9-1370
Destroy Dutch counter at Amsterdam and get another leader.
Pillage ground at Utrecht. Land assault troops.
Take Eindhoven.

10-1375
Reinforce Eidnhoven.
Bombard Utrecht, wound defenders. Lose an attacking Sipahi but cripple SwissMerc. Garrison is hurting but attackers are out of horses.
Destroy Dutch counter at Amsterdam. All I'm seeing now are SwissMercs and Longbows.

Utrecht is yours Sesn. It may take a turn or two to get into position but it will fall.

The Dutch longbows are deadly agaisnt Sipahi and the Swiss Mecenaries are tough to kill even with A8.

I am building additional unis' and such in the home island, fell free to switch if you need reinforcement. Just sail 'em across the strait and force a landing two tiles from where you want to hit. If you can bombard out the connecting roads with the Frigates so much the better for us.

The army in Amsterdam can head out on a pillaging mission or remain as a cork in the bottle.

We have the tech lead by at least two. Theodora drew Medicine as the freebie on the age change but I didn't trade for it as we were only two or three turns out and I didn't want to give her either money or another IA tech. We have the cash and can do 100% research for at least another ten so getting to SciMeth should be accomplished in your turns. Put policemen in the captured towns trather than taxmen as the uncorrupted gold drops right into the science budget instead of the Treasury. If you can but Industrialization from somewhere, do it as the home island is getting close to having the shield productive flatlands railed so factories will be a big boost. Sipahis should be good until after RepParts and factories will be a big help towards the 100 shields needed.

No one else has landed on the Dutch island and Hannibal hasn't ventured out of Sulcis south of Amsterdam yet. England has a couptle of caravels at sea which are being shdowed buy a frigate. Use the "Wooden Wall" to discourage them from landing near a Dutch city.
