In my opinion Ethiopia should have not even been considered when compared to Nubia, apperently im on the minority, but i want to no fo sho. Explian why you answered what you answered, because im at a lose right now on how you pass up Nubia for Ethiopia

Definitely Ethiopia, but I would have preferred Menelik II as their leader.

Ethiopia fought off a modern Italian army and kept their independence when every other territory in Africa became a colony. They're more recognizable than Nubia.

I would choose Ethiopia, because IMO Nubia is too similar to Egypt. Ethiopia represents East Africa too, and plus, it's still here.

if u can call that army and army

I would appreciate if you typed coherently so I could understand your posts. Thanks.

Oh, for crying out loud-- another one of these threads? Ethiopia got in, Nubia didn't. Let's move on.

I really enjoy the inclusion of Ethiopia for a few reasons.
1) Ethiopia has a long and interweaving history with the Middle East and Europe. This is accentuated especially by the Ethiopian adoption of Christian and Jewish religious practices.
2) Ethiopia was the only area of Africa that effectively resisted colonization.
3) Ethiopia fills out a formerly barrer portion of East Africa for Earth maps.

I don't necessarily think they are "better" then the Nubians but I happy to see their inclusion over ANOTHER Europeon civ.

what r u talking about??

that italian "army" was a peice of crap, it was more like a bunch of unhappy people who got some guns.

I think he wants you to type in real English. You know, like are instead of "r" and you instead of "u". It's easier to understand and I agree with him, by the way.

Second, I realise the Italian army was crappy, but Ethiopia was still able to hold them off for a surprisingly long time. As the only African civ to resist European imperialism it deserves inclusion, in my opinion.

It might also qualify as the only civilization to accept Judaism besides Israel.

Nubia is worthy, but not nearly as worthy as Ethiopia, IMO.

Ethiopia:
  • the only country in the world to resist European colonization. Eat it, China, India, Japan...
  • founded its own Christian church in 330 AD, roughly the same time as Constantine in Rome. Take that, Europe.
  • The conquests into Yemen brought Christian thought to Arabia, ultimately inspiring the Prophet Muhammed to create Islam
  • One of few Jewish states in antiquity.
  • Home of the Ark of the Covernant
  • One of their leaders considered the Messiah today by about a million people
  • An incredible number of wars with the Ottoman Empire.

Mostly, I'm just sick of the idea that no African civilization ever made it out of the bronze age, or didn't have written literature, or intricate religious structure. The two big exceptions (aside from North African civilization and Egypt), are Mali and Ethiopia. Nubia is worthy, but there's already enough classical civilizations, IMO.

Zara Yaqob was a great choice. The only two that would be better would be Ezana or Hallie Selassie.

Nubia = Upper Egypt. They even ruled all of Egypt for a while as Pharaohs. Therefore, my view is that if you want Nubia, add a Nubian leader as a third for Egypt. If you want to add a new civ, add Ethiopia, because it is distinct as well as notable.

the only country in the world to resist European colonization. Eat it, China, India, Japan...

Japan was never a colony. Although it is debatable if it is an American colony or puppet state, but that wouldn't make it European colonization. (Unless you consider the US European.)

I'm a fan of Ethiopia, but the claim that they control the Ark of the Covenant is extremely doubtful.

I absolutely love how Ethiopia is set up in the game.

The UB represents the old days: Jewish period etc.
The UU represents that Ethiopia could hold back the Europeans
The leader represents the time where Ethiopia was a little Christian ship amongst many Muslims and they fought them..and won.

Ethiopia should have been in the original pack, for sure.

Ethiopia:
modern state
very old religious institution--unique branch of Christianity,
influential in history, mentioned in several holy books since classical times
first domestication of coffee (yum)
settlements go back to 2000 BC
defeated a colonial power at least once.
long line of strong leadership

Nubia:
pre-classical society
conquered most of the nile, including Egypt for a while
settlements go back to 4000BC
major trade routes--contemporary with Egypt and Rome
weakened by Ethiopia and conquered by the Arabs
not independent again until the 20th C.
