It looks like we've just gotten a glimpse at the lineup of civs for vanilla and possibly the initial DLC. You know what that means? That's right, it's already time to talk about what civs should/will be in the expansions!

My thoughts: if they don't include a Southeast Asian (Burma? Vietnam?) and/or native North American (Sioux? Pueblo?) civ in the initial round, they certainly will in the first expansion. Likewise with the Ottomans, Persia, and Mongolia, whose inclusion in the leak is being debated. Some other series regulars (that is, civs that were in more than one game) not included in the leak are Mesopotamian civs, Scandinavian civs (assuming E1 isn't one of them), the Netherlands and Portugal (likewise), Byzantium, Iroquois, Zulu, Maya, Korea, the Inca, the Celts, Ethiopia, the Maya, and Carthage.

So, what else is on the table?

In terms of civs that haven't been included in the game yet, we've got: Khazaria, Israel, Tibet and Armenia (potential political problems aside), Norway, the Timurids, Canada and Australia, the Philippines, Mexico, Argentina, the Mapuche, the Cherokee, a Pacific Northwest Amerindian culture, Madagascar, Vietnam, Burma/Pagan, Zimbabwe, Kilwa, the Mughals, the Nabateans, Italy, the Zapotecs, the Olmec, etc.

There's a lot of potentials haha, and that's not including the regulars.

-Want a Jewish civ without the political problems of Israel? Ethiopia led by Gudit! Menelik and Ezana would also be good choices for Ethiopia.
-For additional Arican civs with female leaders (alas, poor Nzinga), Ashanti with Yaa Asantewaa, Madagascar with Ranavalona, and the Berbers with Kahina.
-I'd love to see the Celts and Polynesia split up so that we could get Ireland (Brian Boru?) and the Maori (Te Wherowhero?) in their own right.
-Burma and Vietnam would make a great Southeast Asian duo. Bayinnaung and Trieu Thi Trinh?
-For an Indian spinoff I'd love to see the Tamil (under Rajendra or Rajaraja Chola) in their own right.
-My favored North American native civ would be the Pueblo, but I'd also be totally down with Cherokee, Sioux, a northwestern one (Haida? Tlingit? Chinook?), Mississippians...
-I assume they'll add the Inca back in before adding in another South American civ, but Mapuche and Argentina would both be cool. Lautaro and Evita! Or San Martin I guess, but c'mon.
-Italy and Mexico are in a similar predicament: they'd both be really cool, but they're both on top of civs that already exist.
-Australia, or aboriginals? The eternal question.
-May or may not be in expansions, but I'd love to see Persia go in a more Sassanid and/or Safavid direction with Shapur or Khosrau or Abbas instead of just being confined to the Achaemenids.
-Less likely African civ: the Fulani/Sokoto led by Usman dan Fodio?
-Less likely American civ: Haiti led by Toussaint Louverture?

Babylon and Hammurabi.

Byzantine Empire.
