Hey guys,

Here are the specifications for the computer I am using:

and

Notice how there is very little memory load on the computer. What could be causing the computer to be running so slow?

Fragmentation and virtual memory come to mind. It could also be a runaway indexing service.

Those look like XP buttons, so Im assuming you're running XP. As such, you've got the bare minimum of memory for the OS. Thats more than likely the main reason for it running slow. Even doubling the amount would help immensely.

That could be tough if it's RDRAM, which was pretty popular when that CPU was released.

I thought that was 2,560 mb, not 256mb.... :shake:

Yeah, that's way to low to be trying to run XP, especially after SP2.

We got this computer maybe 4 or so years ago, so its pretty outdated by now.

Yes, I have XP.

The computer came with XP, so what do you mean there is not enough memory?

So the RAM's too low?

It means the manufacturer was trying to cut costs ;)

Yeah, but you'd be surprised at the performance increase you get by going from 256mb to 2048mb. Shouldn't cost you too much to do it too.

www.crucial.com has a wizard you can use. First you select the manufacturer, then the product line, then the model. This will tell you what kind of memory you can use, and generally how many slots you have available. They're also very reasonably priced. So check that out, and if nothing else you can use that to determine what kind of memory you need, and perhaps find it cheaper.

Where can you get MircoXP from?

With the knowhow, could someone delete files from a legit XP install to get to where XPmicro is?

Maybe, but it's doing ms a favour by keeping their software in places that open source is normally preferred.

If it's pirated, how does it help MS?

I'd test it on a friends' computer (or a virtual machine) first.
