European NES (My final attempt)

the last decade was a very turbolent one , many rulers had died , and power had shifted from old tired hands to a complete new generation of young enthusiastic men , one of these men was Guntram.
Guntram was a very dedicated christian , and his Grandmother (Saint Clotild) had been an great influence in his life so he planned to buildt a great cathedral in honor to her , and he allso planned to conquer and convert any person within his (army's)reach.

the Kingdom of Franks has allso started to expand our territory so that we might convert many of our barbaric heathen neighbours to the word of our lord Jesus , i and my men would greatly appreciate if you would send us a blessing for that task too.

-King Guntram

Hey Feanor...You're not catholic are ya?You'd be converting your neighbors to your saints;)And the holy mother Mary I believe

I just want to clear up a big misconception. Honestly, I wanted to keep this NES full of surprises, but I'm starting to get a bit annoyed.

NO

The borders of this world do not stop at the edge of the map. Is it so hard to assume that in a few hundred years, the map will become bigger? Is it too difficult to comprehend that a few hundred years later the map will be expanded to include Africa as well? And then the Americas? And eventually the whole world?

Just because the focus is on Europe, doesn't mean the rest of the world doesn't and won't exist. This has gotten pretty annoying.

Orders Needed From

Plexus (Andorra)
Finnmaster (Estonia)
Volum (Finland)

Will update with 2/3.

It's been like 4 days since last update...Just make their orders up for them...I hate waiting on just a few players.

I'll update later today when I have the time. As of right now, this will stay on civfanatics. If and when the pictures become available on PlanetNES, I will consider transferring the mod there.

I being born this turn?

I kind of messed up. Your Predecessor was born this turn. You were probably born at around the same time too. You'll gain control of either:

A) A small kingdom in 620 A.D. (6 turns)

B) A large kingdom in 640 A.D. (8 turns)

The updates go by 10 years right?

King Juhan had been a passive leader for the first couble of decades he had been running the country. But as time passed by, he started to realize that by celebrating all night and day with their new Russian friends, the Estonians would soon run out of money. So, king Juhan decided that it was time for some economical reformations. He also decided that he would not want to become known as the king who accomplished absolutely nothing during his reign, so he started a Great Wonder in Tallinn.

Estonia ORDERS:
Expand along the Baltic Sea (should be FAST with the HORSEMEN that I should've got several updates ago ;)).
Grow economy by trading furs with barbarians.
By the way, how long will that wonder of mine take to accomplish?

King Matti was standing on a hill overlooking the Cathedral, this must be the one of the most beautiful God has ever seen he thought, his father Saint Volum was being carried in to the almost finished cathedral where he would stay until the world disapeared.
He promised himself that he would his fathers last wish, to make Finland one of the greatest nations in the world. He could still hear his fathers last words running trough his mind, "make me proud"
He got on his horse and escorted by 2 royal knights he rode home to the palace.

Orders:

Keep expanding

Europe, 570, A.D.

The Northumberland-Norwegian War

Trouble in NorthEastern Europe! Hungry for more land, and worried of Anglo-Scottish activity, Alfred III rushes with his army Southward into the Anglo-Saxon countryside. All 2500 men march South to encounter the armies of the barbarian Anglo Saxons. The Scottish, to the North, are powerless to stop them. The Pope had recently ordered a crusade against the Saxons, and any aid to them would be equal to treason of one's faith. Seeing their situation, the Saxons quickly asked for help from Warlord Ragnar Savag the Ironfist, a fellow pagan from cold lands to the Northeast.

Headed by King Cerdic of Wessex, one of the 9 Anglo-Saxon kingdoms, the party arrives in Oslo around 561 A.D. Sympathetic to their cause, Savag quickly orders a great force to be sent to Britian as soon as boats are acquiered. The Saxons pledge 5 boats to transport Savag's army, but it's not enough. Fortunatly, the Norwegians had recently captured 10 Danish Vessels. Instead of using them to invade Denmark as planned, the Norwegians are forced to use all 15 boats for the assault on Britian. So with 3500 troops, in 562 A.D., Ragnar Savag landed on Southeast Britian, just as Alfred III crossed the Saxon-Northumberlandese border.

The battle of Hadrian

As soon as the Saxons saw the oncoming Northumberlandese army, they quickly manned the fortifications and walls that were left there by the Romans many decades ago. Still, the Saxons are too few and too divided to offer any real resistance. The brilliant strategist, Alfred III manages to take the wall with practically no casualties. For the next fortnight, Northumberlandese armies pierced through Saxon lands, subjects to many raids. However the worst was yet to come. For in 562 A.D., they finally met with the forces of Ragnar Savag the ironfist.

The Battle of Wessex

With auxillary troops of 500 from Wessex, Savag's army numbered 4000, whereas Alfred III's was merely 2500. One of the greater battles in European History soon ensued. Seeing his disadvantage, Alfred, the historian, attempted to use a strategy similar to the one used by Alexander the Great, 1000 years ago. He made a weak centre, and strong wings, and then rushed towards the enemy. Savag, not used to organized battles, rushed towards Alfred III with all his forces. Soon, the Northumberlandese centre was merely 500 dead bodies. However, Alfred III had succeeded in at least starting off his strategy. The Norwegians found the enemy on both their right and left. Savag could've easily pulled off a victory, but after a few moments, 3 of his 5 generals were killed. Disorganized, he watched in dismay as mere chaos ensued. Not to say that Alfred III was any better off. Though they were fighting a disorginized enemy, the enemy was still much larger. Alfred III hastily ordered a retreat, as did Savag. When the dust settled, both sides had lost 500 men. Heavy fighting ensued for the next 7 years, and the political landscape of Britian significantly changed. Sometimes the Saxons would completely repel the Northumberlandese and even enter Northumberland. Other times, the Northumberlandese would completely destroy the Saxon-Kingdoms. However, by 570 A.D., the situation seemed to be heading toward a final showdown between Savag's 3000 men, and Alfred's 1500 followers.

