EOC2 - Ruling the Waves

Indeed it was. :)

Got it.

Do we know if Butz is coming back? I just got a PM from a teammate in SGOTM2 (Tallanas) who asked me to let him know if I saw anything interesting show up. Self-described as a regent-monarch level player, I suspect he's one who is reaching the steep part of the learning curve, if you know what I mean...

Anyhooo... if we decide we want another player, I've got him in mind.

Of course... if we wanted to keep the conquest of Netherlands/Byzantium/Carthage/Spain/England to ourselves.... :D

I would say we can get by on four, but I have no problem with adding a fifth.

Anyone else have any thoughts on it?

Concur with Sesn.

It may be late in the game to add another, but these seem to flow best with at least 4. If someone drops out it could be ugly. I don't know about you but I have a couple week vacation coming up in July. I would have no problem adding a 5th. Althought scotch is better than Jack Daniels. Go ahead Scoutsout and invite another. If Butz ever wants back in, we'll have six.

I do end up changing a couple builds to Sipahi. Everything else looks pretty good.

IT – Saltpeter deal comes up, we said not to extend it, right? England drops a sinlge vet horse off near Haarlem.

1380 ad (1) – Shell the swiss merc’s in Utrecht down to red, but one still takes our sipahi down to red. Not enough troops to take it this turn.

IT – Medicine comes in, best we can do on Elec is ten turns.

1385 ad (2) – Utrecht falls with a little offshore help from the frigates.

1390 ad (3) – Harrlem falls the same way. I’d never realized the boats could be effective like that…. The Hague falls due to the stubbornness of the sipahi army (lost 9 hp).

1395 ad (4) – Reposition some troops, bring in some reinforcements. Rush a couple workers in starvation efforts.

1400 ad (5) – Newton’s comes in. Start shake’s as prebuild for ToE. Army takes Holwerd.

1405 ad (6) – Maastricht falls to sipahi siege. Groningen falls to our army. Capitol jumps to Tillburg, on a northern island. When Arnhem falls next turn, They will be left with 3 small island cities.

1410 ad (7) – Our path is blocked by units from Carthage and Portugal. I don’t think I’ll be able to take it.

IT – Carthage signs peace with the Dutch, we can now take Arnhem.

1415 ad (8) – Arnhem does indeed fall.

1420 ad (9) – Pretty quiet turn. I have no desire to go island hopping for three tundra towns.

1425 ad (10) – Delft deposes back to the Dutch? :hmm: Send troops to reclaim our people.

Recap: Dutch are toast. I was starting to assemble troops in Maastricht and the galleys to the east of our two main islands. Suggest the English would be an easy mark next. Didn’t make any deals so our options would be open, but we may want to pursue some more gpt deals. Electricity due in 1.

>>>SAVE<<<

So, Willie is sailing in wooden shoes to the Arctic, eh?

Well done, Sesn.

And yeah, frigates are floating cannons if you have enough of them. So, build more!!!

Aw dangit. I hadn't noticed there was an Arnhem in this game... dang, that would have been so stylish to take it with paratroopers, don't you think Bede? :D

:wavey: Hi there, all

Thanks to Scout for suggesting me as a late-game rep! Coming into a game already laden with Sipahi armies and burnt-out husks of conquered civilizations is not something I'm used to

The only thing I need to do is sort out a 1.15 version of Conquests... I hadn't even noticed it was that version until I tried to load the save. Hopefully I can sort that out quickly, and then be back to post my readiness soon!

Welcome aboard, Tallanas. :wavey:

Tallanas,

WELCOME. If you can get 1.15 going, we should have you play after me.
If not,then after Scoutsout.

I had the same problem with 1.15. Here's how I did it"
1. move .../conquests to .../conquests,v1.22
2. instead 1.15
3. rename .../conquests to .../conquests,v1.15
4. now I just go to the directory of the conquests version I want and double click on the exe

The only problem with this approach is 1.22 needs to be reinstalled later as Editor is broken.

Again welcome.

PF

I'll echo my conquering brothers and say welcome aboard Tallanas.

What PF said is essentially what I did to get a dual install, though I didn't know that the editor was broken (never used it). Brother Bede has another way: something about the add/remove program list that's a bit more of a hassle, but takes far less space. I'll let him elaborate if you're more interested in his approach.

I'll be back as soon as I've battered my PC into submission :)

Here's a thread on running 1.15b and 1.22f on the same machine if you want other ideas.

How I did it:

1) Copied the conquests directory to a backup location
2) Renamed \conquests to \conquests122
3) Installed the 1.22 patch to the conquest version in \conquests122
4) Moved the backup copy of \conquests to its original location, and renamed it \conquests115
5) Made 2 shortcuts on my desktop, one to each executable.

I believe Bede is doing it in a manner that conserves hard drive space better than my method. There are actually only a handful of files that are different... PM Bede if hard drive space is an issue, my method needs about half a gig...

Bede's method, if you're interested, Tallanas:

Bede said:
1.22 is fine with me.

For any body who hasn't built a dual install yet:
Depending in space and hard drive speed, you might want to consider just swapping installs rather than copying the whole Conquests directory tree.

Process: upgrade to 1.22 as normal. When finished with 1.22 use the Windows Control Panel Add/Remove Programs on the 1.22 install. This removes the .exe and the added text files supporting 1.22. Then run the 1.15 upgrade as normal. When finished with 1.15 just run the 1.22 upgrade as normal.

You have to do it every time you swap games, but since that is a temporary situation...

I had to go this way as my gaming machine doesn't have enough HDD to hold two full Conquests directories.

Bede's method worked beautifully :)

I am now 1.15 enabled, which is a relief, as I was actually struggling for space using the dual install method! Somehow I've filled 40 gig of hdd, and have no idea how... :mischief:

Subscribing... :)

Then I guess we can slot you in next, after PF.

Unless someone has an objection?

Tallanas, since you're ready and without an order change I would be due up on two succession games, how about playing now? Just post a note that you "got it", play a round of 10 turns, and then post the save.
