its already discussed before BNW, i believe, but now with the zoo building already exist, i think we can start a new discussion.
So what if there is one exotic animal for each kind of terrain. They will generate 2 add tourism on the tile and 1 tourism for each zoo the civ and 'friendshipped' civ have.
Some of the animals would be:
giant panda on jungle,
jaguar on jungle hill
komodo dragon on 3tile or less island
mtenda lion on plains
tiger on forrested hill
peacock on grassland
grizzly bear on tundra
penguin monarch on snow
king cobra on hill
green sea turtle on coast

ideas?

what if those animals were collected by Explorers (theres a cool Explorer unit in the scramble for africa scenario) just like artifacts are collected by Archaeologists, and transported to Zoos. Animals generate +1 tourism and +1 happiness (in place of culture). Zoo has two animal slots, if you bring there animals from different continents you get theming bonus.
say
Zoo with 1 lynx: +1 happiness, +1 tourism
Zoo with 2 lynxes: +2 happiness, +2 tourism
Zoo with a lynx and a bear: +3 happiness, +3 tourism (+1/1 from theming bonus for different animals)
Zoo with a bear and a penguin: +4 happiness, +4 tourism (+2/2 from theming bonus for different animals/different continents)

or maybe they should provide not tourism but science (+2 or +3?)
islands should be counted as different continents, so there will be more inscentive to explore ocean in the renaissance era to get those kiwis and platypuses :)

good idea that would expand the tourism on the game, maybe they could make this one on a DLC,

How about making them quite rare and dependant on the terrain type so that if you cut down that jungle or farm that grassland the animal can become extinct? The could pose a quandary esp. in the early game, when tiles are few and precious.

yes, it should be rare and prone. I imagine that the tile can be improved with trading post, but it will be goes to endangered state, -1 tourism, or we can put a camp on it, giving 1 beaker.
But if the tile is pillaged by an enemy, it will goes extinct, and give one time tourism boost to the pillager for every colloseum and zoo.
Pillaging an animal tile will cause warmonger hate and if done after united nations created will cut 1 delegates.
We can also puts universal wildlife funds in the world congress, adding economic advantage for your exotic animal tiles.

I don't think that such resources/animals can have big economical value.
Actually, human hunters caused extiontion of big part of it in paleolithic era.

We just need good use of resources, that we already have: deer, cattle, ivory.
I think game need monopoly based on it, and some buildings (like zoo) need to be have some bonus effect from that resources