The rest of Europe, 570, A.D.

In Byzantium, Justinian quickly sets out fo make his mark in Byzantine history. The Byzantine Cataphracts make heavy expansion in the Anatolian peninsula. So much land is annexed that it actually puts a strain on the Byzantine economy (Don't worry guys, if Naervod does his job right, you won't be envious of Byzantium for long). The recent programs started by Justinian to increase it are nullified due to the new lands. But with Byzantine territory nearly doubled, come more responsibilities. Constantinople now had contact with the empires of Sassanid Persia, and directly to the East, Armenia. From a MUCH farther East land, a mysterious ensemble arrives later that year as well.

Also of note, the Antipope alliance is made between Norway and Byzantium. Since the Byzantines and Norwegians are so far away from each other, it's pretty questionable whether much will come of it for the time being.

The new German King, Heinrich, sends out invitations to all Germanic people's to join the Kingdom of Germany. The responses are mixed. Some politely refuse, others laugh, and some don't answer at all. Yet many small tribes throughout Northern Europe listened, and Germany expands in key areas.

More importantly however, Heinrich's merchants, who he had sent out throughout Europe to stimulate trade, not only increased the economy, but met many new kingdoms along the way! Germany now has contact with the Franks, and Hungarians.

In Russia, the Isolated Slavs slowly begin to build up a great empire. A large marketplace is built in Moscow, while the Rus begin to quickly expand Northwest. By 570 A.D., they have established a direct border with Estonia. They can now, once their economy is increased, establish a trade route with the Estonians.

In the Visigoth lands, the Visigoths are united under one ruler, Almarich II. He quickly upgrades his nations army and increases it, while gaining much land in Iberia. However, his economy is now nearly completely destroyed.

In France, Guntram quickly realizes that all of his predecessors had managed to build great buildings during their rule. So he starts St. Clotilda's bassillica in Orléans to honor his Grandmother. However a problem is encountered. Orleans is still a town, and the people are revolting. No progress is made. The overcrowded and unhappy Orleans peasentry demand that Orleands be upgraded into a city (2 economy levels). Speaking of the economy, it's decreased by 2 once Burgundian swordsmen are trained (You can't increae economy and troops in the same turn Feanor). Also of note, the Franks now have diplomatic contact with Germany.

And in Andorra, St. Guillem's Cathedral is continued. Besides that, not too much is going on. The economy becomes ever better, and relations are established with an organized kingdom of Visigoths to the South.

In Estonia, a Great Wonder is started. Nobody is sure what it is, but peasents work diligantly at making "something" nontheless. Horsemen are mysteriously added into the Estonian army, which quickly gains new lands along the Baltic sea. The economy is increased due to trading between the Slavs all around them. Speaking of which, Russia now shares a direct border with Estonia.

And in Finland, the Royal Knights continue to gain much territory. This time, their focus is turned to the North, where they ecnounter Nordic people's who worship Pagan deities. Pope Pegalius asks for Maati to convert them. He is greatly pleased with the recent completion of St. Volum's Cathedral, a splendid building rounding off old-town Helsinski.

Elsewhere, Charles, King of the Mediterranean Kingdom dies. He is replaced by his son Karl. King Karl uses the Mediterranean Kingdom's navy to expand to Sicily. The Pope had recently given him permission to expand into Italy.

Diplomacy

From Emperor Khorsau I of the Sassanids
To Emperor Justinian of the Byzantin Empire

Greetings oh powerful ruler of the Romans. We have had experience with your like throughout our long history, and would rather that this turn out differently than before. However your Eastward expansion worries us. We kindly ask you to refrain from expanding any further then Eastern Anatolia. If your soldiers put one foot into Mesopotamia, we shall destroy you.

From Diplomat Soo
To Emperor Justinian of the Byzantine Empire

I come from a distant land. We have heard rumors of your greatness and wish to inquire about the possibility of a trade deal.

From Lord Vazgen of Armenia
To Emperor Justinian of the Byzantines

You are much stronger than us, and we are in need of a mighty protector. We would be more than honored to join your great nation! If the price is right...

From Pope Pegalius
To Emperor Justinian of the Byzantines

You fool! An antipope alliance? That is it! We will convert the Slavs in the Balkans to Catholicism and have them attack you untill Constantinople is nothing but a pile of rocks and rubble!

From King Alan of Hungary
To Heinrich of Germany

We aren't too interested in you, as our focus lies primarily in SouthEastern European. We do however, hope for good-natured cooperation between our two peoples.

From Pope Pegalius
To Guntram

Excellent! Seeing that you weren't Childebert's son, I was a bit worried you might stray off his path. Howver all my worries have been put to rest. I send you the blessing for your expansions and hope it meets nothing but success. Also, I'd recommend you upgrade Orleans into a city so that St. Clotilda's bassilica can be completed.

From Pope Pegalis
To Finland

We hear you have encountered pagans to the North. We are sure you know what you must do.
