About Muslims celebrating...it was mentioned in one of the comments articles i think, not as outright fact but as "We heard rumours of...". Obviously theres doubt, but there's no smoke without fire.
Be cautious with this though. The fact is that we know there have been few radicals feeling happy about the 911 when it occured in NYC and one may suppose this would be logically true also for London. However, I'm really far to think that this would be so obvious. Check out the Madrid bombings, no bearbed guy in Gaza has shot its rifle to celebrate them. Since the September 11th, the context has changed. Even among radicals, bombings such as the one in London appear more and more as pointless.

No, but that doesn't mean they aren't trying to sell papers.

It wasn't a front page headline screaming that Muslims were celebrating. It was just a columnist who briefly mentioned it.

No, but The Times is hardly a smutty right wing tabloid is it?

It's not above sensationalism when it needs to make use of it either though. I'm wary of any paper that reports rumours about such serious topics for two reasons. Firstly since Hilsborough I lost a lot of faith in the press, secondly since begining to read Private Eye I've lost the rest of that faith too.

Rumours about celebs I can just about stomach, rumours that can have a really bad affect on people's perceptions I find immature. The fact that they tuck it away is no justification.

The bombings which occured in London look a lot like those Paris has faced in 1995... except that in the case of London it was all bombings in one day and not spread all over a year as it used to be with Paris. I wouldn't be surprised if the responsibles of that attack are North Africans, possibly Algerian or Morroccan. It looks that the main terrorist networks which are surviving in Europe are originary from Maghreeb. However, that's just a wild guess of course.

I remember that...I was in Paris in the summer of 1995!

As i said, it wasn't sensationalising. A single independent columnist who occassionally writes for the paper mentioned that it was rumoured Muslims were celebrating in Luton.

I hear they were celebrating in the Mosques of East London...

I would celebrate as they get deported.

(extremists, that is)

.

As i said, it wasn't sensationalising.

I don't care what it was doing, papers shouldn't publish unprovable rumours liable to cause upset over these kinds of sensitive issues. Hearsay is not what I want from a newspaper.

Sure, but that doesn't stop me from believing that such a piece is total tripe and dangerous.

"Welcome to our world" - Russian diplomat quoted on July 7th 2005.

My heart goes out to the victims and their families. Its a pity that GB has to learn things the hard way. Let hope it will be the last time.

What a callous, harsh and unthoughtful statement from a so-called diplomat ... he should have been recalled from England ... and not sacked, but restationed to wherever the most boringly, tedious diplomatic job the Russian public service has ... preferably a dusty archive somewhere where there is not people contact ...

We are learning nothing new, Gelion. We have seen terrorism in the UK many times before...

I think the Russian diplomat was taken out of context...However, I find
it odd that so many people think Britain has never been attacked before.

Just take a glance at our 20th century history....

PS
And for the terrorists...

Interesting... perhaps the Brits should give Russia Zakayev and other terrorist sponsors that killed Russian civlians before escaping to Britain? Perhaps Britain should think about covering terrorists and calling them separatists and rebels or even freedom fighters (through media)? Perhaps after the bombings Britain should think about its policies and stop the policy of double standarts?
Perhaps.... but people do not get what they want often...

Curt: GREAT pic :D! Show them who you are! :goodjob:

Oh, come on! Pull the other one.
None of the leaders are good guys.

And the commuters are to blame? Any more than innocent Russian civilians are to blame for Putin's mafia activities?

Get a grip, man...

Other people have verified that they read the same article. I would not make it up.
